TI: A New Day Dawning, Chyril 23nd, MT

Post by Lir Calysta Markby »

Lir was up and about before the sun decided to grace them with its presence. She had changed into her new clothes, while packing her others away. Instead of her leather trousers, she had decided to put on a pair of loose fitting cotton drawstring pants which allowed cool air to slip through. On top she had put on one of her billowy white shirts to protect her arms in case she ventured out into the desert.

Then she put on a caftan, a sash around her waist and a scarf around her neck. She decided on a bland color scheme of greys, whites, beige and even a bit of black. The outfit helped improve keeping her own body cool from the dry heat. It was a mixture of all things she had seen in the Market place and hoped it was good enough to 'fit' in. Regardless, she wouldn't care very much if she was wearing nothing, but her undergarments if it would keep her cool.

After she had dressed, and before she decided to eat, Lir decided it would be best to find Brann and check on his wound of course he had went to sleep after she had left and it might be almost impossible to find him. She shouldered her bags and made sure she hadn't left anything behind and left the room to walk down the hall for some clue to find her patient.

Brann awoke with his dark hair matted across his face, the result of a hot, restless night in the boarding room. Despite his efforts to find a room that might court a faint seaborne breeze all he'd managed was a teasing rustle of the curtain and the tantalizing hints of waves upon the shore. With the morningtide sunlight already warming the small room, the achadhiel realized he may as well get up so he could retreat to the cooler rooms on the main floor.

What should have been a simple matter, and had been every other day of his life until that point, was actually getting dressed and heading downstairs. But with his sore arm complicating things, Brann's luck took a turn for the worse - well, more of a tumble really. The first pant leg had gone on without complaint, but the second was stubborn and when he shoved hard in frustration he lost his balance and fell awkwardly to the floor. Not a long way for someone of his stature, already bent over in the struggle with his pants, but with the accuracy of a cursed man he solidly banged his wounded arm.

"Gah!" he yelped, the strangled cry a mixture of pain and anger. "The Twins themselves have fingered me! Arrggghhh, by the Seven, that stings!"

His curses and grumbling came under control and he struggled on the floor to finish dressing, and then finally raised himself gingerly. With a guilty expression he shuffled to his door and drew back the bolt, sticking his head out into the hall. You've probably woken the entire establishment up with that performance, he thought sourly, over the ache in his arm.

But when his dark eyes travelled up and down the corridor, it seemed only one person had been disturbed by his invective - the healer Lir. And even she appeared too composed for his tirade to have woken her. He almost didn't recognize her at first, draped in a native costume far different from what she'd worn when they first met, but the patch paired with the one violet eye was a telltale even his morning-addled brain couldn't miss.

"Ahh, good morningtide, Lir," he offered with a slightly embarrassed smile. "I hope I didn't disturb you just there. I had, well, a small indiscretion with my arm," he explained, motioning with the bandaged appendage briefly.

"Perhaps you could have a look, and make sure the wound is still all right?" he suggested. Stepping back inside his room, he pushed the door open wider. "It's not much, but at least it has an ocean view," he smiled, more naturally this time, and motioned for her to enter.

As Lir was coming down the hall, she heard a sound of a struggle and even before she could react the door of the room opened. She noticed Brann looked harried and half dressed as his eyes met her.

Her violet eyes assessed the situation before the man could talk, but he confirmed her suspicions that it would be difficult to dress with a hand injuiry. "Sure. I was actually heading your way to find you." She followed passed Brann to go into his room and placed her bag on the bed. "Sit, and let me get started. Are you experiencing any increase in pain? Or smells from the wound?" Lir asked starting her assessment.

Infection was disgusting and oftentimes she remembered the complaints when it had developed. Lir let the achadhiel settle before attempting to unwind his bandages.

"None of that, I don't think," Brann shook his head as he sat on the edge of the bed, "except for when I hit it, or roll over on it in bed. I mean, it aches of course. But nothing more than I would expect, given what you had to do yesterday."

He remained silent and still for a few burns as Lir worked, and then spoke again to pass the time. "I see you've changed your wardrobe. Looks comfortable, and in a few weeks you'll probably be dusty enough to fit in." The achadhiel glanced at his own garb, knowing only more of the same lay in his pack. "Maybe you could show me where you got them, so I wouldn't stand out quite as badly?" he suggested hopefully. "There's a few places I'd like to visit today, the Rookeries, the baths, and the market for sure, and if I could even half blend in then it would be worth the effort."

"Until I open my mouth, I mean," he chuckled. "Something tells me an Isles accent and dialect isn't going to fool many people, maybe not even on a simple 'hello'."

A small smile appeared on Lir's face, "Yes, that would do it." It was the first light expression from her, but it quickly disappeared as she examined his wound. It seemed to have healed pretty well and just a bit of seeping and redness but not anything that wasn't manageable.

She took out a bit of the aloe that she had bought last night and applied it on the wound. "A new remedy from a local shop." Lir did not look up as Brann mentioned her new wardrobe. She nodded and finished applying the rest of the medicine. "It is cool and light. I can also move easily in them." A small nod was given in response. "It was not very far."

Lir tried to look stoic but it was difficult with how jovial Brann seemed to be. Regardless, she did not smile again and instead nodded once more, "All set here." As she wrapped a clean bandage around the wound to keep it secure. "You will be fine, and if you don't mind, those places do seem a bit interesting and perhaps it is safer in numbers."

The loner had actually accepted Brann's invitation to spend the day together shopping and exploring. Was she getting soft? She would rather not think about it was she rose. "Ready when you are," the healer replied as she assisted him with his shirt.

"I'd be happy to have another set of eyes and ears along," agreed Brann amicably. "Especially in strange territory."

When Lir had finished with his bandage and he'd finally gotten completely dressed, Brann gave the healer a quirky smile and escorted her out of the room and downstairs.

"Shall we peruse the market straight away, and perhaps grab something to eat there as well?" he suggested to his companion. "Then we can check out clothes and after that get down to business."

If things went their way, Brann figured they could be to the Rookeries within a couple of marks, tops. After all, how long could it take to scout out the market, get a bite of food, and find a few sheets (or whatever these strange clothes were called) in which to drape himself?

The healer acknowledged Brann's statement and after finishing up, headed out with him. A violet eye glanced over to catch the quirky smile on Brann's face and she wondered what he had to smile about.

"It sounds like a good idea." Was all she said not really finding it necessary to engage in conversation with her companion. Lir looked about and with her possessions secured headed with Brann to the Market.
The sights and sounds were as overwhelming as it was last tradetide.

Brann found negotiating the controlled chaos of the market much easier this morningtide, most probably owing to a good night's sleep and much less alcohol in his system. The noise was still somewhat disconcerting and the dust made his throat dry in a matter of flickers, but the innumerable charms of such a vibrant locale quickly began to outweigh such minor irritations.

He let Lir show him to the shop where she had purchased local clothing the previous evening, and browsed for a burn or three before allowing the proprietor to assist in choosing something suitable. The achadhiel had paid close attention to the locals since rising that morning, in their habit and quality of dress, and so had a rough idea of what image he was aiming for when discussing the various cuts and styles presented in the shop. Brann certainly wanted nothing ostentatious for the moment, preferring instead humble but serviceable duds that would allow him to better blend in with the local crowds.

After the better part of a half-mark, Brann felt he had an ensemble that would suffice. A white linen shirt and loose cotton trousers, tapered down by the ankle, were overlaid with a darker caftan with three-quarter length sleeves and a lower hem that skirted just below the knees. A pair of low leather boots and a headscarf loosley draped about his shoulders completed the outfit, leaving him ready to venture back into the city.

After twirling to display his new clothes for the healer, he drew close and indicated it was time to pursue the next part of their day. "Time to go see what the Rookeries has to offer," he stated, and then with Lir alongside made toward that ominously named warren that bore his very name.

The healer tried to remain aloof as Brann shopped for something more appropriate to survive in the desert. She watched him quietly as he made decisions but all the while kept her eye tuned into her surroundings. It made her uncomfortable having to walk around with so many people milling around but instead made her senses more awake on what was going on around her as well as close to her.

The achadhiel did make a fine appearance and the pair standing side by side were almost the same size. Without a word but just a nod of confirmation, she walked with Brann to explore this place called the Rookeries.
