Troth: Selling Skins

Post by Ashe de`HeiBjort »

Ashe hoisted the bundle of skins higher onto her back as she entered the Trade Hall's great doors. The weather was suprisingly plesant, sun high and little wind. Still cold as death, but plesant. She smiled, looking around at the bustle of business. How people could work every day so close to this many people was beyond her. Pausing momentarily, she looked around for a clothier or an armourer. They usually would buy her skins at a good price, as she knew what she was doing when it came to skinning animals. Tanners would buy her skins, but could always barter her down to a small price.

To her left, she saw a group of Jofrio men gathered, one showing off his craftsmanship with a pair of kidskin gloves he'd made for his daughter.
"See, they're lined with rabbit fur, too, so she'll never go cold in these. And they fit her perfectly, too," he bragged, and the other men surrounding him nodded in appreciation.

OOC: Please see my PM when you can. Until then, we will continue on despite the issues I've addressed in this first post.

The Trade Hall loomed before Ashe. One of the largest buildings in Rimmerhold, it was a large circular tent with a domed roof in a convenient location in the heart of the settlement. Inside smoldering braziers keep the temperature comfortably warm, warmer than most areas in Trothgard out of consideration for the numerous outsiders who visit here and are unaccustomed to the biting cold of the Northern wastes.

Banners representing each of the clans of Trothgard hung from the center of the hall, with additional banners representing the various cities and settlements of the Seven Isles and beyond with whom Trothgard has had trading contact.

Some of the banners were still new, their colors rich and bold; others were older, their colors faded and edges frayed. Some represented the oldest and best-known trading families of Dort, who seemed to have been running the commerce of Tazlure since the dawn of time; others were unfamiliar to most casual onlookers, representing once-powerful families that have now slipped into memory as their power and fortune waned, the only reminder of their once-great eminence a tattered cloth in a Northern hall.

There was always a busy hum of chatter in several languages within the trade hall, and new arrivals are barely noticed as the traders from all over go about their business, some hawking their wares and ideas with strident voices; others preferred to do business in small, discreet bunches along the edges of the building, their voices low.

Nearly anything could be found here, any sort of adventure or good, if one knew who to ask, and how to ask for it; but the ring of Trothgardian warriors, armed to the teeth and looking formidable, that line the walls, serve as a reminder that there are some ventures and some commodities which the people of Trothgard frown upon -- and will do anything to prevent.

It was a young woman named Lielle da`Jofrio that met with Ashe inside the warm Trade Hall. In the small settlement of Rimmerhold, names and faces were well known to one another. Lielle's brother was killed in an accident not long ago, and it was well known that Lielle and her sisters were still taking his death very hard. Despite that recent tragedy, she greeted Ashe warmly.

"Peace of the fallen snow be with you Ashe de`HeiBjort. Do you something you wish to barter with today.
