Hue touch-ups

Post by Ly Binh Hue »

Just c/p these bits, if you don't mind. :)

Personality & Quirks: Hue is indeed very thoughtful and introspective, as her training has taught her to be. She is always aware of herself, and because of this her movements are steady and deliberate, as if nothing she does is unintentional. Almost endlessly patient and calm, Hue is very hard to fluster, as daily practice in meditation and yoga have taught her to control herself and be aware of her energies. She is the perennial unshakable rock, which can sometimes be annoying: her responses are always cool and smooth, and she rarely gets excited or unsettled. Yet her peace is a happy one, and she is not slow to smile or be kind to others.

She does have the tendency to think too much, and will often unintentionally leave those she is speaking to hanging while she considers her words. Meditation doesn’t require much interaction, and because of this she is more used to having herself as a companion rather than others. Hue loves to meditate outside, on rooftops or on the beach, or even in trees. She loves high places as well as large open areas, and has an affinity for water. Indeed she identifies herself with water, and because of this tries to behave much like it in her mannerisms.

Finally, Hue is very proud to be a member of the Ly family, and strongly believes that the first Sojen came from her lineage. She is determined to excel in her magical abilities and become a powerful Sojen.

Background: Born in the wild and often unforgiving North Lands of the Eastern Empire, Hue learned early on the importance of keeping one's cool, as well as the power of the elements. In a climate prone to storms, forest fires, and other dangerous conditions, Hue quickly taught herself ways to remain calm even in the face of unpredictable danger, and found herself wondering at the awesome power of Nature. But Hue was always a quiet and thoughtful child, spending time staring sightlessly into the distance while others ran and played and shrieked. Sooner than most she began to speak and wonder and pray, and it soon became clear to her family that she was something more than just another little girl. She lived at first in the Vien Ly An province in the trade city of Tuyet Xuan, but it was not long before she chose to become a Sojen and left her family at the age of five to begin her training.

It started first with meditation, though that was hardly where it ended. The life of a Sojen began with hard mental and physical training, for only when one was in tune with oneself could one begin to learn to tune to the spirits. Hue spent days in meditation, focusing deeply and finding her center for several marks a day. It was only when she could remain centered even when a bucket of ice cold water was thrown on her that she began to train further. Spending most of her time in gardens in deep meditation and concentration, Hue found herself growing strong in mind but weak in limb. To counteract this side effect, she began training in martial arts, which she learned very quickly. Martial arts taught her more keenly to be humble (for few things are more humbling than being thrown onto your back), and kept her body toned and healthy despite burns of sitting, standing, and holding various yoga positions. Her days were spent in peace, meditation, and training for several yahren.

It was when she was sixteen that Hue decided to travel to Long Danh and continue her training within the walls of the Forbidden Palace of Dragons, where all the wonders and wisdom of the Temple of Knowledge, Pagoda of Harmony, and Garden of Stones would be open to her. She traveled alone through the Vuong Quyen and the Inner Lands, meditating more than sleeping, ever on the alert for danger. Though the journey was perilous and trying, Hue used the opportunity to train herself further and learn to better listen to Nature's whispers. Upon arriving in the Outer Lands she made her way to Long Danh and the palace, and was allowed to enter its sacred walls to continue her learning.

However, shortly after Hue's arrival, many strange things started happening in Long Danh. Foreigners crashed upon the beaches, Rioja returned from the Western world, and typhoons and earthquakes shook the very base of Long Danh. Rebellion was brewing, and Hue found herself as restless as the seas. Encouraged by her teachers to reach beyond her boundaries, Hue decided to travel to the Elven city of T'aquar and seek more training there, unaware of the recent takeover, and the unrest between Elves and Humans.
