Duty Calls ~ Samheen 29th

Post by Mairi Armstrong »

Mairi was enjoying the coach ride through the citadel, watching the streets go past and the people bustling to and fro. The bundle was kept safely on her lap, and because the coach ride was bumpy she clutched it into her stomach to stop it jiggling around too much. After all, it might be something valuable. If it had been any other occasion she might have sneaked a look inside, but it wouldn't do to go snooping around on her very first day.

She glanced out at the city again, wondering how long the journey would take. Hopefully the Chancellor would be available to see her right away, and she wouldn't have to wait around.

The pair of Sunfire Brigade soldiers rode close behind the coach as it rumbled through the city, their yellow and gold armors quite inconspicious in the receeding sun of the late tradetide. Green cloaks flowed behind them as the horses' hooves cantered along the cobble, the four horse carriage speeding up the hill towards the Citadel itself. It took no more than a couple of burns before it stopped before the gates, the guards moving forward to take care of the formality. "Lady Mairi Armstrong of Hafne, representative of Islay in the Advisory Council."

A small amount of murmur followed and soon the door was opened by one of the guards, who placed the steps for her to dismount. "We are here, milady. The Imperial Guards will escort you to Chancellor's Office." He waited for her to dismount, even going so far as to offer her his hand should she need it and then stood aside and a man dressed in white tabard with black cloak stepped closer and nodded in greeting. "This way, milady." Silently he led the way through winding corridors, finally making his way to a door marked Imperial Chancellor. Standing at attention he looked at the wall opposite him and waited for Mairi to knock herself.
