A meeting with the Captain (Chyril 22nd TT)

Post by Guest »

The newly promoted corporal marched his way down the hallways of the Imperial Guard headquarters. His face was cleanly shaved and hair was brushed and neatly tied in a ponytail, leaving two strands of hair on each side of his face. He wore his standard issued uniform and proudly displayed his two bastard swords, housed in their black sheaths, ready to be drawn if necessary. Each step ricocheted clicks from his boots of the walls, like a fine paced metronome.

Rozz was on his way to meet with Captain Summers, who had also just been promoted from Sergeant. Why was the achadhiel on his way to meet with his superior? There was an issue that had been bothering him... a certain man called the Seaside Slayer. The real Seaside Slayer had been caught, hanged, and burned, that much was certain, but recently there have been a series of other murders that the citizens have come to believe was the ghost of the Seaside Slayer. Rozz wanted permission to lead an investigation of these murders and bring the murderer to justice.

As Rozz approached the door, he gave a knock and entered. He didn't know what to expect Captain Summers to say, but it was well worth requesting... for the good of everyone that shared the city he lived in. The Imperial Guard stood at attention and gave a salute to the captain and said with a firm military voice. "Corporal Manaida to request an audience with you, sir!"

His chest was puffed out and his feet firmly planted on the floor as if a tornado could not topple him over. Every muscle was solid and attentive in the presence of his superior. Rozz had learned much since he joined the Imperial Guards, and he was proud to show off his pride and loyalty to his military family.

Captain was just strapping up, donning his finest uniform as a young serveant helped him get every kink and crease out of the white tabard. A quick glance over his shoulder confirmed Rozz's identity and as a move of the Captain's chin invited the young man in. "Be quick about it, lad. His Imperial Majesty is attending the wedding of former Captain Ulder Synkaaros and I'm part of the escort. But, I got a few burns to spare. What can I do for you?" The boy picked up the cloak and brought it to the Captain, who snatched it from his eyes and wrapped it about his shoulders himself. The stripes were there, but he was still a Sergeant in heart.

The young soldier cleared his throat and eased up slightly before making his request. "Well, sir, it's about the two Seaside Slayer copycat murders. I'd like to ask for your permission to allow me to investigate these murders and bring the murderer to justice." Rozz was blunt and straight forward. He needn't butter up the captain to get what he wanted, he figured his dedication he had shown in his previous assignments were testament enough to his abilities.

Why the achadhiel wanted to partake in this investigation? The Imperial Guard believed in just that. He was a guard and the only way he could protect the innocent was to take away the evil that threatened them. This was also a mission to show the Captain that Rozz was ready for other responsibilities. He would not let Captain Summers or Citadel down.

Rozz's words caused Captain Summers to arch a brow and glance over his shoulder, before waving the boy off. "Leave us. I can finish dressing up on my own." The boy nodded and bowed silently, and made his way out, the door clicking shut behind him. The Captain rechecked his image in the mirror and then motioned towards a chair before his desk. "Take a seat, Corporal, and tell me more about these murders and why you want to get involved? I am aware of them and one of the reasons I ask is because they happened out of our jurisdiction. That's City Watch territory and last time Purple Guards went there a thousand people died in the Riots and the Purples were disbanded. So, why do you think you would do a better job than the Blues?"

Rozz nodded and sat in the chair across the desk from the captain when it was offered. He felt more relaxed now and comfortable, as if he could speak to the captain as a friend, but still Rozz kept all formalities and sat up straight in his chair.

"Sir, the City Watch is still at square one with these murders, but I feel as though they are wasting time on this issue. It's true the murders happened out of our jurisdiction, but how long until we have them spread into our side. This won't be working against the City Watch... it's more like working together to solve an issue that could be potentially hazardous to everyone." The young Imperial Guard replied. He sat forward and continued. "I understand if you refuse my request, sir, but I just want you to know that I can and will solve these murders... I've been studying each one from the real Seaside Slayer to the copycat... history always repeats itself." Rozz sat back and kept a sincere look on his face. Whatever the outcome may be, Captain Summers held it in his hands.

It was not easy to read Captain's emotions as he sat and listened to Rozz, SUmers' arms crossing before his chest and creasing the freshly pressed uniform. "No, I won't forbid you. But you will have to work alongside the City Watch. Convince them to take you on and have you help them solve this problem. While I see little danger in the murders spreading to Patrician's Ring I would still prefer if the Slayer was caught." He pulled a fresh sheet of paper and wrote a few lines upon it, sealing it with the official Imperial Guard seal. "This is my permission for you to conduct the investigation within the lines set by the City Watch. SHow it to whomever they send you to when you arrive. And good luck."
