Hrothgar's Logging Mill

Post by Finley Ward »

Of course anyone who looked at the logging mill would see only a small wooden cabin, a shack really, but with hard work and determination, Hrothgar would turn it around. He would get right to it, because that was just how he was, but first, he would need to quench his hunger with a quick meal. It had only taken Hrothgar a few burns to get from the small provost office to his acreage, but he hadn't eaten for over a tide, not since he had come through the portal at least.

The inside was much like the outside, rushed, but comfortable enough. The furnishings were very few but it looked like a modest living for someone of the lower class, which, Hrothgar assumed, were expected to be living here. He would run a fine business anyway, especially with his land right on the edge of the forest. He still needed to buy equipment, a cart at least to make his trips easier. A padlock and a fence would need to be built as well to keep stealing at a minimum. Hrothgar would start out with the basics, just a few cords of wood to keep the hearth's warm, and then he would make planks and such for use in housing, then he would move on to furniture and who knows where else he could go with this business!

These thoughts were well on the mind of Hrothgar so he set his belongings down in what he thought to be the kitchen. The house was set up awkwardly really, the door opened into a kitchen which led straight to the back of the house with a window that looked onto the forest, and to the right was a doorless frame which led to the bedroom and another doorless frame to the left of the kitchen which led to an office perhaps? It was empty except for a wooden chair that looked incredibly uncomfortable to sit in. The hearth was in the kitchen like room and there wasn't any wood inside to stoke the fire, but perhaps there was some outside. Hrothgar still could barely believe this, he had received 5 acres of prime property, a nice enough home, of course Hrothgar would expand it, but good enough for now, and all for free! Why everyone didn't come was a mystery to him.

On a polished island in the center of the kitchen was a box that opened to reveal some fruit, nuts, and other tidbits that would have to last a family 2 days at most, perhaps less for a hungry logging man! However, there was a weeks worth of flour in a sack near the box and most people could survive on bread if they had to. Hrothgar set his belongings down near the door and went over to sit at the island which didn't quite fit his size. Again, it would have to do; but if everyone had houses and furnishings like this one, Hrothgar would do himself well to get his business up quick.
