Pan's Isle

Government Type:
State

Location:
South of Kislovan, west of Muchislie and the Citadel.

Climate:
Snow is possible, but extemely rare. Rain isn't, though summers are hot and dry -- definite seasons.

Geography:
The inhabitants of Pan's Isle have never concerned themselves over much with the geography of their isle, but a few things are obvious:

The Isle is dominated by a fairly large central lake called Life Source and a smaller more northerly lake, affectionatly called Tel' Kaimelien, or The Dreaming. These two lakes are connected by the river known as Joy's Cascade which flows from Tel' Kaimelien in two directions, south past Tal' Andir Dagnir to Life Source and north to the falls. A second river, Life Blood, runs east from Life Source past Tal' Palantir to the Silverneedle Swamp, where it branches off into several streams and then empties into the ocean. A third river, Harp Song, flows south-east past Tal' Fea Taur and Tal' Rusva Salpua to Rusva Salpua Luth.

On the southern half of the isle the land is dominated by large forested areas and open grasslands. To the North there is a mountainous area where a gateway to the Underground is rumored to exist. On the waters of Life Source are two islands, on the larger of the two lay the remains of what was once a temple city dedicated to Pan. Now only weeds and vines grow there.

Flora and Fauna
In the southern forests and grasslands, several intelligent forest creatures such as the fey, sprites, centaurs, satyrs, nymphs, druids, brownies, and perhaps a few hidden air dragons make their home along with the more typical forest fauna of deer, rabbits, songbirds, etc.

The forest itself is made up of mixed evergreen and deciduous trees, a wide variety of flowers, herbs, shrubberies, and orchards, comprising many groves and vales. Additionally the soil is rich and supports natural vineyards, after all, a favorite passtime of panlings is drinking lots of wine.

Politics
Centaurs now guard this isle and they do not welcome strangers in any portions of the isle except Tal' Rusva Salpua. These equine creatures keep an especially fierce eye towards the only known entrance to the Underground in the Seven Isles; the caves leading to Gulanadur.

Chief Exports
Wine
Herbs (Generally those used in Panling Religious Ceremonies ie narcotics)
Native Art
And a very few well-trained wood elf (only!) scouts only if they are willing to take the test

People
With a population of approximately 5,500 Wood Elves and 1,500 Centaurs, Pan's Isle is by far the least populated of all the isles. Additionally, these 7,000 are spread out over nine permanant settlements in various locations all over the island.

Due to the joyous nature of their religion, the elves of Pan's Isle live in a more communial life style than anywhere else in the known world with different groups within the population helping out with different crops which would allow a group who would run the vinyards, a group who would do orchards, a group who did vegetables, a group that does livestock, and a group that does grains thus leaving plenty of time for their religious activies of alcholoic imbibing and sexual pleasure.

Only the most talented of artists and musicians can live off their work alone, however, as nearly all panlings have a passion for creating and appreciating good music and beautiful art, there is never a shortage whenever two or three gather together.

There are a very few dedicated merchants and specialists sprinkled throughout the settlements.

Rituals and Religion

As Pan is the god of the free love, bards, music, art, and the good things in life it seems appropiate that he would be celebrated in erotic and rambuctious rituals.

Each full moon is greeted with dancing and fanfare which gives the Panlings an excuse to party for several days every fifty-six.

Sex is the ultimate form of worship and is practiced as often as possible to keep their god happy.

Wine and hallucinatory drugs, each with it's own mind altering abilities, are pleasing to Pan who is said to visit with faithful practictioners of his arts in these altered states of mind.

Dates to Remember

History
Not long after Lagnoratius returned to the Citadel to rebuild the kingdom of Seven Isles, a group of woodelves arrived at court to petition the use of a particular large forest covered isle in return for service to the kingdom. The steward granted them this favor.

The immigrants brought with them a new religion, Pan, which would greatly influence the general history of the Seven Isles. The acceptance of the woodelves was formalized by the Oracle when she added Pan to the pantheon of the Seven Isles, as part of the Forces of Light.

In those times, Pan's isle was often described as a paradise of elven bliss. The large temple devoted to Pan was held in a continual state of celebration. Satyrs danced on the meadows; chasing nymphs. Centaurs and other forest creatures flocked to the isle, finding protection with the minor deity. There was food and wine for everybody.

After the Great Battle, the followers of Pan decided that they had remained isolated for far too long. They initiated a mission to spread Pan's religion. They have now spread over the thousands of isles of the Empire, hoping to prevent another occurrence such as the rise of the Forces of Darkness. Pan's Isle has since been abandoned, the temple falling to ruin. Only the centaurs remain to guard what once was Pan's heaven on Tazlure.

Language
Some of the more intelligent forest creatures speak a strange accented Elvish.

About Pan:
Pan is a small deity known as the refined god of fine arts in the Western Kingdom, whereas in the Empire of Seven Isles he is foremost a pastoral god devoted to nature and simple pleasures. This has led to the development of Pan as an ecstasy religion, with worshipers giving themselves over to an abundance of sex, wine, and hallucinatory drugs; all of which is of course frowned upon by the authorities. Many isles have forbidden priests of Pan entrance on account of irresponsible festivals.

Locations of Interest
Tal' Yanna en Pan
Located on the larger of the two islands on the central lake of Life Source, the archeological master piece of Pan's Temple lay in ruins looking as if it were abandoned much longer than a mere ten yaren ago.

Tal' Rusva Salpua

Tal' FeaTaur
Nestled between the banks of Life Source and Harp Song, this second largest wood elf settlement relies mainly on its fishing industry as trade.

Tal' Dae Ruid
Tal’ Dae Ruid located northeast of the sacred pool Chiming and south of two others nearby. Located in the southern part if Pan’s Isle, it is surrounded by the luxurious forest of that end of the isle. This is a quiet community of wood elves who mostly hunt and do a little gardening for a living.

Tal' Palantir
These sloping foothills and their sentries earned this city its name of Tal’ Palantir, or Farwatcher, and provide it with a nearly impenatrable natural defense, since the city is bordered on its other sides by the swift-running river Life’s Blood and the murky depths of the Silverneedle Swamp. Between the hills runs a passageway so narrow that just a handful of talented archers could hold the pass.

Tal' Andir Dagnir

N'e Sama Seere
Located on the western peninsula, this out post is the furtherest from any of the wood elf cities and because of that relies heavily on their contact with the centaurs who roam the foothills and into the northern most forested areas for supplies.

N'e Sama Wing Kemluma

N'e Sama Salkad Alu
Located on the south-eastern lip of Rusva Salpua Luth the wood elves stationed at this outpost guard against unwanted entry into the bay. All excellent sailors, and excellent swimmers, they also serve as a search and rescue team when ships dare the bay entrance without a guide, which the elves of this outpost will willingly provide.

Rusva Salpua Hoopa

Rusva Salpua Luth
This deep water bay is held captive by two small islands that must be navigated to reach Rusva Salpua Hoopa and only the most brave or most fool hearty of the capitians do it alone until they are very familar with it.
