"....anyone there.... there.... there....." Only echo answered Ospray's call. The interior of the temple was dark after the sunny day in the clearing outside. The chamber behind the door was about forty paces long and there were rows of benches by the walls. Several doors on the side walls led to the chambers beyond, while another large gateway led further into the temple on the far wall. It was opened and another large room was visible.

Rows upon rows of stone benches stood in the room beyond as it was lighted from above. A trio of statues stood on the far end, about a hundred paces from the main doors. Vaguely feminine in form, their exact features were not recognizable. An altar stood in front of them, with a simple book stand next to it. Still, nothing moved within. No sound, but the wind howling through the now opened doors.

The entire interior was strangely clean. Not a speck of dust or a spot of dirt covered any surface. The benches in the room beyond shone white in the sunlight. The floors were scrubbed clean, and though they were made of rough stone, a slight scent of herb rose from it. The temple was maintained until recently. Someone cleaned it thoroughly not a week before. No trace of humans or adhiel was visible now. Simple cleanliness. Nothing more.

Slowly Ospray made his way into the larger room that housed the alter. On the way, he began to observe how clean the place was. Judging from the smell of the herb rose this place was cared for greatly but there was something Ospray kept pondering. Well somebody has went to great lengths to keep this place in good shape, but no one is home. From further observation he notice that it seemed no one was in a hurry to leave, if they did at all. There were no signs to indicate the occupant were fleeing but more or less calmly left. Then he thought about how it could be someone still is here. Though either way all would reveal itself shortly.

Turning away from his thoughts he began to walk over to the alter and the 3 figures. Indeed he could tell they were feminine but he wondered what or who these figures were. Although, with the items in this room it was obvious this part of the building had to be a sanctuary of some sort, for it was similar to those he had seen in the Mouth during his days at the orphanage. Though on the alter was some sort of a book. Hmm...A religious text of some sort? He began to flip through the pages a bit, but naturally he didn't understand the language being used. Time seemed like a short minute but Ospray looked to see the sunlight fading into night. While the book did catch his attention he left this room to explore more about the building. Some place for him to sleep would need to be found, for he didn't really care for the idea of sleeping on a stone floor. Plus he also wanted to see if anyone else was there.

It was empty. THe statues depicted a young girl, a grown woman and an old lady. A Maiden, A Fertile Mother and an Old Crone. Three aspects of Mother. Not that any of this was apparent to those not familiar with it. All three had serene faces and all three were carved to perfection. The book on the stand contained what appeared to be songs. For now there was no way Ospray could read them. They were in a script unknown to him.

The rest of the temple was clean too. No signs of a sudden departure. It was as if the occupant simply disappeared. Decided it was time to leave, set everything just right and left. The rooms of the entrance chamber led to a hallway where small living rooms were located. Nobody occupied those for quite some time, though they too were pristine. A set of stairs led upwards. That tall stone tower was about there. It was a safe bet that the stairs led upwards into the tower and up to its top. Wind whistled through the halls, playing a haunting music not unlike wailing.

Ospray came to the base of the stairs that lead upward. After looking into a few of the living rooms nothing appeared of importance. Indeed he was quite relieved there was a place to rest for the night, but nothing seemed to catch his attention. Though, he did find it strange that no one has occupied them. He figured at least someone would have slept in them before, but the bed was made to neatly to suggest this. Such a sight in the rooms only added more confusion about this place. Hmm. Perhaps this place is some sort of vacation spot for a religious order?? This was the only thing he could come up with to explain why the temple was abandoned. Then other alternative thoughts came to him, being must unpleasant.

Suddenly he heard what seemed to be music coming from the stairs leading upward. It was of a level to bring him back out into the hallway. Though he didn't see anyone. What is that?! Slowly he made his way to the base of the stairs. There he looked up the spiral as if to see someone. [i]I must be going crazy or is that really music?[i/] For a few moments he waited to see if it would stop or if someone would come down. Naturally nothing happened. A sudden chill ran down his spine, a reflex not of fear but of his body telling him to exercise caution. Slowly he began his ascension upwards into the tower. He proceeded as a snail does taking one step at a time, all the while looking around the corner. On his journey he peered out into the small windows of the tower which he knew someone could see him. But no matter, the last bit of space in this place was more of a concern. Onward he pressed continuing to listen to the music like noise, waiting to see what is to be discovered.

No music it was. Simply the wind. Ospray's journey up the stairs of the tower revealed the clever design of windows that allowed the music to be played. There was no doubt that the stone plinth was natural at one point in time. Some magic had been used to shape it into a tower it was now. Subtly it's shape had been changed to accommodate for the adhiel means. Steps were rough, but even. Round and round they went, seemingly without the end.

It was untold burns when the human emerged into sunlight. The top of the tower revealed itself. Flat and with only a small fence it presented a staggering view to a visitor. As far as the eye could see the forest stretched. To the north mountains were visible. A trails meandered that way. It would be safe to assume it was the path cervytaurs took. To the south a different scene played. A thick wall of smoke rose from the forest floor, obscuring the view beyond. It stretched for long leagues from east to the west. No fire was visible, but something must have caused it. What could it be?
