In search of ones self (C 26 ET)

Post by Eyrekra da' Waelkyrige »

Sadly Eyrekra walked down Temple Lane, hoping to find a temple dedicated to the Ice Queen. Hopefully she could find the answers to her questions.

Then once she finished that it would be off to the harbor to see if she could get a ride to the other side. Once on the other side she would go straight to the Imperial Trade Guild, and apply for a job. That was her plan, and she would stick to it unless the Ice Queen had other ideals.

She would check back in to the Burpin' Dragon later to see how Hex was doing, and to talk about the possibility of being trained as a Witch.

All the Gods had Temples or at least altars in Citadel, but not all of them were on the Temple Lane, and the only altar to the Ice Queen was in the Trothgard Embassy up in the Patrician’s Ring. Eyrekra found Mother’s Temple easily enough, the serene building located just down the street from Burpin’ Dragon. Across the lane and badly singed by the fire the previous night sat Temple of Pan, its wide doors open and inviting, a girl dressed in a smudge robe cleaning the wall with a mop, trying to get the soot off. A bit down the lane sat a small temple or rather a building built around a shrine dedicated to Red Warrior, the building lacking the front wall. It gave everyone a clear view of the training room that took up most of the building, several men and women in the process of sparring and engaging in mock combats under watchful eyes of instructors.

Temple of Pecunia was hardly a sight one could miss, the Goddess of Wealth and Commerce quite obviously showing off her best assets, a pair of heavily armed and armored warriors guarding the entrance, the building familiar as the Trothgardian trio had emerged into the Citadel through the portal hidden in its depths. Last, but not the least was the humble and serene Temple of Illuminatus, the doors to it guarded by a young man, dressed in glistening plate armor, his blond head held up proudly, a calm smile gracing the boy’s lips.

Eyrekra was quite impressed by the all the Temples she found on the Temple Lane. She made sure to be respectful of all the Deities, the Temples that represented them.

It was at the Temple of Illuminatus where she would get her answers. Eyrekra had stoped to asks the young man, who was guarding the door if he could direct her to the nearest Temple of the Ice Queen. She did notice the warm smile on his lips. She also noticed his golden hair, as it stood about his head like the mane of a proud young lion, and the glistening of his plate armor. She paused in mid thought, glistening plate armor? Had she walked all night looking for her Temple? I guess the answer to that was yes. She really wanted to get to the Imperial Trade Guild by morning, but that would have to wait. She needed to find the Temple first.

OOC: If I could just beg you not to control NPCs and let me handle replies and stuff, I would be ever so grateful.

Even though it was an evening, Citadel days were much longer that those in Trothgard and with the Citadel resting on a gentle slope leading upwards to the castle at its top, the rays of the sun were still peeking over the western horizon. It was not the rays of the sun that made the young man's armor glisten, as he stood in the shadow, but an inner light that seemed to emanate from his very being, the glow subtle, yet clearly visible in the fading light of the day. He gave her directions and pointed out the safest route to take up to the Embassy, though Patrician's Ring was hardly a dangerous place even in the middle of the night.

It was on her way to the Embassy that the young norse girl was able to witness the tension that gripped the city they have traveled to. The streets were empty and there was hardly a passer by as she moved higher, and only when the houses around her became more opulent and larger, did the traffic increase albeit slightly. Some way forward a mixed group of uniformed men was busy ignoring each other, the blue clad ones looking quite a few notches bellow the white tabarded guards on the quality scale. It was the Blues that stopped Eyrekra and barred her way up into the Patrician's Ring. "Good evening, miss. I am afraid yer in violation of temporary curfew order and that you will have to hand over all your weapons before we can allow you to pass. You can pick them up at the Gaol once the emergency state is over." The man before her was a good foot shorter than tall woman, but backed up by half a dozen of his comrades he was not in the least bit intimidated. They were all armed, though it was a wide variety of weapons they bore, from a short, wickedly curved sword at the speakers hip to a heavy halberd of the large bull of a man hanging near the back.

Eyrekra looked the group of men up, and down. She could not count on any of them being weak. What one did not have in size, and strength, could possibly make up for it in speed, but that was just a guess. She knew one thing she would not give up her weapons, not to any men. Quickly weighing her options, she decided to bluff her way through.

With the coldest stare she could muster she watched the movements of the group of men, as she address the guard in front of her.

"Excuse me sir I have pressing business at the Trothgard Embassy, and if you are not going to escort me there, then I ask you to please step aside."

The man before Eyrekra snorted at her explanation and turned to comment to his comrades with a smirk, when a tall, muscular man in a white tabard from the group of white-clad guards approached. Nodding politely, he gave the blue-clad guards barely a glance, before clicking his heels together and bowing his head at the norse girl. "Good evening, miss. Corporal Townsend of the Imperial Guards. I'll be happy to assing one of my men as your escort." The Blues shifted to allow their leader an unobstructed view of the new arrival, poking each other in the ribs and murmuring. "Stay out of it, pretty boy. She is in violation of a curfew. She hands over her pointy stick and you can have her for yourself. Till she makes it to your side of the city, she answers to City Guard. Remember what happened to Purplies? We already got a riot going on down there. Don't need you stirring things up further."

Eyrekra watched and waited for the small man, dressed in blue, to make a mistake, and give her an opening to attack. She gripped her spear tight as he snorted, then he turned to talk to his friends. This was the opening she was looking for.

She started her attack, when all of a sudden a tall, muscular man, dressed in white, stepped up to introduce himself as Corporal Townsend. She pulled back on her advance, and tried to hide her actions by assume a normal stance. Eyrekra felt a cold chill travel down her spin. She felt that this man calling himself Corporal Townsend may have just saved her from making a big mistake. She had already made enough mistakes with Warrior men tonight.

Eyrekra relaxed her grip on her spear, and gave the Corporal a small polite smile after his polite bow and introduction. Her small smile turned into a large ear to ear grin when she heard that he was willing to assign one of his men to escort her. Yet her grin was short lived as she heard grumblings from the group of guards dressed in blue. The City Guards, the ones dressed in blue, wanted her weapons. Once they got her weapons the City Guards were willing to pass her on to the Imperial Guards, the ones dressed in White, as if she were so much meat.

Eyrekra's rage grew, as did her grip on her spear, and shield. She was now angry, and not hiding her intentions any longer. Mistake or not she took a fighting stance, and waited for the men to decide what they were going to do.

OOC: Consider this thread impassable starting from this moment onward. Please do not start any other threads until we have resolved the crisis here.

Facing half a dozen armed men was a very dangerous course of action no matter how skilled in the use of weapon someone was. It was true that people learned from their own mistakes, but one needed to survive said mistake if he or she was to learn anything, or otherwise the lesson would simply be wasted. Another important thing came with experience as well. Knowledge when to fight and when to accept a minor defeat in order to fight another battle at a later time. A battle which a person could win. A battle where he or she held some kind of advantage over the opponent, be it superior numbers, element of surprise or merely superior training and equipment.

In this particular conflict, odds were stacked heavily against Eyrekra as she held little advantage over the blue clad guards before her, only the longer reach of her spear making her somewhat harder to reach. It took the short bully a flicker or so to notice her fighting stance, and his first reaction was to spread his arms and back off, pushing his man away from the armed woman in a huddle. It was only a temporary withdrawal, followed by a drawing of various weaponry they had upon their persons. The speaker lowered himself into a fighting stance as well, wickedly curved short sword held low, its tip pointing back, while his comrades spread into a semi-circle around Trothgardian girl.

The short bully was about to say something when Townsend raised his hand, palm towards the Blues, turning to Eyrekra with a worried expression, his brows furrowed somewhat. "Milady, I beg of you. Lower your weapon, please and all will be well. I will personally make sure it is returned to you once the curfew is lifted. You have my word." As he spoke, the young Corporal stepped forward, placing himself between Eyrekra and the leader of the Blues, turning himself fully towards the girl and holding out a hand palm up, urging her to hand the weapon over to him.

Eyrekra's rage started to get the better of her, as her blood raced hard through out her body. So hard, in fact, that the beating of her own heart was the only thing she could hear. She held a firm grip on her spear, and shield, as she watched the City Guardsmen fan out around her. Yet her mind had not been taken over completely by rage. Eyrekra watch to see which man, and with which weapon he had, was where. She estimated how many paces each man was from her. Then slowly her ears picked up the voice of Corporal Townsend. She smiled softly at him as he imparted his passionate plea for her to lower her weapon.

She turned slowly in a circle, as she addressed the City Guardsmen, in a loud and clear voice.

"Protectors of the Citadel."

"Like you I am a true warrior." "I have taken my vows, sore my allegiance, and been given a sacred task." "Your task is to guard the city, and all who dwell within." "My task is my burden to carry, and on my word of honor has nothing to do with harming the city or those who dwell within." "I stated earlier that I have pressing business at the Trothgard Embassy, now it looks to be that my pressing business is this grave matter at hand." "I tell you here and now that I have no wish to fight, nor do I wish to give you my weapons." "I only wish to go the way I came." "In peace."

She had timed her words with her action, so that she was once again facing Corporal Townsend. As she turned Eyrekra had re-estimated the number of paces between her and each guardsmen. She knew it would only be a matter of flickers before she would feel the sting of what she hoped would be the flat side or the blunt end of a weapon once she dropped he guard.

Eyrekra smiled a Corporal Townsend. "Thank you." This was all she said as she lowered her shield arm and planted the but end of her spear in the ground, and waited for what was to come next.

Were it any other time, the Blues might have tried to subdue the spear armed girl before them, but that day had brought a change in the rules and they had orders to disarm any person bearing arms in the streets and to kill those that resist. Luckily for the woman before them the presence of Townsend kept them back, though by the time her speech was done, she was completely surrounded. The bully before her held a curved sword in his hand, the man to his left and right armed with a long sword and a spiked mace. To her sides were the big man holding a halberd with a steady grip and opposite him a man with a hatchet. The duo behind her were both armed with sword, though one had a short blade, while the other was a hand and a half or bastard sword.

"Orders are orders, blondie. You can go anywhere you want after you hand over your spear. Heck, I'll even give you an escort like the pretty-boy there, but you have to leave the pointy stick with us." The bully shrugged, causing Townsend to sigh and close his eyes for a moment. "If you do not wish to leave the spear with them, I am sure Sergeant will allow me to keep it safe for you. I could even have it taken to your home or the inn you are staying Only guards are permitted to bear arms on the streets."

Still smiling at Townsend she commented, "According to your rules once I give up my spear, then I must give up my sword, my bow, and my dagger." "So tell me where dose it end?" Lying to the guards Eyrekra tells them, "I am also trained in unarmed combat does that mean that I must also give you my hands, my feet, and my mind?"

Looking at Townsend she states, "Sorry I can not, and will not give up my weapons." "Again I thank you for all you tried to do on my behalf."

"Protectors of the Citadel I wish you peace, and bear you no malice." "I go now to fulfill my task at the Trothgard Embassy."

Eyrekra moved in the direction of the Embassy, her grip on her spear, and shield relaxed, yet firm. She was ready for whatever may come.

Townsend did not move as Eyrekra stepped aside and started walking towards the Patrician's Ring, her way barred by two of blue clad guards, with the sharp tip of the halberd leveled towards her chest, making any attempt of progress likely to end in pain and injury. "We bear you no malice, but you need to hand over your weapons. Those being the spear and sword. You can keep the dagger. And hand and feet. Not sure you still have your mind." This brought a chuckle from his friends before the bully spoke once more. "Last warning, girl. Hand over your weapons or die. I mean it." Laughter died immediately, and faces of men before Eyrekra darkened, the sword wielding man's hand trembling somewhat as he kept his sword pointed at the tall woman.

Eyrekra stared at the big man with the halberd, she could see that he was ready to fight. She could also see that the point of the sword, that the second guard had pointed at her, was shaking a bit.

Great she thought to herself, that all I need is to die at the hands of a scared man. Mother was right. I really need to pick my battles more carefully.

She turned to Townsend and held her spear in the center, out stretched for the Corporal to take, she also slowly pulled her sword from its sheath.

"Could you please see that these get to a Hex da' Bergliin at the Burpin' Dragon, believe me you cant miss her, she has red hair."

"So now do you big brave men feel better, now that the little girl's toys are gone?" This was her taunt as Eyrekra pushed by the two guards, and headed once again to the Trothgard Embassy.

Townsend smiled as Eyrekra handed her weapons to him, nodding at her request. “I shall send someone to the Dragon and you have my word that your weapons will wit for you there. I am sure Sergeant does not need to actually confiscate your weapons as no crime has been committed.” He looked at the lead blue-clad bully who nodded and snorted in agreement. “She can go now that her pointy stick is in the hands of official representatives of the law.” The pair of guards moved out of the way at his nod and she had free passage towards the Patrician’s Ring and Trothgard Embassy.
