Coup D'etat: Plan B Summary thread 30t of Jygust, Early TT

Post by Michel Carbonneau »

After the happenings of the morning and the meal at his home, Michel went back to the palace to have a meeting with his two most loyal generals. His plan was to be back from Pax during the night, but all kinds of things could come up, which would prevent him from getting back at that time. He had to make sure the plans in Kings Court would move on during his absence though. In any case, more troops would be entering the city during the morning tide. They had to have some orders.

He had been thinking a lot on how to spread the troops around the city. The palace was the most important place. He told the generals that there was going to be a council the next day and he wanted to have a lot of men in the palace. The most important men in the city would all be gathered there at the same time. He had to make sure that the palace was safe. By Michel's estimation there were about a 100 to 200 men within the army that were bribed. They could all be stationed in the palace, but he would have no idea who was bribed and who wasn't. There was no way he was going to find it out in time. So his plan was to at least outnumber them. He was going to place a 1000 guards in and around the palace, clearing out the regular people in the palace for the next day. It would be a heavily secured area.

That left him with another 1000 men for the rest of the city. He would place the stronger units at the gates, wanting strict security over who was coming in and out of the city. Any mercenaries would be stopped at the gates, any mercenaries who were leaving were welcome to leave. He also wanted a strong unit at the docks, securing that area together with the navy. He told the navy commander the same story that he told his generals. Michel wanted the city in lock down because the council would decide who was going to become the next King and they had no idea what kind of trouble that could give. He also told them about the 2500 mercenaries in the city. If the first argument wouldn't persuade them to listen to him, then that would.

He would send another two or three strong units to the Downs, not sending them in there, but controlling the border. That would pretty much take care of the already present men in the City. The 2000 men who would be coming into the city during the morning tide would have to be told where to go as well, but the Commander didn't want his generals, or the navy commander to know about them yet. Only the messenger and him know for now and he wanted to keep it that way. Once they were in Pax, he would send Brytan to Kings Court with the orders, sealed with his Commander insignia. That way he could be sure that no one would know that the extra men were coming and he still had a backup plan if he couldn't make it in time himself.

Once he had told the plan to his generals and the navy commander, giving out his orders where appropriate, he was ready to leave for Pax. It had begun.
Here we are. Born to be kings. We're the princes of the universe. We've come to be the rulers of you all.

Michel's generals were promt for their meeting and took their orders without question. Extra guards would be placed at the gates and other strategic points around the city, including the Avenue of Trade.

Emptying the palace, on the other hand, was not to be an easy task, and he was told that it would be "highly improbable" to get the personel out of there without a full-on attack of the palace being iminent - threat or no threat. Those who were employed by the government and the servants didn't care about the security risks, but it was manageable to maneuver them from particular places within the palace itself. That proved to be the best option, with Michel's forces taking up the entrances/exits as well as the halls surrounding where the Council Meeting would take place the next day.

The Navy, run by a strict man, wasn't quick to join in Michel's cause, but the idea of a new king and keeping said king safe was enough of a reason to keep a strong eye on the harbor. This would be the perfect time for some renegade to try to take over the city - and he would be netherbound before it would be via the harbor! A lock-down was put on the harbor as of late evening tide on the 30th, meaning no boats in.
