A Walk Through Town (Chryil 27th Late TT)

Post by Paige »

Paige wandered away from Thalas Manse, in order to clear her head before returning to the new life awaiting for her. She decided that she would go ahead and trust Ashari, and test these new waters. The thought alone of basically belonging to nobility appealed to the adhiel, more than she ever imagined it would. With the mere thought of being given respect, Paige beamed, for she had never been respected a day in her life. However, the thought of an education had given the woman hope for a bright and promising future. The joy Paige felt was almost enough to plaster a permanent smile to her pretty face.

Walking cautiously down the streets of the city, Paige made her way back towards the docks. The mention of Pier Seventeen echoed loudly in her mind. She knew that she needed to get information about her sister as quickly as she could. Not wanting to draw attention to herself, Paige fastened her cloak tightly to hide her revealing attire and placed the hood over her head. Scanning her surroundings cautiously, the adhiel wondered what dangers lurked in this part of the city and more importantly, what this Michael Crane was like in person.

She hoped that the knightly gentleman from the night before, would be able to gather all of the information she needed and not encounter any harm on the account of her. With a low sigh, Paige found herself standing in front of a building and decided to lean against it in order to rest for a flicker or two. There was no reason for Paige to remain in this part of town for very long, and plus there was more to this city that she wanted to see, especially, the Temple of Pan, for it had always been on her list of places to see. With one final look around, Paige stood up straight and turned the opposite direction of the docks and made her way towards the Temple of Pan.

Even though this part of docks was rather sedate and safe even during the night, at this particular moment in time the guards were out in massive numbers, Paige able to follow two four-men patrols as she leaned against the wall. The Pier 17 itself looked quite crowded, most of the customers coming in groups, and surprisingly comprised of rough looking men, many of them sporting bruises and bandages, as if they have been in a fight or some similar scrape. Many of them kept rubbing their wrists, and none were in a particularly good mood.

Paige liked the fact that no one so much as glanced in her direction. Although, there wasn't any need for the young woman to be secretive, she just didn't want to deal with judging eyes or remarks. With a quick look behind to see if anyone was following her, a satisfied Paige returned her attention to what lie ahead of her, and yet she couldn't help but wonder why there were so many guards out. The longer she walked, the more she wondered what Langredoc was up to at this very moment. Part of her wished that she would run into him on the streets, as the other part of her started to wonder if that would be considered a good thing or not. The adhiel thought about the new life she was about to begin, and in her mind, she listened again to Ashari's words.

Paige was basically going to sign her life away. However, this time, it was by her choice and not by force. This lifestyle seemed like it would benefit her more than anything, and Paige had always dreamed of being educated, as well as getting a leg up in society. The mere thought alone of being regarded as nobility appealed to Paige in a way she never thought that it would. However, it wasn't the high ranking status that appealed to her the most, it was the simple fact that she may finally get to be taken seriously one day. Yet, she knew not what the future would hold and for now, she only hoped for the best.

Where are you Paiyne? Paige asked her invisible sister, hoping that she may spot her twin passing by, but this thought was only given away to false hopes. Paiyne was no where in the midst of all of the hustle and bustle of the streets. Traveling to the Temple of Pan, Paige hoped that she might get a chance to speak with someone and maybe get some leadway as to where Paiyne was, as well as pay her respects to Pan. The temple was a place that the adhiel could remember her parents speaking fondly about and how they insisted each of the sisters travel there one day. Hoping that she would spot what was once known as the Red Rose Guild, Paige continued on her way up the road. She knew that she had to be getting close, as she had been walking for what felt like a few marks.

It was quite a trip from Pier 17 to the Temple of Pan and on her way there, Paige passed quite a number of people and on almost every face in the Outer Ring fear and uneasiness could be read. It lessened as she made her way to the Inner Ring, and nearer to the Temple of Pan the city seemed almost normal, just like any great city. The Temple Lane was true to its name, though not every building upon it was a temple, and one spot did not contain a building at all, but a charred and broken ruin of it. Where once stood the Red Rose Guild, now blackened and broken beams shot up into the sky, children playing hide and seek in the ruins. Temple next to it looked untouched by the flames, Naomi's diligence having served well in cleaning the soot covered walls, and restoring them to their whiteness. The double doors stood open and cold darkness beckoned people to pause within and catch their breath before moving onward.
