"It must be my time at the forge, but I see the energy as raw hot metal that I hammer into the form I need. The anvil serves as my ground, and the hammer and apron as my shielding allowing me to meld the energy without letting it in to close." Even as he said this Dartimos knew it wasn't the whole truth, but he was torn about how much he should tell Cleo.

After a moments pause he continued. "There's more though. The fire, the energy seems to speak to me sometimes, as though it has a life and mind of its own. That is part of what Master Benito wanted to research before we started working again."

As he spoke he wathched Cleo's face closely to see her reaction.

Cleo frowned as if puzzled by something she couldn't quite recall as she listened to [b]Dartimos[/i]'s explanation of the Aether.

"I've read about someone who described hearing voices in the Aether before but I can't quite remember where. It must have been a while back, not that it matters though I guess. It could just be something in your subconcious making itself known to you. Can you actually understand what the voices are talking about?"

Dartimos thought for a long moment before answering.

The librarian told me that the Children of the Fire were not popular with Dominicus, and I know Cloe and her family are worshipers of the One, but still she was friends with Rowena,.............

"Well, they call to me, they call me a Child of Fire. I know that is part of what Master Benito was looking up. At first I thought I was crazy, but he heard it too. It is something, but he is still working on figuring out what."

"I've not heard that term before, but I have heard of mages that have a affinity with flame. Perhaps something in your mind is recognising your affinity for the energy of fire. I believe they are called Elementalist Sorcerors, or something along those lines, it been a while since I read about them." Cleo replied, not reacting to Dartimos's mention of the term.

"Either that or one of the Spirits of the Aether saw your power and recognised it. Be carefully though I've heard there are Spirits on the Aether that try and trick people into letting their guard down, there have been cases of them even trying to possess the bodies of the unwary."

"I'm sure that is why Master Benito wanted to do some research before we continued. He is most protective of his students, as I am sure you noticed."

Dartimos leaned back as the food arrived and let them serve. First Cleo, then himself, had steaming plates set in front of them.

"There is supposed to be a reading list for me as well that he will have ready, hopefully tomorrow. I am sure all of this is included in what he wants me to review."

The smell of the food took over. It was not fancy, but stick to your ribs food as his mother called it.

OOC: Unless Cleo has more to say, the next quarter mark or so will be taken up with Dartimos demonstating what a smith's appetite looks like :lol:

OOC: Sorry for the long absence I've been having some time problems with project workload. Didn't expect it to drag on this long.

Cleo tucked in with equally apparent enjoyment into the food the serving maid delivered for her. Though she didn't order near as much as Dartimos they still managed to finish in close to a similar time due to the difference in the pace they went through the food.

"Master Benito has actually been a master at the College for long, perhaps your perception of the Aether was just something he needs to get a better understanding of before he goes pushes ahead with your lessons. At least you'll be able to get the required reading out of the road so it might help you progress when your lessons in energy weaving and runes start." Cleo said, after they had both reached the point of being close to have cleared their plates of food.

"So,"said Dartimos, finally pushing his now empty plate away. "enough about the college. I am sure Master Benito will figure it out in time. Tell me more about you. Where do you come from? Brothers or sisters? Boyfriend back home?" The last was said with just a little more emphasis than Dartimos intended, despite his attempt to keep his voice even and light.

He reached up and waved for the check, both to hopefully distract Cleo from the faux pua, and to give himself time to settle his nerves.

"What this invite me out to dinner and then see what information you can fish up? Dartimos, your sly as well as cute I see. Though in answer to your question I've got family in the Mouth, but no boyfriend I started at the college early to get away from someone who wanted to be more than friends regardless of what I thought of the situtation. Once I came here to learn to be a magician though he became a bit more wary of me." Cleo answered, giving Dartimos a smile as she made it clear that she hadn't missed his change in tone at all.

Dartimos had the good graces to squirm a little bit. "I wasn't trying to be sly. I just figured that there might be some huge fellow with six brothers after me for dating his girl. Now since I have large brothers of my own, I just needed to now if I should send them a message that they were needed."

Dartimos paid the bill, leaving a nice tip for the serving girl and the escorted Cleo out the door and started walking her back to the college.

"So if I ask you out again do I risk being turned into a frog?"

"No huge fellow with brothers, though I do have a few brothers of my own that you might like to be careful of." Cleo said, with the mischievous smile.

"Indeed the oldest two are the in the... well the King's army now I should say, I almost said the Prince's. The family hears from them occassional though my third brother is the only one who took an interest in father's cooperage business. He makes some of the best slack barrels here in the Mouth. As for asking me out, again, I might actually say yes, and though I can manage an illusion of a frog I can't manage a transformation effect."

Darti's eyes were alight as they continued to walk. "I'm not worried about your brothers," he said puffing out his chest and taking on a clearly intentionally boastful tone of voice.

"I intend to win them over with my wit, my charm, and the excellent care I take of thier little sister." They continued to walk arm in arm through the streets until they reached the gates of the college. Dartimos pushed the door open and escorted her inside and to the steps of the girls wing of the dorm.

"This was wonderful," Dartimos told her as they reached the base of the steps. "Thank you very much, I think you were able to alay my fears about what I have been seeing while I have been here." He drew her in to hug her before letting her head up the stairs, but gentlely, clearly giving her her own space and the chance to pull back if she wished.

"Thanks Dartimos I enjoyed the meal." Cleo replied, before giving him a hug in return, as well as a quick smile the effect of which clearly touched her eyes.

"Have a good night's sleep." She said, as she drew back and headed up to the female dorm area.
