The failed attempt made him feel worse then it was before and he began to wonder if perhaps he tore a muscle instead of merely dislodging it. The youth used a ribbon to tie his arm to his Gambeson, so it wasn’t bungling back and forth so much. ** “I got overzealous I should’ve waited for a healer instead of going at it by myself. Stupid… lad you are, you shouldn’t have been so cocky and just waited it out.” ** Nyae’rinthas massaged his shoulder somewhat firm around the pain area as to relax the muscles which cramped up. He made extra caution not to hurt it further as he didn’t plan to do this again.

As they moved one the soldier sighed of relieve but felt eerie as everything turned silence, the bird was gone also and he felt his luck was about to turn. The breeze was cold and immediately the soldier knew that could likely be one of those cards the she-demon was playing on them. “Be careful people something bad is going to happen… the witch is going to stir trouble… Keep your eyes open for anything even the tree life; she has the power to manipulate plants creating them into fiendish dark things… She done it already to several plants… Take a branch to protect yourself but do check if it a natural one or not… also be on look out for dangerous foes…” True this was indeed, as the mother was tainted to the point it was all but a hollow shell of a tree. The youth wondered if perhaps the shaper has spare seeds so to replant the tree or perhaps another trick to make sure the tree survives.

Calmly the youth took point wielding his shield on his workable arm, making sure it he held with a firm grip. The people had to be close to him, as he knew that the closer they stayed together the more force they also had. They were going to head to the water near the stream and stay clear from the large trees that were among them. The soldier took all precaution he could take, as he checked the flora as well as river for something dangerous coming their way. The shield was the only useful weapon, so he would use it to bunt, block and hit an opponent if attacked… Still he felt pretty outmatched as the other probably had little battle experience… quietly he tip toed towards the stream, staying low using his silent walk as best possible.

The group slowly made their way across the stream without incident. It was noticeably cooler on this side of the stream as opposed to the other. The eerie silence of the forest lingered as the began to enter into the forested area on the other side. Also a fog could be seen forming as it rose from the ground before them.

"I'm scared mister," a young boy said to Nyaerinthas. He was reluctant to go any further without holding on to the achadhiel warrior. He clung to his leg as his mouth started to tremble.

Another adhiel spoke," This does not bode well for us at all I fear," he said as he looked all around them.

"We should head back from whence we came," a woman said in a hushed tone of voice.

This didn't set well with Nyaerinthas who was going on blind faith and flight path of a bird. A bird that was now nowhere to be seen. The silence seemed to grow louder with each passing moment. Even though there was no sound the forest seemed to come alive in an unnatural manner.

The group about ten in total including Nyaerinthas huddled closely together. One adhiel, a male upon taking Nyaerinthas' advice picked up a branch from a fallen tree only to have into turn into a snake before his very eyes. He quickly threw it to the ground and began to stomp on it only to see that is nothing more than the branch he had picked up just moments ago.

"Mother give us strength," he said.

The pain in the healer's arm and shoulder area seemed to take a secondary role to this recent turn of events. If it wasn't for the fact that it was tied to his side he probably would've forgotten about it completely for a moment or two.

Nyaerinthas was there leader now, and they looked to him for direction.

The unusual phenomenon made him careful to act, as he knew likely something might be out there. Before the soldier could determine if it was a mirage or not they had to be very careful. The fog also did not bode well as it was like someone was trying to reduce the party's view. Listening to his fellow companions he noticed they were struck with some fear, although not to severe. “We have to remain calm, calculated and without fear of what is going here. That she-fiend feeds on our negative emotions like all dark beings do, so fear will only put us in a worse state.” Nyae’rinthas decided to stay on the cooler edge of the water touching it with his fingertips to determine if this change in temperature was a mirage or not.

The youth had noticed earlier that the bird was nowhere to be found and he felt that the guidance had run out and they were on their own now. “We cannot return back towards the side of those thugs, let us see if this is merely a mirage fuelling on our fears. If it is indeed a serious threat then we can use the river here to make our way towards Taloh and then cross somewhere were the woods are less dense.” The soldier knew that they couldn’t wait to long, so he tried everything in his power to determine if this was a trick or a real threat. They were now in the shallow water of the father’s domain and he knew that even though the she-demon abused the mother’s lands, the father of the heavens would certainly punish her if she abused his… well he hoped.

For now the river remained a safe choice as he calmed himself down with his breathing making it regulated. The troublesome band on his arm had no use as he had learned and removing it was the best thing to do, it would seem his shoulder wasn’t fractured luckily. A few burns of observing, as well as not entering the mist would tell a lot of this spell and if the forest was haunted in facto.

"We can not follow this stream," one of the adhiel protested rather loudly. It was the same one from earlier who noticed that the group of individuals was heading away from Taloh when they followed the eagle south. "Taloh is north, and that is where we will be the safest," he then added.

Then the sound came. One that would strike fear in all that heard it. From behind them they sound of dogs howling. It wasn't the sound of stray dogs or wolves native to the region. It was something far worse. Nyaerinthas and the other survivors automatically knew that it was the angry howling of the demon dogs from nights before.

They were following their scent.

They were coming after them.

A female adhiel took off running before anyone could stop her. She was scared and ran for her life downstream. Nyaerinthas grip on the situation was beginning to falter as two more of his group darted off into the forest ahead of him.

They had no weapons to defend themsleves against the killing machines. And they sounded like they were getting closer.

Everything went to pieces as fear took over some companions and they fled like pigeons away. He had to make a choice and that was pretty grim indeed, as whatever he chose he certain consequences.

The dogs were coming and the only thing that made sense was to follow the river east towards Taloh. He picked up the boy in placing him in between the shield his body, knowing he was too tiny to walk fast and would be safe behind the shield. “The dogs if they are like real ones water will fool their tracks, we head through the river the east as they will lose their scent.” With this the soldier headed downstream with the little boy close with him, at least the boy was going to be safe… They would head out of the watery trail when they made sure they lost the dogs, but for the longest part being wet was the best option.

The woman would be cought up as he would call out for her with the others. They would walk with a large circle towards Taloh entering it from the eastside rather then the south. If this plan failed a prayer was the only thing that could safe them then.

The howling of the dogs was sure sign that they were getting closer and the group was now divided. On woman ran east along the stream while two more kept on the northward path. The few that remained with Nyae were now starting to doubt his capabilities in leading them to safety. Tempers were beginning to wear thin for the usually patient adhiels.

"You go east along this stream if you like, but I will continue north," an adhiel named Jalen said. "If any of you would like to come along with me on towards Taloh then I suggest you follow me now, and not his fool."

There was some murmuring going on between them for a few brief moments and a decision came quick. Nyaerinthas was left alone, except for the little boy that clung to him for dear life.

"Good luck to you and the child an elder adhiel said to Nyaerinthas as he joined Jalen and the others. The healer was left with the young child named Arendil. The sound of the howling continued to grow louder and louder. There wasn't much time for indecision and the group parted was with Nyaerinthas and Arendil choosing to go east.

The group disappeared into the thickening fog and after 2 marks Nyaerinthas had travelled quite some distance. The howling of the dogs could no longer be heard which was calming for the time being. They young boy now walking on his own asked what felt like a million questions of the healer.

Nyaerinthas though seemed lost in thought. He kept looking to the sky for signs of the eagle but each time he looked up there was no sign of it. The two came to clearing as they followed the stream. The fog was steadily getting heavier and thicker. This frightened the youth and again he latched on to the healer for safety.

As for the other party they made they way through the forest without incident. Their path eventually lead them into a border patrol unit that had been staked out not too far from the borders of the capitol City Taloh. They were given food and water and some were treated for minor wounds and injuries. Jalen when questioned told one of the patrolling guards of the incidents and of their rescue. He also told him about Nyaerinthas and the young boy that went along with him and how they separated.

"That is too bad," the guard said to Jalen. "The city will be evacuating. We are looking for any survivors from the attacks and gathering them together. Unfortunately for the one who freed you, a party will not be sent after him. Our numbers are too small, we can not risk it. May the Mother have mercy on his soul. If he somehow makes it back to the city he will find it abandoned."

The guard informed the group about the dead coming back to life in Taloh. Shock formed on the face of the evacuees as this was news to them. Some cried, some prayed, and there were those that were just happy to be alive. Jalen and the rest would be escorted back to the city to meet with the other adhiel in thier mass exodus of the city.

"I'm hungry sir," Arendil told Nyaerinthas. They had travelled some distance now and neither had eaten since the previous night. The inquisitive child then caught the healer completely off guard when he asked him if he knew where he was going.

OOC: Made the post more open, due to not having navigation skill.

It seemed that the Adhiel were going to find them selves pinched between the sea and several enemy forces, still this was something the youth did not know about at this date. Nyae’rinthas felt uneasy about the denser fog and decided to continue walking in northwards direction, as his navigation skill was minimal. The healer knew that north was where moss grew on trees as his herbal lore had taught him to seek the northsides of trees for nutrious mosses.

The youth request for food was understandable and the soldier decided to take some common known berries and nuts to fill their hunger. It was fall and the woods yielded plenty of food during this season. Also he had several nutrious herbs like Chives, which was rich in vitamines and iron.

Unusual it was that the others had cared too little, to bother trying to take the little boy with them, a sign showing they cared for their own hide then of their fellow Adhiel. He wondered what about the people he travelled with and he wondered how they were faring, they seemed decent folks and he hoped they were safe.

The soldier had managed in times to stay without food for several days, as in military forces food supplies tended to be slow moving carts easily lost. They would have to make due with food resources available around them… the common foods only to not get poisoned by strange herbs. The boy wouldd not waver from his side as he was the only one he cared about during this time. “We will be alright, let just get some berries and nuts as we travel along, my little lad. Else I have some chives we can chew on in the meanwhile, or make some nettle soup.” Were he was going to end up was even a clue to him… Only going north now was the simple option, chance was the he would totaly miss Taloh, still the burned places of the night and the smell of burned woods would be a simple beacon to be guided by.

The fog continued to thicken. So thick it looked as if it were going to choke out the daylight itself as Nyaerinthas and Arendil wandered through the woods. They only stopped to pick and eat the various nuts and berries that they could find. It wasn't enough to fill their appetites but it would provide enough sustenance for the to to carry on.

The forest still had an unnatural silence to it. Even more disturbing was the utter lack of the normal inhabitants. No bugs fbuzzing about, no birds singing their songs in the trees. It was utter silence, only Nyaerinthas and Arendil's footsteps could be heard.

The healer stopped short. He thought he had heard something a voice. He looked around to find no one there. Continuing on the young achadhiel again stopped after again thinking that he had heard a voice. Ona branch not too far from where the two stood was the eagle. He stared at Nyaerinthas with cold emotionless eyes.

"You have failed me," the voice said. "You asked me to guide you, and protect you, to show you the way. I have young Nyaerinthas. I have shown you the direction to take but you chose not to follow. So now I turn my back on you young man, as you have turned yours on me."

The eagle flew off into the skies above and the forest suddenly exploded with sound. The sound of three demon dogs growling. Their bodies low to the ground as they circled Nyaerinthas and Arendil. The hair on the back of their necks was raised and their angry teeth were bared. They continued to circle the pair, getting close and close to them with each pass. Young Arendil screamed.

The dogs pounced in unison. Two towards Nyaerinthas, the third attacked Arendil. Their attack was brutal and effecient. The demon dog that had attacked Arendil sunk it's teeth deep into the young adhiel's neck, snapping it instantly. It shook it's head from side to side fiercly, whipping the poor lad back and forth like a toy doll. His death came quick as he never knew what hit him.

Nyaerinthas had little time to react, his shield did nothing to save him as he soon felt the weight of both demon dogs atop of him. Thier teeth dug into the exposed areas of his body. One latched on to a leg, the other an arm as the tugged at his body in opposite directions. The young achadhiel scream in agony as the dog ripped away at his flesh. They tore flesh from bone with terrible ease.

It didn't take the dogs long to do their work. The lifeless bodies of Arendil and the healer, Nyaerinthas devoured completely. The only thing that remained after the dogs feasted were the bones of the two and bits of clothing tossed here and there. Nyaerinthas' shield remained as well, the eagle emblem on the front was face down in the dirt. The father had indeed turned his back on Nyaerinthas.
