Landscapes

What materials do you use? I love the swirls of mist :)

Oh, and one of my drawing teachers used to say 'look, look, look, LOOK' to explain how to draw. It is all in a different way of looking at things, seeing shapes and lines instead of people.

ehm, for these paintings? I'm just using Open Canvas (a tiny little japanese drawing program you can download legally for free) - with the watercolour brushes, and a graphics tablet (wacom intuos 2). All on one layer for these paintings (pretty much) so the edges blend better.
In fact, that's what I do most of my drawing it. Photoshop's so big and intense with the number of things it can do that I find it a bit impractical for drawing in. It has trouble keeping up, mainly cause it's so RAM hungry, so it puts jaggy edges on your lines and does all sorts of other irritating things. =)
Whereas OC's small enough to fit on a floppy disc, and barely does any things at all - but all those things are directly drawing-related. you can also paintchat with it, which is fun.

The mist is just watercolour brush on a multiply layer in OC. ;) it took about five minutes. XD

yeah, your drawing teacher's right! drawing's all about observation - learning things about shape and scale and proportion, and anatomy in particular, and then teaching your hand to translate all those things. it gets a lot easier when you get over the first hurdle - which is not being scared of your drawing. And not being too careful, or rubbing out loads, or drawing one line fifty times. Draw it once! loosely, and quickly, and don't think about it, move onto the next one! Confidence is a hard thing to learn when it comes to drawing, but it improves your work no end.
Life drawing's important. Very good practice. and my art teacher always said, wherever you go, always take a sketchbook with you, and a pencil, and if you have a moment, waiting for the bus, or on the train, or wherever, just draw what you see. good advice, that.

blah blah blah drawing blah. I'm shutting up now. I'm sure no-one wants to hear all this rubbish. :P XD

Vin: Neato Toldeo! The mists are so cool and-I should stop before I start.

Fin: Wowwww. I can't draw or paint that good, no time, no patience.
:D A deadly combination...also lazy...oi. Looks really mystical. My earlier comments are not retracted.

aaaaand, since I spend hours of my sleep-deprived life making myself a new avatar, I thought I ought to make tazlure a present too!
(>_> and, coff, maybe a present for my portfolio too, ahem.)

I mean, I did sorta promise I would paint you some stuff and then not do a damn thing for ages, right? I dunno, I have fits and starts with the painting. Most of the time I suck at it. Sometimes it just, y'know, clicks, and it's all easy. It shocks me how easy it is, kinda like breathing, it just flows. Most of the time it's a hard slog and what you produce is arse at the end, but meh. I don't think today was one of those times.

Image

This will go in my portfolio and probably on the front page of my website, so yeah. But feel free to use it, if you like it... ^_^
I'm not sure where it is in tazlure... somewhere mountainous and grassy. Islay? mebbe... you'd know better than me. ;)

more later, I expect.... ;)

Thank you for all the kind donations. I must say I'm entranced by your use of color. It has a dreamy kind of quality :)

Not exactly a landscape, but I felt somewhat inspired.

W00t! That is cool.

It occurs to me that something like this would be absolutely perfect for the Tazlurian Wiki, to go in the top left corner where it currently says "Set $wgLogo to the URL path to your own logo image."

Needs to be 125x125 - feel like working something out? ;)

Smaller versions not a problem.

Still need to do some work on the map, does not wrap as well as I would like, and I need to eliminate the lettering. Feel free to use it if you want.

I can assure you that holding it real life on A0 poster size is even more stunning! I'm getting specialised material today to hang it on my wall without damaging it.

Now, I'd just like to mention to the community, not just to Finn, that the following areas do not have any art associated with them yet:

Kings Court
Aveas
Pax Balthasar
Citadel
Dort
Baron Estates

And of course numerous places currently not in play. Please post material there if you've felt inspired and drew something that would fit.

Also, there are several areas that still need maps. I know mods are very particular about them though.

As far as Citadel is concerned, I would be willing to provide you with detailed descriptions or give you ideas if you choose to paint something from that area.

I've used some of my own recent work for the Eastern Empire.

Here are the wiki links:

http://wiki.tazlure.nl/index.php/Image: ... arket5.jpg
This one was done on canvas and then completely redone with a blur brush in Lview pro because it scanned so ugly.

http://wiki.tazlure.nl/index.php/Image:Lotus2.jpg
This one scanned much better so I left it like it was. In real life the blues are touch more dark which gives it more vibrancy due to the contrast with the pink. Oh well. Fluffy stuff for the Lotus lake.

I figured I would post this under the "Scenery" section considering it is indeed scenery. :P

Is that the Floating City/markets for Long Dhan? It'd be great to see you expand on that picture (if, o'course, you feel like it!)

Thanks, Craghley!! *huggles*

I'm thinking of expanding, but my brother dropped a bottle of water over it, so the blurring actually make the picture better.
I have a colour version of it that I'm about to upload and I'm thinking of expanding on the idea, so yes, it is the floating markets.

I apologise if the pictures aren't all that realistic, it's the best I can think of when I think of Chinese/asian culture - I'm a lot better at Japanese-style art but heck, there's only so much you can do with watercolours.

This picture was done with a box of 24 crayons and a fineliner pen. ;) Goes to show what you can do with an editing tool, eh?
