"She is ead. Antoine saw er body at the Teple. Does not know details, ut she is ead." Kaspar's jaw hurt and he pretended to take a sip of espresso that was already gone, to relax the muscles before he went on. "I have no clue vere Pulo is. Ut, it is quite possible he is dead. It is possible he vos decapitated. I'll see vat ve can learn of it. Perhaps vee have been asking the wrong questions? Vhy vould Pulo be in that office? Did not seem stupid to me. Nor crazy."

Rosalie frowned and reached for her fan, waving it for a while, thinking through this riddle. Her mind worked furiously. Really she ought to spend more time with Kasper, except that if she did she probably wouldn't be talking. Using her fan for cover she finally uttered "So, what if the fact I was there was no coincidence? Perhaps Pulo sought to reach me, urgently. He might have wanted to report on the demonhunt, or something else. He was however interrupted... by the Imperial Mage, or someone in his office..." Or something. Rose's imagination ran wild. "By Dominicus, I might have escaped by a hair!" She actually laughed at that, the tension making her gigglish. Rosalie was on a high of danger, adrenaline pumping. Oh, these coming days would make or break her. "So, is there anything that the Empire would like to keep hidden from us, other than that they have a daemon infestation?" The war. I'll be damned to the Nether if this doesn't somehow connect to the War.

(OOC: If I may be so bold. Mairi is a bit tied up with exams and asked if I could give us a start into brunch. ;) )

The Envoy of the Clans had opted for the coach, but decided that an escort would be too ostentatious. So it was that Barrett and Mairi were deposited at Black Bridge by a coach bearing the livery of the Dort Embassy. The tall flame-haired Dortman exited first, cutting an impressive figure. His black hose and snugly tailored doublet showed off a most un-scribelike physique. The crisp white shirt beneath added a bit of contrast while maintaining the austere look of simple lines and sober black fabric. The only touch of extravagance was the ring he wore, which bore the device of the Imperial Trade Guild.

He quickly turned to attend to the lady he was escorting: a dainty woman with hair a more subdued shade of auburn than her companion's. Her dress was a rich chocolate brown, and although simple it was of fine silk and impeccably tailored. The few neatly pinned plaits in her hair and the exquisitely worked silver torque she wore marked her as an Islay lady. The dark dress drew attention to her fair skin and silver-blue eyes.

Barrett expertly guided the young lady into the establishment. Though it was a new place for him, his eyes caught the pattern of its layout and took in the details of who sat where and which seats afforded the best view – both of Citadel and of their fellow clientele. Some of these were already taken, but he picked the best of what remained.

"Lady Mairi, this spot looks agreeable, yes?"

ooc: thanks Barrett!

As they drew up to the building, Mairi stared in fascination at its unique archtiecture and dark colour. It was certainly one of the more interesting buildings she had seen so far - a good choice of destination. She made a mental note to thank Thavia later.

The table that Barrett chose seemed ideal, and Mairi nodded in assent.

"Yes, this is fine, thankyou," she replied, and took her seat. "Well then, shall we get down to business? Or perhaps we should pursue a lighter conversation first."

Had he been a mage Kaspar might have made the connection between the Imperial Thaumaturge and the portal accident, but being a simple Sergeant the man merely shrugged and sighed. "I on't nov. Ee vas at Embassy efore ee vent to seek you. I'll try to learn ore. It ill take time. Vee assume he is dead. Vorst case scenario. Better safe than sorry." he glanced over Rosalie's shoulder as Barrett and Mairi came in and added. "I fink that man was with Pulo. And Captain."

The moment the pair selected a table, the waiter assigned to it was at their side, ready to help the lady get seated. "Good morning, milady. Milord. Welcome to Blackbridge. Please, if there is anything you need, don't hesitate to ask.' With that he was off, moving to stand close to their table, ready to jump should they need him, but keeping a respectful distance to the pair and not even looking directly at them.

Trying not to be too obvious about it, Rosalie casually glanced at Barrett, mentioning to Kaspar as she turned back, using her fan again "Find out everything you know about him, and the other people of the Hunt. We must cultivate their contact with the Mouth. That will be another goal of that Dort party. The more friends we gain, the better."

Rosalie finished her carpaccio with relish, then looked at Kaspar, arching an eyebrow "Shall we? I want to do some shopping this tradetide."

It was with a simple nod that he answered, his facial muscles threatening to cramp from the effort of speaking without moving his lips. As they rose the waiter approached their table and bowed respectfully. “I trust everything has been to your liking, Madam Consul? Lord Varesh wanted you to know that he has taken care of your bill.” He motioned towards the elderly man she knew from the party who rose a glass of wine her way and smiled pleasantly. Kaspar spared him a glance and moved to assist her with rising.

With the assistance of Kaspar she rose, her dark eyes settling on Varesh. She smiled. Etiquette dictated she'd thank him for the offer and so she floated towards him, not even waiting for Kaspari "Signore Varesh," she told him in her low husky voice "That was entirely unnecessary, but so very, very gallant of you."

Lord Varesh smiled as the lady came, rising moment before she was at the table and bowed. With a shake of his head he dispelled her notions. "Think nothing of it. Truth be told it was a rather selfish thing to do. I know you liked the food, because it is quite exquisite and this way you are more likely to come again. And should you find yourself without an escort you might consider inviting an old man such as me to keep you company." He shrugged and smiled making it quite obvious he was merely jesting.

ooc: wrapping up for Barrett and I - thought we should get a move on towards synch!

ic:

Mairi and Barrett had a fairly long and earnest conversation over Black Bridge's brunch specialities. Mairi divulged to Barrett as much information as she had about the situation in their homeland. Hafne burned, Oneists invading the Clan lands, the Clansmen themselves restless for independence and rumours of darker forces at work in the land. In return she learned of the latest council goings - on, and the two parted ways with their newly learned information and a newly formed friendship to boot.

"It was a kind thing to do," Rosalie smiled, "I am sure we shall meet again." With a nod of her head she left, the thought of the old yet charming Lord Varesh lingering.

Lord Varesh nodded and went back to his food, observing the conversation between the newly arrived pair as he switched from food to a book on magickal theory he had produced from somewhere. He was not so forward as to pay the brunch for Mairi and Barrett as well, but the lady was recognized by the Blackbridge staff and the bill was sent to the Dort Embassy.
