Family Dinner [Sam 27th ET]

Post by Rosalie Marcada »

After the days business was done Rosalie went on to arrange a small dining room at the Embassy. Just dinner for a few intimi. Herself, Ramius and Baron Marcada. Rame could play the chaperonne. He was good at that. To complete the set she also invited Jolanda, sending her but an imperious little note. Madam Crecce apparantly had information she did not and it was time for her to talk.

Rose knew she had to talk to the Baron in private. Once he had agreed to marry her she would still want to know why he was going through with it. Her curiosity was certainly peeked.

Wearing a modest ecru colored dress, with nonetheless the Mouthie flaring out skirt an dashingly low neckline, her hair gathered up with a waterful of curls, Rosalie sailed into the little room, expecting her brother already to be there. There were after all a few details to discuss regarding the Lycos and what would happen next. She had a few ideas brewing in her head.

Ramius was indeed there, decked in full Flag Officer uniform. It was a familiar sight in the Lo Russo home, but here he literally sparkled in his silvers and blues. He stood, sipping some dark liquid from a glass, a scent of fine whiskey coming from it. One more man was present as well, but it was only a waiter, that stood to the side ready to jump if his services were needed. Ramius was deep in thought when his sister entered, but he broke out of reverie and smiled as his eyes beheld her. Taking her entire form in, he nodded approvingly. His sister could look nothing but perfect and tonight she did.

It was a simple arrangement, but it was masterfully done. Rather large round table, covered in white cloth was already set for dinner. An array of eating utensils surrounded the plates, along with several glasses. Single chandelier held five large candles and provided the only illumination to the room. Small cart filled with various bottles stood to the side, the top shelf containing the glasses. It was Rame that spoke first. "Good evening, Rose. An appetizer perhaps?" His eyes went to the cart and waiter readily approached, waiting for her to choose.

Rosalie's heart made a little jump when she saw her brother, so resplendid in his blue and silver dressuniform. He was the most elligable bachelor of the Mouth and he looked it. One day it would give her great pleasure to see the man married, sharing things with a sister she never had. How wonderous if that sister would be Councilor Constanza, the woman she admired for sheer audacity. For now however she simply basked in his amazingly dazzling presence. He represented to her all that was good about World's Mouth. The honor, the daring.. the rugged handsomeness.

"A Roque Red sounds divine," Rosalie smiled as she moved to join her brother. In the past Rose would have cared for nothing but a white Kislovani wine. However after the incident with the riding whip no such beverage had ever passed her lips again and more than once had she told the staff of her displeasure if she found any of it served to her. If she could not ban it from the Embassy or the Mouth, she would at least ban it from her own table.

A simple nod was all the waiter did to acknowledge her request, though he moved to the cart presently and poured a little bit of wine from a fresh bottle and brought it for Rose to sample. Waiting to see her reaction, he was prepared to pour her more if she find it to her liking, or to replace it with something else should it be necessary. It was the 1204, one of the fines vintages and most people would find it more than satisfactory. A bit sweeter than was the norm, it was slightly thicker as well. The smell however was what got most people's attention, as one could almost see the vineyards if one choose to close their eyes.

Ramius waited for her to sample her wine, feeling slightly awkward without his saber upon his hip. It was a formal dinner and that was simply not appropriate. The Condotierre Captain was certain that his sister wanted to make a good impression upon the Baron and he was doing his best to do so. Each button shined in the candle light, his boots such that one could almost see their own reflection in them. His hair mirrored her own, though it was neatly tied by a simple blue ribbon. It was with a smile that he spoke, once the waiter was off to pour her a full glass. "You do look lovely tonight, and it is no wonder the Baron is so struck with you. It does feel slightly strange though, a daughter of Lo Russo being married to a nobility. But, if he s your choice and if he is indeed all that you say, I can only wish you happiness." A slight pause as his face darkened only slightly. "As I am sure father will as well."

Rosalie smiled at her brother, glad for the vote of confidence he gave her. "Rame," she explained, "I do not care for the noble title of the man, but here in the Empire it carries weight. If I want to do well, such a small compromise will give me leverage." What a strange thing to think only of love and hapiness in a marriage. Surely he knew she considered rank, wealth and influence as very important factors. His tiny little scowl when he refered to father wishing her hapiness almost made her smile "Father, as you well now, would happily sacrifice the happiness of either of us if was for a business matter. Then he'd probably convince himself it was for a very good dotting father reason. I do believe he will not be displeased however."

She took a sip of the red. It was not the sweet white she cherised, but it had his own merits. Rosalie was getting used to a different palette. She twirled her goblet for a moment "Rame, can I ask you something about business, before we go for pleasure?"

Rosalie looked up, doing her best not to appear to shrewed, putting on her little innocent sister mask, knowing it would not fool him but it would amuse him, making him perhaps more willing to oblige "It is about the Lycos. Are there any Inquisitors aboard, or any Purificatio force for that matter? It might be.... advantagous for us to perhaps have a liasion of sorts on board. Is there anyway you can arrange that?"

He smiled, albeit weekly when she mentioned their father once more. "I am sure father will approve. It is a very good business decision on your part." he offered no more, knowing his sister. He just wanted her to be happy, and if this was what it took to make her happy, he was fine with that. He would not have placed such concerns first, but he was blessed in that aspect by being in love with a woman of whom his father would approve. A twist of fate or a bit of good luck, he did not care. For now his and Prima's relationship was kept fairly secret, though he did not doubt that his father at least had some suspicions, but it mattered little. Severo would approve of the merging of Constanza and Lo Russo families.

When she mentioned Lycos, his brows arched in slight surprise. "Inquisitors? No, I am afraid not. We do have a priest, but no Purificatio members. Just my Condotierre." He paused and pondered something. "I could perhaps arrange for someone to board the Lycos on Pan's Isle. That mission there is a Purificatio undertaking and I am sure there are at least several Inquisitors there. Now, if only we had some way to contact them safely." So far he did not show that he saw through her mask, but it was not so. "But, why do you ask? What use would you have for such a man? Or men."

Rosalie smiled "Why brother, I do believe that after my talk with Father Bitalli I'd prefer to have at least some Inquisitors at hand." She took a sip of her wine, nodding to the waiter before she continued "I.. I might gain political advancement .. for all of us of course.. if I could offer the help of the dutiful Inquisitors with some internal matters of the Citadel. A few pesky Nether creatures, is all."

She took another sip of her wine as she considered the matter of the Purificatio wiping clean Pan's Isle. It was as she had suspected. What a perfect excuse to gain a colony .. just tell them you are saving the world. Yes, in fact, removing the influence of panlings was something they had attempted here in the Citadel as well if only half heartedly. No doubt the help of the Inquisition would be welcomed.

Rosalie fluttered her eyelashes at Ramius "Do you have anyway at all to contact them safely? I doubt the Pecunia temple would assist you in this moment. Yet I can't believe you would not have some way to contact them, eh?"

He had to shake his head at the way she spoke of danger. It was truly amazing how she believed herself invincible and inviolable. Partly it was his own fault too, seeing how the father and he never allowed her to come to harm. "I don't think pesky Nether creatures are such light concerns. And I think you are aware of that as well. There is little political gain in helping with small matters. This is big and you know it. So, please, don't try to deceive me. I'll help but don't insult my intelligence." There was a smile on his face, but also a certain hardness in his eyes.

He paused to ponder the possibilities and realized that his options have been quite limited. The entire action was planned out quite hastily leaving many gaps and problems that were to be solved on the fly. But, there was a reason to solve it. "There is a way I think. We could send a coded message back to the Mouth via the Pecunia Temple portal. If we use a messenger we could be fairly certain that it arrived safely and the code will ensure its secrecy. Magistrate Carloni can send the message directly to Pan's Isle via a portal from the Mouth. I think that might work."

Ramius showed his teeth and Rosalie sighed. "I'm sorry Rame," she apologized "I did not mean to insult you, you should know that it is just...." She put down her wine with some chagerine, it just wasn't Kislovani white. "... I will not pretend that everything has been dandy here..I've been exposed to many dangers, but it comes with the territory. There have been several times already when I wept bitter, bitter tears. Now, before you go big brother on me.. I accepted this job Rame, and expected no less. Would you have me be the only coward in the family and run into your safe arms each time somebody but peeps?" She arched an eyebrow "We both know I cannot. Pride. Family honor. What would be left of it? So, I amuse myself with pretending it is all in a days work." Her lower lip trembled slightly as she softly begged "Please Rame, don't you be blowing up my shields."

A laugh broke through on her face "If you want though I can make a list of people who have upset me so that you can arrange for a suitable accident to befall them." Now that would be funny "You can start with marshal Ranier, and I have a Kislovani knight somewhere that needs urgent disciplining."

Rosalie nodded at the plan of her brother "That sounds like it was meant to be. Lets do that then. I would want a suitable unit of the Purificatio, no more. We are not about to conquer the Empire. It would be foolishness to unite the forces now that they are so neatly scattered." She kissed her brother on his nose spontanously. "Thank you Ramius, from consul to officer."

Rose broke loose to sit down on one of the chairs, eying the entrace "Was I early or is my dear baron late?"

Rame shook his head. She misunderstood. It could, however, be remedied quite easily. "I did not say I will go big brother on you, Rose." He smiled. "You are my sister and I know you better than to try something like that. It is just that it hurts me when you try to deceive me like that." A sigh as his eyes closed momentarily. "You know that I will be there whenever you need me. And I will try not to be over-protective. All I ask in return is that you don't lie to me." He knew there were and there would be times when his feelings for her overpowered his reason and he rushed to her aid no matter what she said. He did mean what he said. Rosalie was a grown woman now, and even though it was in a Mouthie nature to protect the weaker sex, she now had a bit more freedom. This was her choice and she needed to cope with it. Still, he was always her brother and she need but ask for his aid.

A coach rumbled up the road towards the Embassy, carrying two men of close confidence. Baron Marcada sat in silence, dressed immaculately, despite his broken leg. Dark, matte black trousers, were accompanied by a red coat and fashionably laced white shirt. Opposite him sat a man of much simpler taste. Deacon wore a dull grey suit and a simple white shirt. It was not his job to be pretty, but to make sure the Baron was safe. Muffled voices followed the coach coming to a rather sudden stop. Quite annoying creak of metal upon metal indicated the Embassy gates opening and the coach rumbled through, stopping at the entrance.

Rame smiled at her kiss, remembering their childhood and how truly petite Rosalie was then. Walking to stay beside her, he rested one hand upon her backrest and took another sip of his drink. "Oh, I am sure he will arrive soon. I know I have come quite a bit early. Perhaps we both did?" Something else had his interest though, the mention of people insulting her. "But, you said something about some Marshal? And a Kislovani knight? What was that? Is there something I should know?" His tone may have been jovial, but it still held a certain edge to it.

Rosalie took a quick sip of her wine. I cannot even promise that, sweet brother. I've already lied so much. It ain't pretty, is it? The things I do for love. She gave him an ironic smile "I will try and be honest in my purpose Rame," if not in my words.

Carefully watching the door and her words Rosalie answered Rame's dangerous curiosity with a twist of her lips, allowing her brother to see her more vunerable side. "I made some mistakes Rame, while playing this game, some of them almost came to a bad.. a worse end. Marshall Ranier is intent on getting me in his bed. He was prepared to drug me." It was the truth though not all of it.

The petite lady shook her head "I survived, with some help of your men, but he is a man of power in the city and pretty untouchable." Yet I think Lord Azarin might be able to get rid of him.. now there is a thought.

"I nearly didn't survive my confrontration with Tamaril Angihiril, Kislovani Knight. He and his kind.. they feel superior to humans and they repress them Rame, in a most horrible way, as I learned from an escaped serf. I thought I was having a philosophical debate with a gent.. but he sough to force information out of me." Her eyes darkened with the remembrance of the pain. "It was ... not pleasant... I ..Verducci forced me to accept a full escort every time I go out since that happened." Rosalie rolled her eyes "He's worse than you really."

Rame did not comment upon Ranier's transgression. He merely quirked a brow and listened. After all, he promised not to be an over-protective big brother and he was going to keep his word. It was the second incident that made his eyes flare with anger, as Rose's brother took another sip of whiskey to calm his nerves before replying. His voice was cold and held a dangerous edge to it. "You nearly didn't survive? Did you report the incident to anyone? Or am I to handle the matter personally? I am sure I can find someone who will confront the gent and make sure this Tamaril does not survive that confrontation. Or do you want to handle it yourself?"

It was at that moment that another servant entered and after bowing to Rosalie reported. "Madam Consul, your guest has arrived. He will be here shortly." Indeed he was, the Baron walking awkwardly, supported by Deacon, but with a bright smile upon his lips. "Ah, my dear, it is so good to see you." It was then that his eyes fell upon Rame and his brows moved up. "I am sorry if I am a bit late, but my walk is not as brisk as it was before. Hope you can forgive me." He did not mention anything, waiting for her to introduce him as was proper.

"I reported it to Verducci, who is in charge of my safety. He already told me off, thank you," she hissed. She had actually forbidden her lover to take the matter in his own hands for fear of a Vendetta. She added in her low husky voice that reminded of her childhood disease that nearly saw her die, ruining her voice "There are political considerations which stayed his hand, but your help is welcome." A brother was not a lover, and while Rosalie excelled in mothering Kaspar her big brother was such a hero that he could not ever die.

Upon these words the Baron walked in. She gave Deacon a warm smile. No matter what happened she still remembered fondly how the large brute had taken off his master to safety over the mans protests. Rosalie appreciated loyality.

Then her dark eyes glided to Marcada, observing his behavior towards her. I should be ever so cross with you. Dismissing the spell the first day without telling me, leaving me in painful fear that it would be dispelled any burn. Did you try and make an idiot out of me, or... Rosalie's posture did not betray she knew. " Why, milord, how can I blame you for what you contracted in my defense. I must feel quite embaressed at your broken leg, considering." She was all proper, giving Marcada just the right smile of fondness and distance. "Milord Marcada, allow me to introduce my brother Ramius Lo Russo, Flagofficer of the Condotierre. The Merchant Council was so kind to send him on a little diplomatic mission that allowed him to visit his babysister. Rame, this is Baron Illish Marcada of the Trade Guild, who honored our friendship by hosting a reception for the Western Delegation."

Whether Rame was about to answer Rosalie or not, remained to be seen. There was a nod as the Condotierre plastered a smile upon his face and waited for the introduction. His mind was a buzz of thoughts and ideas, as the young officer pondered possible courses of action. Perhaps father would be able to handle this the best. She mentioned political concerns, and I don't want to ruin her chances here. Yes, father will most likely be able to find a way to punish this Tamaril properly. And most of all discreetly. It was the wise choice, even though he wanted to run this adhiel bastard through with his sword.

Both men smiled as she introduced the other, Ramius even going so far as to bow. It was the Baron who broke the silence first. "Now, now, dear sir. No need for such formalities. You could however come closer and shake my hand." His smile looked genuine and he did offer his hand in earnest manner. There was not much Rame could do, but come closer and shake it. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Baron. And please call me Ramius." The Baron smiled and replied in kind. "Only is you call me Illish." Ramius nodded as the Baron gazed once more towards Rosalie.

"Do you mind if I take a seat immediately? I know it is terribly rude, but I hate inconveniencing Deacon so much." Throughout the exchange Deacon said nothing, merely standing next to the Baron ready to offer his assistance should it be needed. He saw that the table was set for four, but knew that the last place was not for him. He was used to that and had no problems with waiting till they were done. His job had some other benefits and it was well worth it. So, he waited, a rather gruff expression on his face.

"No, no, Illish, please sit," Rosalie hastened to say, sitting down in the seat next to him, allowing Rame to assist her of course.. like a lady does. Her eyes focused for a moment on the empty seat. Madam Crecce was late. Perhaps she considered it fashionable.

"Will you have something to drink Illish? Perhaps some nice Red Roque? I can't abide by Kislovani stuff. They've lost their appeal as far as I'm concerned," she chattered with a smile, gesturing towards the waiter.

"How have you been? I've heard from master Tormson that he did very good business with the Tradeguild," Rosalie offered, taking a sip from her own wine "Councilor Constanza will be pleased no doubt."

"Ah, but perhaps you have been more busy with politics, mm?" Rosalie inquired "I hear the Advisory Council has convened a couple of times to discuss a new Ceasar."

She was of course loath to jump into more personal matters immediately, seeking light conversation first. For the merchant princess this was light conversation.

Helping the Baron to his seat, Deacon moved away, taking up a spot near the window and turning his back to it. Hands clasped behind his back, the man just stood, staring at a particular spot on the far wall, where something seemed to hold his undivided interest. It was an useful trait he acquired over the years, being able to shut his attention off and wait on hour to an end, while Illish had his fun. Later his resolve might waver causing him to perhaps peek through the window and seek some distraction, but for now it was quite fine.

As was expected, Rame helped his sister to her seat and moved to take his own, eyeing the empty seat as well, albeit for just a flicker. Still he said nothing, expecting Rosalie to take care of it. This dinner was hers and he was already warned not to be a big brother that night. Motioning for the waiter to refill his glass, he chose to remain silent for now, observing his sister and her apparently husband-to-be closely.

What Rame made up in silence, Baron Marcada more than made up in words himself. "If you don't mind my dear, I would rather have something stronger for start. It's quite a chilly evening outside and I think I could you something to whet my appetite." Motioning for the waiter, he spoke with a slightly raised voice. "Young man, if you don't mind I think I'll trust your judgment on this. Something that ought to warm me." The waiter nodded and poured him a glass of some dark liquid that had a strong bitter smell. Taking a sip, Marcada nodded approvingly and smiled. "Ah, yes.... Very good."

"Councilor Constanza? My dear, I am pleased with the trade done and I don't treat the other side unfairly. I anticipate my own profit to be somewhere around three thousand gold crowns. Or rather the Trade Guild profit. I think that once Madrigal returns their profit will be somewhere in that vicinity. Quite a lucrative run I would say." He paused, taking another sip of his drink, a slight frown passing his face due to its taste. "And with the speed of that contraption you have there, we can expect to see them back quite soon." It was then that his attention turned towards Rame. "But, I hear you have some Air Frigates that are even faster. Is that true?"

Rame smiled at that, taking a sip of his own before replying. "Yes, quite true. Given a good wind, Lycos could make the way from the Mouth to Citadel in roughly two days. Give or take a tide." Baron's brows were arched, as he pondered the information for a flicker or two. "Two days...... I imagine this Lycos you mention is smaller than Madrigal? Oh, I'm sorry, I assume you saw the Madrigal yourself." Rame's laughter sounded briefly as the man sought to cut the Baron's speech. "It's quite alright. I in fact own a share of the Madrigal's cargo so I am quite aware of its size. So some of those three thousand crowns you mentioned is mine. But, to get back to Lycos, I am afraid you are wrong. Lycos is out flagship and is easily four times as large as Madrigal." A silent Oh was all the reply he got from the Baron.

It took him several flickers to recover, his eyes turning to Rosalie a slight frown settling on his face. "The Caesar? Ah, yes. Well, unfortunately.... or fortunately, depending how you look at it, I am not a part of Advisory Council. They are the ones electing a new Caesar. They are scheduled to gather tomorrow and have their first vote. But, frankly I doubt we shall get a new ruler. Perhaps in a week or so we might. But I doubt it will be sooner."

Rosalie arched an eyebrow as she looked at her brother, a grin spreading on her face. She had not expected him to take to trade. The arguments between Rame and her father were a familiar event in the Lo Russo household. Of course this indicated her brother might have more than just a passing interest in Councilor Constanza, which was good. Rosalie heartily approved both of a potential marriage and her brother's happiness. Funny how you've come around to something that no doubt pleases father.

That Marcada was not part of the Advisory Council surprised her "One would think that they'd take a bit more seriously in the Empire,"she said mildly "Though with the presence of Duke von zu Dort-Billigh I have no doubt they do. He appeared to me a most formidable man." Rosalie was more than aware that the Empire had no Ceasar yet and was unlikely to have one too soon. In fact she was counting on it. She was pleased to hear it confirmed though. A weak imperial government meant they were not organized enough to stop the incursions of the Mouth. Oh, how Magister Carloni had been calculating Rosalie realized. He likely had seized opportunity where it presented itself.

As the first appetizers were served Rosalie took a tentative bite before announcing "I saw your son and daughter yesterday.. " She swallowed and took a sip of her wine as if it was mere light conversation "They left the Divale's openingnight rather hastily. A wise decision probably, since the events that happened later that eve."

The Baron nodded at her observation, pausing for a moment to allow the servants to put a plate before him. "The election process takes some time, that is for sure, but it ensures that the elected person has the support of the Council. In effect the Council rules the Empire, with the Caesar as their representative to the people. Most major decisions are reached through vote, but the Caesar still retains considerable power. Only him can call the muster of the Imperial Army, and ask for each of the member states to send the troops. Of course it is done with the consent of the Council, but the Council itself nominally does not have such a power. He is also the only person able to make agreements with foreign powers and it is his signature that makes those valid. The others can negotiate them, the Council does need to approve it, but without the Caesar's approval it is not valid. A power of veto in a way."

The plates held an odd assortment of food types, carrying a variety of fruits and dried meat. The fruits were not of the sweet variety, as each plate contained a slice of green apple, a few slices of kiwi and a bit of pineapple. The whole assortment was meant to awaken the appetites and to prepare their stomachs for the more substantial food that was sure to follow. The Baron was just slicing a piece of prosciutto in half, when Rosalie mentioned the Divale, causing his knife to screech against the plate. For a flicker he did not move, taking a deep calming breath.

Marcada took the freshly sliced piece of meat into his mouth and chewed it carefully for a flicker or two before replying. "Yes, I heard what happened. Quite dreadful. I hear people were killed." He knew exactly what happened, having heard the entire story from two different sources, but was not about to reveal that. "But, you say you saw my children? I do hope you were not visiting during the whole incident. Were you in any danger at all? There was a fire as well, but all I have is mere rumors. I would love to hear what happened." Being a trader for the good part of one's life prepared people for lying. Marcada was good at that, his face easily taking a look of first concern and then interest in what happened. This would serve his purpose rather well, as he was still trying to see what kind of a woman his future bride was.

Rosalie nodded, interested even though Marcada was only confirming what she had also learned from other sources. Yes, without a Ceasar the Empire was quite helpless. Rosalie looked at the empty chair briefly, feeling chagerined that Madam Crecce was not showing up, wondering why.

Rosalie was an observant lady and she noticed a certain stiffness when she mentioned the Divale, or was it his children. Perhaps both she decided, not sure it was genuine concern for her own person. "I spoke only briefly with them. Sadly I have to confirm that I was present during the fire." Rosalie sighed for a moment, her face taking on a far more vunerable appearance than she had showed her brother earlier when mentioning the incident, "Thank Deus I had my escorts with me. Of course master Crane also offered protection to me and Madam Crecce. He is a very generous kind man. All in all I don't think I was ever in serious danger. We hid behind the bar, like a pair of rogues hiding from a tavernbrawl." Her eyes twinkled a bit at the last, finding that funny in hindsight. Then her eyes darkened again " Despite such good company though, I was very freightened. Coming there had been a misguided choice."

Rosalie arched an eyebrow, unwilling to divulge out right she had been confronted by a daemon "What rumors spread? Oft they are far beside the truth, but I don't know how anyone could come up with anything more fantastical. "

Marcada listened intently to Rosalie's tale, waiting till he had chewed a piece of dried bacon before replying. "Oh, you know how it is, milady. Whenever something happens people talk of it and in each telling the story grows." He took a piece of pineapple into his mouth, this time not waiting with his reply. "Why I have heard that there was a murder prior to all the chaos. Even that the Major Domus was present as well." He heard all that from Hector Anzillo just a mark before as they discussed how that could be used to their advantage.

All the while Ramius listened intently, his eyes mostly remaining on his sister as he watched her for reaction choosing to remain silent. What Marcada said next got the young Condotierre's attention quite easily. "I even hear that Captain Ulder came back from the dead. Quite a gathering it was I hear. Lord Redault's daughter has been said to be the one who killed the waiter with a glass. And I even hear that it was Madam Crecce that started the fire." He shrugged. "But those are only rumors. I'd like to hear what really happened from someone who was present."

Marcada was a remarkably well informed man. Rosalie wondered with all he knew, some of which was news to her such as the pressence of Lady Redault ..The whore. Kit. Did not Lord Azarin call out to her? The possessed one. Poor Lord Redault.... with all that he knew why he didn't know about the deamon? Or perhaps he did know and prefered to find out if she realized it. It was the Imperial Trade Guild, was it not? He may not have a seat on the Advisory Council, but he surely was working with government. She wondered briefly at his source. Was it the Imperial Guards or Crane? Perhaps both.

Rosalie carefully dipped her mouth with a handkerchief before taking another sip of wine, relishing the red wine for a moment. "Well, milord, you cut straight to the meat. There was a murder. Several in fact, though in the choas and with me hinding behind the counter it was difficult to keep track of and if you will excuse me.. a bit surreal." There was that vunerability again, an emotion she had not shown in her brothers presence before when discussing these events. Would it be wise to let on the Western Kingdom was aware of their Nether infestation, or wasn't it? Rosalie pondered this. Whatever may come, the Lycos was arriving. She would have to talk to lord Azarin tomorrow, but really since he was in charge of the Imperial Whites last she saw who could stop her plans?

Rosalie looked into Marcada's eyes and decided in the spur of the moment to be as truthful as the situation allowed. It was not something she usually did and she wondered why the Baron inspired it in her. Perhaps it was a lingering sense of guilt even though she bore no responsibility to the trap Ranier had set up.

"The Lady Redault was possessed," Rosalie spoke frankly, having long since decided what must be the truth, certainly after speaking to Father Bitalli. Nether creatures never came along "She behaved quite unnaturally. Lord Azarin and indeed.. your captain Ulder, if that is who the man is.. fought bravely for her life, struggling not to become under the spell of the succubus. That however was but a sideshow, horrid as that may sound. There was.." Her voice falted for a moment as she closed her eyes, recalling the strange moment when fear and sexual excitement had mixed.. her dark eyes opened abrupty "There was the strangest creature I've ever seen... a big jelly blob... and it took a blind lady that had been entertained by master Crane before. That is why madam Crecce lightened the brandy bottle and threw it. The smoke was inconvenient but it did chase off the creature. Normalcy returned fairly quickly after that."

The Mouthie lady gave a tiny smirk, amusement tugging at her lips "The guards arrived too late of course, like in any good story." She put down her handkerchief, noticing she had crumbled it entirely "You musn't worry," she hastened to say "Father Bitalli has secured the Embassy with wards. I'm sure there are similar experts in the Citadel who can do the same for the rest of the Citadel. In fact.. I would be surprised if Lord Azarin wasn't already taking measures. He seemed very much on top of it." Well, on top of Lady Redault at the very least but Rosalie didn't share that personal observation. Tomorrow the Inquisitors would arrive. At least they would provide substantial protection.

"Milord," Rosalie asked softly "Excuse me for asking such a painful question for I had noticed some distance between yourself and your son. However, I can't help but wonder what your son and daughter were doing in the Divale in the light of what happened later. The Citadel holds such new dangers to me. I am used to the normal dealings of backstabbing politics and the roughness of the Merchant Council, but these magicks take matters to a new and freightening level." Did her voice tremble lightly? Rosalie covered it by taking another big sip of wine.

The waiters politely waited till all three were done with their anti-pasti, each plate carefully removed and placed on the cart, before replacing them with clean ones. The first dish served was pesto in white sauce. The waiter paused beside each of them, waiting for a sign that they indeed wanted a serving, before filling their plate. The pasta itself was of green color, as finely chopped vegetables were mixed with the dough during its creation. The sauce itself was thick and creamy, the flavor of cheese unmistakable within.

Marcada listened intently to Rosalie's recounting, his face quite calm for someone hearing a recounting of such a shocking tale. Then again as a noble he had the entire life to train himself in taking things in stride and keeping his emotions private. "Truthfully I did not believe some parts of what I heard, having hard time accepting that it was indeed Lord Redault's daughter that did the killings. But, hearing it from you I guess there can be no doubt anymore." He took a rather tentative mouthful of the pasta, pausing for a bit before continuing. "Sadly, the entirety of the Citadel can not be protected so easily. It is a city, not a single compound like Terra West. The Citadel proper is indeed protected by powerful wards, some of them quite ancient, from what I hear, but the entire city is simply too big."

He smiled, this time eating with much more gusto, clearly enjoying the meal so far. "But you mentioned a blind lady, did you not? Carried away by some strange creature?" He paused, waiting to see whether it was so. "Do you remember what she looked like? A blond achadhiel perhaps?" He offered no more, waiting to see whether if indeed it Elaine that was taken from Divale. That was the only missing piece of the puzzle that night presented.

There was a slight shrug at the mention of his children, as Marcada took another mouthful before replying. "My children are a bit headstrong as you might have noticed. It was my late wife you see..... She was simply too soft-hearted." He smiled, choosing not to say more about his wife. "I do not know much more at this time what Eisolf and Lucienda were doing at the Divale at the time. As I said I heard only rumors. Eisolf may be a troublemaker, but I seriously doubt he had anything to do with the whole incident." Perhaps his voice betrayed a hint of doubt as he spoke the words, but it could be just a trick of the ear. His smile grew into an encouraging one as the Baron gazed at Rose's eyes. "I can however assure you that Citadel is not usually such a chaotic place. These are troubled times and there was a rather long streak of troubles as of late. But, that will improve. We are all working on it."

Yes, Rosalie was convinced that Marcada had heard it all before. A smile touched her lips, satisified that she was getting good at determining these Citadelian networks. "It is a sad thing for Lord Redault," she readily agreed "He seemed such a nice man. I can only hope that the girl is saved somehow." Something Lord Azarin had been keen to do. He appeared more than knowledgable about daemons upon reflection, or perhaps on magickal energies. A shudder ran over her back but she tried not to show it on her face.

His story about his children rung a false note. Marcada seemed most concerned regarding Eisolf but Rosalie remembered her first impression of Lucinda, who had immediately proven herself a strong opponent. Of course during the course of her marriage to Marcada they would proof to be either relunctant friends or foe. Rosalie sensed it would be largely up to her which it would be. If I want to be a quick widow I am sure Eisolf would be more than willing to help a hand. The question is.. do I want to loose such a valuable contact and influence as my lord husband?. Rosalie smiled and said nothing more about his children, still undecided.

When Marcada gazed into her eyes Rosalie was caught by it, holding it a little longer with her deep dark depths. "The Mouth is more than willing to assist with any help we can offer," Rosalie said sincerely, for already she had ordered help on the way, which she would enlighten the Major Domus about on the morrow. It was motivated utterly by the interests of herself and the Mouth, in that order. That didn't mean it wouldn't also help the Empire however. She decided to say no more on it, instead giving it a personal note "I for one hope that my presence in the Citadel can help to improve the relations between my hometown and the Empire so that we can... grow closer together."

It was a finely played game of wits, both players trying to keep their own cards hidden, while teasing the other one to reveal the ones he or she held. Marcada had years of experience on his sides. Rosalie was a beautiful woman and was as crafty as Hell. It was the Ramius who simply observed that got all the little nuances in their behavior, trying to get the full picture from what little they both revealed. In a good mood to start with the young Condotierre was highly amused, finding the little game quite fun.

The game continued, as the Baron took another mouthful of pesto, chewing thoughtfully, before replying. "Yes, as a trader I can only approve of such a change. I for one would appreciate such closeness, as my experience with the Mouth traders so far has been nothing but positive." The Baron sighed, shrugging apologetically. "Sadly, I can not help as much as I want to. I have some friends in rather high positions and some influence with them, but I am just a trader, not a politician. Politics tend to get in the way of good trade. Your people know they and wisely they are ruled by the merchants. Perhaps that would make the world a better place altogether? If merchants were to rule everywhere? Or perhaps it would simply not be appropriate outside the Mouth."

Rosalie smiled "Certainly all countries would benefit from giving their merchants proper recognition, milord. Is it not the merchants that work to give your country its necessary funds? Without inviting major changes, perhaps we can work on making our nations understand each other better by providing example. Our houses are under lucky stars at the moment, offered an opportunity that does not often occure." She looked at Marcada frankly. It would be up to him to raise the issue of marriage of which he had spoken freely, even without the spell. The latter had surprised her for what ever reason could he have had to maintain the masquerade? However it suited her if it was never mentioned at all. A marriage of convenience between their houses would bring profit whether or not they trusted each other or not. if the truth be known Rosalie felt better for the Baron not to be enspelled. It made her feel less guilty. That was less than professional of her, but still she had to acknowledge that weakness.

Rosalie softly munched on her second course adding "My brother has come specifically to represent my family, milord. Position of women in the Mouth is such that I myself cannot speak of certain matters freely however much I would want to." She smiled at her brother.
