Something Fowl This Way Comes - CH 27 TT - Closed

Post by Alexandrya L`handriel »

The headache that was ailing the silver-haired achadhiel had greatly diminished giving her the ability to move about again. Jonah and Motley were kind enough to escort her home and she was fully planning on letting Motley know of what had been going on since their last exchange of spoken words.

The migraine made it impossible to concentrate, let alone talk and she was left in the dark with a damp rag over her eyes and forehead while she rested.

They had plans to meet the next day and Alexandrya was determined now to be laid up in bed mewing like a hurt kitten. Instead, she walked about the cozy little home and tried her best to lighten it and prepared a very light lunch of fruit, cheese, and bread. She did not prepare anything to drink quite yet but hoped that Motley would arrive soon as the events of the days before continued to cloud her mind.

The same events that clouded Alex's mind were absent from Motley's thoughts as he had not seen or felt the same things she had. For him, the Parrot Parade had been a light, jovial event with the exception of seeing his friend collapse in the street. This was not her first headache, so the ugly little troubadour had assisted her home, and quickly agreed to return the next day without complaint.

His own mind had been a swirling tangle of thoughts of a different sort, and the new day brought a new perspective. He made some room for Angelica in his home last night. It wasn't a difficult job, as he led a very meager life, and some of the shelves in his home were still empty months later. So one he had completed the task of making room for her, he straightened up his little house and practiced on his lute for a mark or two. Playing was what soothed him. Creating music was his refuge and serenity, so in times where life was troubling, he sought solace in his music.

The new day brought with it a bit of clarity. His mission to unite the four split pieces of magic would utterly fail. He wasn't strong enough. Plain and simple. No amount of wishing or worry would change that fact, and with acceptance came a certain sense of peace. It would be a valiant struggle to be sure, but he much preferred winning over a stylish death. So rather than go on with a losing cause, his mind turned over new thoughts and ways to bring the same results into existence. For that he needed a great deal more information. Some of that started with Alazandra. Some of it could only be found within his own soul.

He was anxious to see and speak with her. He hoped she was feeling better, and that she could spend a little time talking.

He rapped on the door and smoothed his coat as he waited for her to answer.

The aspiring actress heard a knock on the door and headed towards it to greet her friend. She opened the door and smiled sweetly at Motley. "Come in, Motley. May I take your coat?" She started with warm formality to get them both comfortable. Once she directed him that he can sit wherever he wanted she asked, "Did you want something to drink? I have tea, some milk, and I think a berry juice."

She in turn was going to get some tea which was always a nice soothing ritual that Jonah had done many times and she in turned learned by mimicking.

When they were both finally settled, Alexandrya gathered her thoughts for a moment and then spoke. She let the heat of the mug radiate into her hands as she inhaled the vapors. "I am sorry if I was a cause for worry, Motley. I thought what I had was placed firmly under control, but yesterday...I fear that Red storm is back. I do not know for sure, but I think it is manifesting in Callara. I hope what I feel is not true. I have been working on my mental shields to prevent anyone from emotionally attacking me through my mind.

Alexandrya hoped that did not sound as strange as she spoke the words but let the hesitation sink in. "After our meeting, when you and Callara both stormed off, I knew I needed to do something to. I went down by the beach and well, unless I am going addle-brained, I spoke with the Mer." Clear grey eyes caught Motley's mix matched ones to try to gauge a response before moving on. "It described the Blue Parrot procession and how long ago, there was a little child that had been thrown off the cliffs as a gift instead of the parrot. The Mer described how the offering was too great and it kept the child safe and restored. Then the Mer started to get angry at Roque because there is no more worship for it, even though we rely so heavily on the Mer's good graces.

Her expression was concentrated and concerned. She hoped that Motley believed her and did not think she was jesting with him. Of course if it was anyone else, she would expect awkward laughter and a quick change of the subject.

When that all soaked in, Alexandrya was going to bring up the day of the Monastery visit, as well as what happened yesterday.

Motley allowed his coat to be taken without hesitation.

"Thank you."

He replied quietly. He scanned the room quickly and chose a low chair that wouldn't allow his feet to dangle overly much. As he sat, he replied to her offer of a beverage.

"Tea would be lovely."

As he waited, he glanced around to take in the furnishings and decorum of Alazandra's home. He stood graciously as the drink was brought to him and then made himself comfortable once more.

Her words about the Red Storm and her concern that this time it was Callara raising it served as nothing more than a confirmation of his own fears about the girl.

He was about to speak, but held his tongue as she continued. It was obvious that she had been thinking about her words for a long time. Perhaps yesterday had served as a catalyst to get them out. She was anxious to get it all out, and he quietly let her speak.

Her revelation about the Mer proved to both capture his attention even further, and caused an eyebrow to arch in surprise. If Alazandra was searching for a reaction from him, she would find him an attentive and engaged listener as she spoke. When she fell quiet, he quietly responded.

"First, I'll say that I'm glad you are well. When you collapsed yesterday, I was worried that was not the case. Having you hale and hearty was the most important thing to me."

He took a sip of his tea to gather his thoughts.

"As for the Red Storm, it was my fear that it was taking over Callara when she fell before us. I did my best ..."

What a damn fool Callara is...

He trailed off. He wanted to be petty and say I told her so, but stopped short. Feeling self righteous wouldn't help anyone, and would be a waste of their time.

"I did meet with her mentor, Ushuaia. I warned him of her instability and her ambition, so hopefully he has been keeping an eye on her. He wasn't terribly receptive to the idea, but I don't get the impression he took my warning lightly. We were interrupted by Callara herself and they went off together. She was very angry with me for meeting with her teacher behind her back."

The crass side of Motley smiled at the thought. A trace of a grin found it's way to his broad lips, but he subdued it as he moved on to the next topic of discussion.

"From what I have learned from Angelica, I'm not surprised that the Mer would be angry. While we are sharing information, there is something you need to know. I'm not sure if we have covered this before, and if we have please forgive me, I'll be organizing my thoughts as we go. The protective spirit of Roque D'Ancourt has attuned itself to Angelica. Whatever happened, the protective magic of Roque has split into four parts, and those four parts corresponding to air, earth, water and fire. Angelica is Air. I believe Gerben von Emstellach is earth. The Mer is obviously water, and I think Ushuaia is the fire aspect."

He took another sip as he treaded familiar ground.

"The child that was thrown off the cliffs was Angelica. I know it was many yahren ago, but the protective spirit has locked her as she is for a long time, just as you said. If the Mer is angry with the people, it is likely because she hasn't received her proper tributes over the yahren. Whether this is something because of the other church in the city, specifically the church of Dominicus, or simply that the Mer has not been receiving whatever it is she is supposed to receive is irrelevant. She is displeased, and this city literally hangs on her good graces. I'm very glad you spoke with her. I cannot imagine a better representative of the city than you for her to come into contact with. Would that we could all be judged by you."

He ignobly wiped his crooked mouth with a sleeve.

"My plan to become some sort of shaman to unite these spirits into one would likely fail. I'm simply not strong enough. But, that doesn't mean another can't, or that there isn't another way. Perhaps there is some ritual or ceremony we can perform to appease these elemental spirits. Perhaps this is a task for another, I don't know. But I'd like for you to come with me as I'd like to ask Angelica some very pointed and direct questions. Perhaps together we can figure out a way to restore the spirit to its full and unfettered power, and then Callara and the Red Storm would be rendered impotent."

The last bit he was going to keep to himself, but in the interest of full disclosure, he shared his private secret.

"I went to the monastery. I've adopted Angelica. They wanted her to be the one to bear the parrot in the parade. Insisted that she be without her consent, and they tried to physically drag her off to make her do it despite her protests. She was terribly frightened by the whole ordeal. In order to remove her from consideration, I filled out the forms and adopted her to set her free from the madness. They can't touch her now, and I will impose whatever will and power that I have on them should they ever try to harm her again."

Relief flooded her as Motley took in her words. He does not believe that I am going insane. Alexandrya listened to what Motley told her about Ushuaia and nodded in confirmation. I have yet to meet this Ushuaia, but I guess I should try soon enough.

No surprise came from Motley's revelation on who and the elements embodied inside of them. What was a surprise was Angelica even though it should not have been. The young girl always seemed like a child that carried a burden because she did not have anyone who could understand her. It was a good thing that Motley found her and they are together. He will keep her safe. The light that...

As the pieces fell together as more of the story was told. Fable, myth had just turned into reality and it sent chills down her spine. "Judged by me? I do not know if the Mer would want to be her vassal. I can understand tributes and the constant struggle with 'The One' but really, there are others out there and if one does not acknowledge that they will soon understand. I think the Mer just does not like to be taken for granted, or worse, forgotten. She believes with devastation come hope and the town calling out for mercy. With that to worry about, and the maker of the Red Storm...the body count will be numerous and our town will cease to exist."

What Motley revealed next astonished her. "Who would demand such a thing? If the child did not wish it how could they force her? The parade is supposed to be a celebration. I am glad that you were able to adopt her. If you ever need any assistance, please let me know."

She grew quiet for a moment and then spoke up once more, "At the monestary when I fainted, it was because I had some powers manifesting and was overwhelmed by a white light. So many emotions were swimming about I did not know who they all belonged to. I think Angelica might have contributed to that and I hope she was told on my behalf that I am fine. I have been working on my shield to protect my mind from turning into putty. I was doing a whole lot better until yesterday. It all happened so fast, greed, as if it needed to feed, the sheer magnitude of the rage. It just could not be ignored. If we face this together, I really need to work better on my own presence. Something was going on, I could not see with all the people, but I swear I caught a glimpse of callara."

A small frown appeared, "What were your thoughts on her mentor? Does he understand what is growing inside of her? Did he inform you of how we can stop her or whatever is inside of her?"

"City officials came for her. I never got their names, but at one point they were attempting to pull her away from the monastery by force. That was when I intervened. I very much appreciate the offer of assistance. Were I you, I would not be surprised in the least if a call for help came. I may need you sooner than you might guess or want."

Motley listened carefully to her words about emotions and shielding herself from it. He himself had never experienced such a thing, his power, in whatever brief and slowly expanding magnitude it held, had always been his and untouched by others.

"I have read of such things, but have never experienced them for myself. But your point on the swirling emotions aspect is well taken. Both you and Callara have collapsed at different times, but I'm wondering if the reasons are the same. Perhaps she too has been... overloaded by the emotions of others. It might even affect the way the Red Storm influences her, or perhaps even the rest of us. Perhaps the lack of emotion is of key importance in defeating it."

"Ushuaia is..." he paused, gathering his thoughts on the fiery power of the Phoenix, "... like a living flame himself. He seems singular in his thoughts and purpose, and like a fire he burns with the same drive and energy towards his goals. I think he knows all too well what danger she is toying with and to be honest, I'm not certain he wants her to quit. He seems to view her experiments as an addiction, and he cared little for her. I get the feeling he thinks he can stop it at any time, and if she gets out of hand, he will kill her outright. With the touch of the power I experienced in him, I don't doubt he could."

A frown was present at the mention of city officials almost forcing the little girl to carry the fake parrot in the parade. To some, it might be an honor but to her, another possible chance of re-living a nightmare. The poor child. Such a burden to bear.

A small nod to acknowledge Motley's thoughts on the matter of her abilities and how it seemed almost parallel in some ways to Callara's. The comments on Ushuaia didn't calm her. In fact, it angered her. "I feel that he may think too much of himself but still a coward. He is probably hungry to see what the Blood can do within Callara until it uses her until it tears her apart. I fear Ushuaia will not be able to destroy this, or even Callara. The Blood won't let her go because it needs her but once it finds a new and more willing host...a more powerful host..."

Her words halted as she exhaled deeply. "Motley, my main concern is does Callara want to even be saved? If she, like Marcus before her is consumed by the greed for power, there won't be anything left of her, but does she even want to be saved? She reached out to it voluntarily, because she was curious or because she wanted what she witnessed. Maybe she believes that she can control it but eventually she will fail and Ushuaia will miscalculate something and then where will we be?"

She rubbed her temples gently and went down another path, "What of Gerben? Have you spoken to him? I think he is trying to shield me of these things and concerned of my own growing abilities, but does he believe Callara can be leashed, does he think Ushuaia can do the leashing? We may need to speak with him as well, perhaps bring Angelica and Gerben together if you believe it is safe."

His scar itched.

It always itched when the Red Storm or Marcus, or the Blood was mentioned around him. It was always there, just bubbling below the surface. He rubbed at it absently with the tips of his nimble fingers as his conversation with Alazandra progressed.

"I touched his power when I spoke to him. It's blinding actually, rattled me to the very core. I've never felt anything like it."

"I have no doubt you're right. I think the whole thing is some grand experiment to him."

The thought of the Blood taking control of Ushuaia was a frightening one. If he was the 'more powerful host' she was referring to, then it didn't matter who was there to stop the blood. In his estimation, a Blood Phoenix could not be stopped, and it's power would rival the Gods. He let his silent fear go unsaid. There was no use worry about that. If it happened, it didn't matter what they did to try and stop it.

I need to find a way to master these abilities. There is a coming battle that I can do nothing about unless I find a way to learn and grow...

"I don't imagine she wants to be saved at all. From her own words, and by her own admission, she thinks she can control it and harness it for her own desires. I will admit that it scares me a little, but then I remember what happened against Marcus. The power of the Protective spirit turned the tide against Marcus that day. It can and will happen again if need be. I'm not unconcerned about it, I just think we have bigger fish to fry. If the Mer is not appeased somehow, there won't be anything for Callara to control."

The mention of his grandfather brought a wry smile to his face.

"Gerben is waiting and watching and biding his time. Whatever happened to separate the power into the four parts has also bound their involvement. I know with certainty that he is aware of your burgeoning powers, but he and Ushuaia can only be involved indirectly. They cannot interfere directly with what is to come."

"Your idea to bring them together is a good one, but I believe it needs to be taken a step past what you have suggested. Perhaps its time for all four parts to be reunited."

He let the implications sink in as he sipped his tea.

A concerned frown appeared upon Alexandrya's lips. "Would that be wise? I would imagine that they can all sense each other's abilities but what if Callara appears in this moment? Would they be strong enough against her, or will we be endangering all of them?"

Her mind raced as she thought of the possibilities, good and bad. She did not quite understand what would happen if they pulled all of the elemental beings together in one meeting, just to have the Blood Storm appear and destroy them all at once, if it could.

"Are you willing to risk that? Are you willing to lose Angelica if this goes wrong? Will they be willing as well? It seems that each has their own personal reactions to this entire situation. Gerben sits and waits, Angelica is doing what she can but slowly getting weaker. The Mer is upset that she isn't receiving enough tribute, and Ushuaia seemingly trying to be the puppeteer to Callara and the blood storm. Does this sound like a bunch that is ready to fight this power?" Alexandrya knew that Motley would probably not know how to answer half of her questions but it sort of brought her mind to the forum for them to unfold.

It was difficult not to pace at a time like this, and instead she too sipped her tea to calm her nerves.

"The four aspects seem fiercely independent of one another. They would need good cause to unite once more. Wise or not, I think it might be the only way to resolve the struggles between them."

He arched an eyebrow at her word of caution regarding Callara.

"Your point about Callara is well taken. Perhaps forcing them together at this time would merely cause chaos and further enmity."

He set his cup down, and traced its edge with a slender fingertip.

"Your words of caution strike deep within me Alazandra. I fear my thoughts and plans have been far too rash and headstrong. It would seem that your caution and patience are far more valuable here."

"I don't want to expose Angelica to any unnecessary risk. The spirit within her would grow weaker and weaker like a dying flame if she continues along this path. Eventually she would fail and fall..."

He trailed off sadly, full of melancholy quiet at the thought of her light being extinguished. He was quiet for a few flickers, and when he began again, his voice was mournful and quiet.

"What we need to save her isn't here. Gerben and Ushuaia, the Mer and Angelica. They all cannot interfere. That includes teaching us what we need to learn. That knowledge, that power, resides elsewhere and it must be brought here, or we need to go to it. Angelica must be protected, sheltered and hidden from those who would do her harm."

His bulbous chin lifted so that he might look deep in to Alazandra's eyes.

"You've spoken with the Mer. Touched her presence. She has remained hidden for a long time. A long time with few, if any, knowing where she was, or if she still existed at all. This is what we need for Angelica. She needs that kind of quiet sanctuary, far from others that would kill her. Will you protect her for me? Will you take her to the Mer and shield her from Callara?"

His eyes dropped in shame.

"I cannot do it myself. I'm not strong enough. I cannot stay here and watch her fade into oblivion. I need to seek out a way to rise against them. Some way not found here. A new power, a new path so that when the time comes, they cannot defend against it. They know the power of this place far better than we ever could. I need some other power, some other weapon to fight them with."

A look of sympathy flashed but was gone as the silver-haired achadhiel gazed upon Motley's face. she leaned over and lifted his chin in hopes that their eyes would meet again.

"This is all very difficult for all of us, more so for you and I because we are aware of what is going on. Mainly, my concern is that there are no answers that are readily available. I will do my best to protect Angelica while you are gone to see answers, but I think most times she protects us. I wonder how she would react with the Mer so close. If we decided on a walk along the beach, if she will fear it or embrace it."

A small smile appeared as she continued to gaze upon Motley, "I am here to help, and I know you are here to help Angelica and protect the people of Roque. I am very frightened to what is in store for us for the future, but I hope I am willing to do whatever it takes to stop this evil from engulfing us all."

Then mention of leaving Roque saddened her, as if she had already lost an ally. Alexandrya leaned back and took another sip, "What are your thoughts on piecing this puzzle together? We will need to find this power to protect ourselves against the blood storm, against Callara if that is the only way and no other place will harbor the key. If anything we need to prevent Callara's mentor from falling into this. I would like to have a talk with Ushuaia as well as the other 3 again. I think first order would re-unite wind and water. What would you do while you are away?"

Motley was an ugly little thing, and nothing if not subject to the intense gaze of a beautiful woman. Her grace and strength reminded him to find his own.

"That's just it. She is protecting us. But at what cost? If she continues to burn and burn and burn while protecting this city, eventually she will burn out. The spirit is strong, and always willing, but the flesh it inhabits is that of a little girl. A child. The spirit wants more than she can give. She'll die if she continues on this way."

"I wonder how she would react with the Mer so close. If we decided on a walk along the beach, if she will fear it or embrace it."

He kept quiet on this for a few moments before he answered. He actually considered the ramifications of this and shared his thoughts with her.
"
"That is a very good idea I am thinking. It might serve both purposes equally. The Mer may want to increase her power by protecting the spirit, and it would make her feel more involved and a part of things and less ignored. She might wish to merge with the spirit herself, or choose an avatar of her own. Angelica has been the Air spirit and the protective spirit for many yahren now. Perhaps the power should rotate to another discipline...

... It might also help if Angelica has less to do. Perhaps she could conserve her power for the important things, and be better able to fend off larger and more dangerous threats."

"You have a good plan already, I don't need to interfere with it. Gerben is keen to assist, but will be difficult to convince to do anything directly. Ushuaia is nasty and foul tempered, but I don't think he's bent on letting everything burn while he does nothing. Callara is the biggest unknown. She may yet surprise us all and master the thing itself, although I find her desire to do so sorely lacking. She must be thwarted as much as possible from using that power, and trying to get the Mer and Angelica to work together might be the best way to accomplish that."

"What would you do while you are away?"

There was another thoughtful pause before Motley replied. At first he was hesitant to give insight into his thoughts on this matter, but after Alazandra's words of caution sunk in, he decided it might be prudent to let someone know where he was and what he intended to do. If something happened to Angelica, she would need to know where he was.

"A few yahren ago, I was traveling in different parts of the kingdom. I found myself in World's Mouth, where one night I performed in a tavern not far from the Ghaeran College. In the crowd that night was a mister Tuvorin. After my performance, Tuvorin and I had a long conversation where he mentioned several of his students, but spoke specifically about a student by name, an Elvin Motrice. He mentioned that Elvin was inclined to arts both sorcerous and legerdemain. A few days later, when I asked about him in World's Mouth, it was said that he was in the Citadel, the capital of the Empire. I am going to seek him out and try and learn whatever it is I need to know to not only fight the Red Storm, but whatever magic is needed to reunite these shattered fragments and heal the rift between them. I don't know if mister Motrice is still in the Citadel, but the University of Magic is there as well, and someone might be able to teach me if he is not."

The grey eyes never wavered on the ugly little face. She listened with concern and interjected . "I do not know if the spirit will let the body die or if the body is already dying and being sustained by the spirit." She murmured softly. Alexandrya did not know what was the truth but there was so much theory that it made her mind whirl. Motley seemed certain of himself so she did not argue with him on her thoughts but one never knows how these things will turn out. She listened intently and nodded. "It often times confused me why no other discipline has stepped in as a guardian of the city. Why does it rest solely on air?"

Alexandrya did not expect an answer but a path started to show itself. "If with Angelica's permission, we shall make a trip to visit the Mer and see what happens. Then I shall visit Gerben and Ushuaia."

After Motley explained where he will be while he was gone, she felt some hope and gave a small smile. "I hope you find what you seek, Motley. To have a college of sorts here would be just as amazing but perhaps you will find the answers you seek visiting other places to prevent what is coming. I wish you speed and protection while on your journey."

She drank the rest of her tea to collect the rest of her thoughts. "When do you leave, and will you leave Angelica with me until your return?"

"It often times confused me why no other discipline has stepped in as a guardian of the city. Why does it rest solely on air?"

"It is perhaps the answer to that very question that might be the answer to solving all of this."

Motley nodded along in satisfaction as Alazandra spoke of taking Angelica to the Mer.

"You know Gerben. He will assist in whatever way he can, but don't lean on him too dearly. I would hate for you to rely too much on any one thing. Balance seems to be the key here, so stay open to all any of them have to offer."

Motley stared at the tea leaves in the bottom of his cup looking for an omen or a sign. He'd heard that wizards in the east could divine from tea leaves. He swallowed the last of it thinking old wife's tales could make anything sound fun and interesting. All he saw was some used leaves in the bottom of a cup.

"There is nothing here that can show me the path. And even if there were, its far too well known for ones like us to change. There is old magic here, and a great deal of it. But they know it all already. Its like trying to tell someone about the bumps in a road when they are a day ahead of you. They have all the answers already. The only thing I can see working, is to bring something back they have not foreseen or know about. Something they cannot expect or have defenses built up against already."

Sad and frustrated resignation marred his brutish features and tears brimmed in his eyes. He reached into his pocket and fished out the key to his small house and held it out for her.

"Immediately. I have spoken with her about it and let her know what is to come. Her things are at my house. Please use it as much or as little as you want. Only one other besides you and Angelica knows where it is, so it should serve as a good place to hide for a while. She cannot leave the city, and I cannot stay..."

He broke off, choked up and overcome with emotion. When he managed to compose himself, he started again.

"City officials and others have tried to abduct her twice already. Stay leery of them. Stay vigilant and alert and..."

He trailed off again, realizing he was telling her what to do and how to do it.

"If you keep this sacred treasure safe, I promise when I return, I will spend the remainder of my days repaying you."

A gentle nod of acknowledgement was given regarding the balance needed to be maintained. It made sense to her, but she silently wondered what ripped them apart in the first place.

A slender hand received the key that Motley offered. The instructions were taken in, a small frown appeared at the mention of her being kidnapped. "Has a motive been found about why these attempted kidnappings keep taking place? Did you ask them what types of officials they were, or what their names were?"

She saw the sadness and frustration on Motley's face and his eyes seemed to sparkle with tears. Alexandrya leaned down and hugged the small man and kissed him on the cheek. "I will do what I can to protect her. I am not much right now, but perhaps when you come back, more answers will readily be available. Or strength to fight this monster. Please tell Angelica I will come for her so she is not frightened. As for repaying me, it is not necessary. Getting back safe, and protecting us from this evil is repayment enough." Despite all things she still managed a reassuring smile.

"I imagine that you have a lot to do to prepare for this trip. I will need to do some things as well. Angelica could stay here, it is secure with Jonah's help."

"I don't know of any names, they did not give them, and I was too intent on stopping them to ask at the time. They told me I didn't understand how the city was being run, and to be quite honest, they were correct. I suspect they are trying to get to her because they know she is the protective spirit, or at the very least connected to it. That is why it's so imperative that she stays safe from them. They know something about the spirit, and they know they can get to it from her."

He reached to set the cup down on the table, but his shaking hands betrayed him and it took more effort and concentration on his part than he would have liked.

"She knows you will be coming for her at my home. She is there now, resting and preparing herself. I have already said my goodbye to her. I'm leaving for the portal straight from here. All my preparations are done now that I've spoken with you, and you have consented to watch over her."

There was one last thing, something she needed to know.

"There is one more thing, something important. We may potentially have another ally in this fight. I cannot say for sure at this time, but it is possible and it important for you to know. One of the reasons I came home was to find myself. That may sound a bit strange, but I will explain. For all of my life, I have been the Motley, and never known the truth of who I truly am. I did some research, and found that I have a half brother of sorts. His name is Ceadric. Ceadric Schattendrachen. The Schattendrachen family is wealthy and influential in the city, and the patriarch sits on the city council if I'm not mistaken. Ceadric and I were switched at birth, his birth mother was actually mine, and mine was actually his. We are not truly related, but we are somehow brothers just the same. Although the circumstances of our births is strange and complicated, he was friendly to me and welcomed my presence. If things were to get dire, and you had no one else to turn to, seek him out. He knows my true name, and it would be the only way he could know for certain that you know me. My true name is Caswyk. It could be a code word for you with him to gain his trust. I honestly don't know if he would or could help you, but perhaps in a last resort, you might find out."

He sighed heavily, trying to regain his composure. He stood and brushed the front of his jacket.

"I cannot thank you enough. It means the world to me that you would take this on. I will return as soon as possible. Don't get up, I'll let myself out."

He walked over to the door and turned back to take in her face once more. A single tear ran down his cheek.

"Thank you." He whispered, his voice choked off with grief and worry. he let himself out and made his way into the streets.

OOC: Thanks Alex!
