A nasty grin split the tall man's face as the great lizard Hah. Told ya so. Ruin my sword will ya? That'll teach ya. Took him a moment to decide what to do. Tossing the sword aside. I'll get another. Damned demons cost me too much in swords. For just a fraction of the flicker he pondered head butting the Netheric creature, but thought better of it. It would feel good up until the impact. Then it would hurt. So, rather not. If the sword could not pierce the creature's skin, Gavin hardly could hope that his head might damage it. Oh, he was stubborn alright, but nobody had that thick a skull. Well maybe she has, but probably not. Even she is not that stubborn. But, she came very close.

Instead he did the next best thing. Taking a not so careful aim, he stomped the lizard right between the eyes. Not truly aiming and letting his frustration take over and drain away, the big man kept on stomping the poor things head. Take that. And that. And that. Ohh, and this. And one more. And so on. The sword Yin threw sailed through the air and clanged against Gavin's armor. "What the....." He is running away? Damned coward. Well, at least he left me his sword. Hearing was not something Gavin did well just then. He was too engrossed in stomping that ugly thing to death. Sword would help. Picking the steel implement of death in both hands, he grinned evilly and stopped stomping, only to start banging the sword over the creatures head. He did not truly count, but it could not have been less than ten or so swing. Finally getting tired, he shifted his grip on the sword and aimed the tip at the spot right between the lizard's eyes. And brought it down with all the strength he could muster. If this don't kill ya, I'll need to get me a big rock. Yeah, that should work.

The achadhiel didn't answer Yin's response to her cry for help. She didn't have the time to. She hoped he would get here in time to rescue her, but as the monkey to her left grabbed her arm and pulled the pole arm out of the way, she was afraid that time was something she didn't have.

So instead, she did the only thing she could. She dove to the right, aiming her head at the flying creature coming in to that side, hoping to hit him and throw him off balance, just as she was hoping that her movement would either cause the one holding her to loosen his grip or be drawn off balance himself.

If her ploy helped her gain her freedom, she planned to run. Run hard and run fast in Yin's direction. After all, that's what men, particularly fighters, were for, right? To rescue the damsel in distress? Jayla thought of herself as a damsel and she was pretty distressed.

If her change of direction didn't help get her out of the monkeys grasps, then she planned to fight dirty. Kick. Hit. Punch. Whatever it took for the beasts to release her with the least amount of damage to herself. She had no idea where these things would take her, but only two things were certain in the young achadhiel's mind. They wouldn't be taking her out of this hell, and wherever they would take her would be less pleasant than where she stood now.

*clunk* The sword hit Gavin's armor without doing any damage. The large reptile was dazed, sagging through all limbs. Whatever plans Yin might have for the lizard, they were thoroughly destroyed by the force of the bearded man's blows, which hit the beast between the eyes time and time again. If that wasn't enough, he picked up the sword and brought it down, tip first.

With a satisfying crunch it went through the bone and lodged itself in what had to be the creature's brain. Death was instanteneous, all muscle tension gone in one flicker.

Now that the immediate threat was gone, it was Gavin's muscles that started to burn from exhaustion.

Meanwhile the paladin hurried towards the poor besieged girl. The monkeys were flapping around her, teeth bared and nails ready to grab her when she got distracted. Jayla dove to the right, impacting with the incoming attacker and pushing it back for a few precious flickers. The other screeched and renewed it's attack, this time aiming lower while the girl sped as fast as she could towards Yin.

These flying nuisances were fast! Glaring red eyes seemed to light up for a single moment and...

WHOoooooooooosh!

Fire came from an opened mouth, singeing Jayla's hair on ends. The other monkey got ready to release it's fiery surprise.

The boy ran for the girl, his legs were still aching from his previous injury, though the adrenaline pumping through him kept his brain from realizing it. When he was saw the fire he moved to cover her with his body, shielding her from the fire. His armor could take more punishment then her clothing. His helmet and plates should keep him mostly safe, mostly.

He would cover her with his body and lead her to the beast he left with Gavin. “Are you alright?” He asked as soon as she was with him. He hoped she was not hurt badly and the concern carried over in his voice.

The fire was certainly a surprise. Jayla could feel the heat of it closing in on her as she ran. She didn't take the time to look behind her, convinced that she would be in a lot more pain if she had actually been on fire. Anything that had gotten burned would have to wait until later to be taken care of.

Then she saw Yin running in her direction, closing in on her. She hadn't expected him to cover her the way he had, but then again, she hadn't expected fire either. She hadn't expected any of this.

She was breathing heavily under the young man, partly from fear and partly from her all-out run. She wasn't used to such physical exertion. It took her a moment to parse his question as she looked up at him, wide-eyed. Unconsciencely, she licked her lips before answering. "They... They breath fire. What ARE they?" she asked. That question was more important to the achadhiel lass than her own state of being. She glanced out from where she lay, trying to catch a glimpse of the abominations.

She shivered slightly, a delayed fear reaction. Her hazel eyes returned quickly to Yin's. "Promise me you'll keep them away from me," she begged in a whisper.

The crunch of lizards skull sent shivers up Gavin's spine. He truly enjoyed the death of that beast. A mad grin was pasted on his face as his eyes turned in search of something else to help vent his anger. Then the scream came and his eyes shot in that direction ."Now what?" Catching sight of the monkeys, the tall man felt his anger rising again. Bloody great. Well, I guess you die too. The simple fact that he had no way of reaching them with his sword did nothing to Gavin. Fueled by anger he was focused upon one purpose now. Kill the monkeys.

Bringing his eyes to the ground briefly he sought something, anything that he could throw at the monkeys. A rock would do. A battered helmet would do. A skull would do. Anything he judged light enough to be able to chuck at monkeys, yet heavy enough to inflict some real damage. Should anything suitable be found, Gavin had a plan. It was simple, born out of sheer rage and frustration. Chuck whatever he held in his hand at a monkey and hit it with a bit of luck. Then as it plummets to the ground, run to it and whack it with a sword. He made no sound as he moved. He was too angry to scream. He just needed to kill the monkeys and he would be okay. Or perhaps he would need to kill some more after that.

WHOOOOSH!

Another breath of fire surrounded Yin like a blanket wrapped around a child. This time, however, the child was a young man, intent on protecting the young lady that was being targeted. It was unpleasant, to say the least, the metal of his armour soaking up the momentary heat with every blast.

It was their rescue that the blasts were short and intense, rather than long term exposure. Hair singed, breath was taken away, something was smoldering about Jayla's bag of belongings.

WHOOOOOOOOOOSH!

The other monkey decided to throw in it's dime and joined in the insane fireworks until a rock hit it square in the head, sending it to the ground while Yin and Jayla ran back to the strange lizard that Gavin had put down for good.

Obviously Gavin had done a bit more than that, as it was his hand that had sent the rock flying towards the monkeys. One was decidedly secure on the ground, the other did not like what it saw and screeched, aiming for the bearded man this time.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!

A long breath, granting the other two the time to get back to the rock formation behind which the lizard had been hiding. Yet Gavin was now in plain sight, the flames able to reach him within precious flickers unless he was going to act on it.

As the fire engulfed Yin and Jayla Gavin ran. Not to save them, but to kill the monkeys. That was all that mattered to him now. He did not even wince at the sight as they disappeared from sight. His eyes did fall on the monkey that spewed flames at the pair. You die first. Then the other one follows. Now, stand still. This will hurt a lot. But, what the Hell, you will make me feel better. And then he let the stone fly. It was a jagged piece of debris and it wobbled and rolled as it flew through the air.

Then there was the yell of triumph. "YEEEEEES!" It hit. Right in the head. Running towards the fallen simian, he was already gripping the sword to deal the killing blow, when he saw the movement from the edge of his vision. A long gout of flame snaked towards him as he ran. "Shit!" Switching his grip on the sword once more, the big man dove for the ground, covering his head with his hands. Not the beard. Just not the beard. Singe my beard and you die. Bloody Hell, you die anyway.

Once more his anger filled brain formed a simple plan. If he managed to survive the monkey's flaming breath, the big man would run to the fallen monkey's corpse and grab it by the tail. A few good spins and he should be able to send it flying towards it's buddy. Hopefully hitting the fire breathing monstrosity or at least distracting him till Gavin could get himself another rock to throw. You are dead, little bastard. Oh, you are so dead. Don't touch the beard.

Yin led the woman to safety, which was his first priority. In the back of his mind he wondered if he would have any hair left after this was all done. His armor was warm, like an oven, the bursts of fire were starting to make him feel cooked.

When he ducked around the rocks to get her cover he took a moment to pat out anything that was burning. His body was aching all over; the pain from his wounds was pushed down with the excitement of what was happening, but for how much longer was the question.

He was growing tired, and his body wanted to shut down, to quit and get rest. He had to push, to carry on, that was his duty, and he could not fail in that.

He looked at Gavin. “He is a mad man.” He commented to Jayla. “I should help him.” He said as he stood and grabbed his sword. “Keep safe.” He said with a smile and turned to head out to help the crazed man.

"Oh no! Nonononono!" Jayla stomped on the bag, trying her best to extinguish any fire that may cause damage to the clothing within. "I will NOT let anything happen to this before I have a chance to return them to the Mistress. Absolutely not."

Only when the smouldering subsided would she allow Yin to lead her away to safety. However, when he tried to leave her there so he could rush in to Gavin's assistance once more, she shook her head emphatically. "I'm not staying here. Not alone. The last time I was alone, THOSE things attacked me." She waved angrily at the firey attackers. "Who knows what's going to come after me next. I'm staying with you." And, regardless of the paladin's wishes, she kept herself within easy striking distance.

This benighted place was really starting to affect her reason.

Yin pulled the short sword free. He would have to give her a quick lesson on fighting. “Stay close. I will open them up; you have to make the killing stroke, just stab sharp and hard under my blade. Keep behind me and shout if anything tries to get behind us.”

He nodded and held out his hand. “Ready to get in the muck?” He asked.

When going out to fight, he kept his back close to her. He tried to move with her, to work as a team, shouting out what he saw and what was going on. He had worked with others in a fight before, but not with anyone as untrained as her. He would try to block or engage the monkey, then open the beast up for her to make a deadly thrust into the beast from behind him. It meant he would have to let the beast get very close to him, but it was a risk he had to take.

Jayla took the offered sword, her hand trembling. he only sharp pointy thing she'd ever held had been the kitchen knives when she would polish the silver.

She listened carefully to Yin's instructions and nodded her understanding. Holding the blade with two hands, she followed the Paladin closely. The real difficulty would be trying to split her attention between the fighting she would have to do and keeping watch for whatever may come behind them. Visions of accidentally spearing her protector while she was distracted filled her mind. Forcefully, she pushed them away before they could become a reality.

And if nothing else could be said of the girl, she did try. There was no finesse in her strokes. But as long as she didn't hit Yin and she did hit the monkey, she didn't care. Whenever there was a flicker's lull, she would glance over her shoulder, praying to the One God that they wouldn't have anthing else to deal with.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!

The fire singed Gavin's beard...Of course it did. The monkey even grinned as the big man's facial hair started to smell like a bonfire. Meanwhile Jayla's bag was looking rather blackened. Chances were that the clothes inside were okay, but rather smelly by now.

As Jayla and Yin moved in, the first monkey went down by a flying stone. They were a little behind Gavin as the man grabbed a tail and swung the lifeless monkey around like a Faire-game aimed at winning a prize!

The monkey flew out of his hands, straight into the other who in turn catapulted towards the two One-ists. The instructions the paladin gave were all nice and useful, but how effective were they going to prove against the full body weight of a flying monkey coming their way at full speed!

There was no time to do anything but react to the incoming target, no time to scout the surroundings for new threats. They had to act or be bowled over.

Yes, Jayla had promised to stay close to Yin, to keep watch and to thrust at the monkey as they fought it. But seeing it flying not under it's own power straight for her head... the girl did the only thing she could think of to do.

She ducked.

Huddling on the ground with her knees pressed into her stomach, the sword forgotten at her side, she clutched her hands above her head, praying wildly to the One God.

Yin cocked the sword back and swung once it was near. He had played a game called rounders where you hit a ball with a stick, and this would be the same thing. He prepared to hit the beast with the blade, to knick it away or cleft it in two.

He heard the prayer of Jayla and made a note to talk to her about this. For right now, however, he had to monkey to hit.

As the smell of burning hair reached his nostrils, Gavin was beyond rage. That's IT? No more mister nice guy. I foresee a lot of pain in the rest of your life, monkey. All six flickers of it. And wit that thought he rose, and picked the other simian, and started spinning. His hands complained, but he cared not. With blind rage, he threw the monkey towards its airborne mate. This should wipe that grin of your face, bastard. Eat monkey ass, monkey boy. And then he let go, running towards it, even before he stopped spinning himself.

As the monkeys hurled down towards Yin and Jayla, something followed. Something angry and very much bent on murder. Gavin gripped the sword and pushed himself to the limit, running towards the monkeys very intent on ending their lives. Somewhere deep within, he knew that in his rage he would probably kill them quickly, when they should suffer, but right now he needed to kill them. Just to calm down a bit. To make sure they suffered like his beard suffered.
