Explorations ~ Samheen ~ 27th Morningtide

Gilanor had made sure to get started early just to keep the number of people that might see him cover the distance between his rooms and the library to a minimum. Not that he normally worried about other students and professors seeing him head to the library, just on this occasion he had no intention of staying there long.

Trying to keep his movements casual as he entered the library he wandered through the room checking on their state as he headed for the room where the entrance to the passages lay. If there was no one within the library he intended to slip into the passage way as quickly as possible. Though he certainly hoped he'd be able to spot the mechanism for opening the door from within before he was required to actually close the door with him inside. If he needed additional light within them, then a minor weave of light that he had practised as part of his study of light and shadow, should provide enough illumination for him to see by in the tunnels without announcing his presence to everyone that might also be within them.

The only thing that would draw attention to the student would be his want to be casual. It was the way it usually went for those who tried not to draw attentions.

However, he only drew a stare here and there, and just a smile from others. So, he was noticed, perhaps it was better if he was, that was less supsicious, and in that capacity he succeded.

Inside the passage way, the cantrip did light up the passage way quite nicely, Gilanor now had a nice source of light to work with.

OOC: Sorry had a complete block as to how to approach the explorations.

- - - - - - - - - -

Gilanor had spent time over the last couple of days studying the map the Professor had provided, and its presence even concealed as it was within side the cover of his study text, carried in his pack, was a comfort in case he got turned around. Yet in keeping with his normal careful, even methodical approach to problems and study he careful looked around the walls of the tunnels in which he now stood. As he examined them he looked for any patterns, by which he might recognise this way out in case he needed to quickly get his bearing without consulting the map in this area.

He intended to take his explorations of the tunnels carefully learning their twists in turns in such a exact fashion that he wouldn't need to resort to the use of any map by the time he was done. Doing so meant taking his time and learning every bend, curve and branching. Though this would take time he had promised the Professor he would not rush the task he had left him with. With extending his knowledge of the tunnels each day slowly, he also provided himself time to extend his knowledge and skill of the magical arts. Skills that he might well need to survive whatever dangers might lie within the hiding place the Professor wanted him to seek out within these tunnels.

With the exit to the library behind him he started to head in the direction of the closest exit marked on the map. His awareness still open to the perceptions of the Aether he kept his mind open to the energies of the place, and watched out for any energies or lack thereof that might indicate a trap within the tunnels.

OOC: Hi Jadmai,

Was thinking about this and this thread idea is could be as exciting as watching grass grow. Perhaps I should have handled this just as a mention in a Timejump post that he spent time acquiring a familiarity with the secret tunnels and passages.

Want I want to achieve is that Gilanor acquires a knowledge of the tunnels for the following purposes
1) That he can easily use them to get from place to place in the Guild
2) That the clues that Professor included in the receipe started to make sense.

Covered this with Tristam in the following thread:
Thin on the ground ~ Samheen 24th ~ Tradetide

The receipe is mentioned early in the thread, and once he on covered the map. There was a note on it from the Professor indicating that clues to the location he wants him to investigate is contained in the receipe.

OOC: I'll have a pm for you shortly.

But for right now. Yes, your suggestion is good. Timejump yourself free here, state how much time you spend exploring, and other activities you might engage in.

Give me a summary, and we will go from there.

With so few of the students left in the Guild, and indeed more than a few Masters having departed for the surface as well Gilanor had allowed himself a considerable period of time for his explorations. Indeed the only real time constraint that he on them was how long he was able to maintain the glowing weave that he was using to light his way.

The time would certainly come to delve far into the tunnels finding the locations within them that the Professor had indicated the further clues in the receipe referred to as such. Yet that time was certainly further in the future, for now he sought to become familiar with the tunnels nearest the library. Also in gaining that familiarity he sought to gain an understanding of how well they match the map that the Professor had given him as a guide. Until he knew how precise the map was in respect to relative distance and branching he didn't just want to risk heading off into the depths of the passages with no useable guide to help him out of the place.

The darkness within the tunnels though did also give him inspiration for another weave though he was sure that he would have to do some research in order to assemble it. The light weave he used at present shed light for others as well as himself, what he need was a weave that let him preceive the position of objects around him, and let him see them as if the place was lit without making use of light itself. Or could keeping his perceptions focused on the Aether allow him to accomplish that without a weave at all. He would have to experiment to see if he could distinguish the energies cold energies of stone, from air, from darkness in this place. He'd also have to see if he could pick out other energies easily, or even where the energies of other things might lay shielded.

The more he thought about it the more he could see that he had so much to learn. Yet he could only take it one step at a time, and allow time for further practise in the future. For now the familiarity of the tunnels close to the library came first, and checking the accurate rending of the map in the process of doing so. When he needed a rest from that he would start with seeing how well his perception of Aether energies could allow him to navigate, and identify the nature of his surroundings.
