Amber followed Envergine closely, unwilling to get separated from the only familiar face on the entire ship. She breathed deeply in relief as they moved out into the open, away from the cramped interior spaces. She was a farmgirl, afterall, and she'd grown up in the wide open spaces. She preferred the forests and fields to anything else.
She flinched as Envergine held out the baton, then blushed as she realized it was being offered to her, not attempting to smack her. She hesitated, then reached out to take hold of it. She wondered how the other woman was going to demonstrate the tactic.

Envergine frowned as it took Amber more than a flicker to remove the baton from her hand. When she finally took it, she gave a small snort. Amber would find the rod had more weight than it appeared, focused mainly towards the top. The grip was wrapped in soft leather, giving it a better grip.
"The object of the baton is to incapacitate your opponent. This is a weapon that requires skill and finesse. You don't just go around beating on every idiot because if you hit them wrong, they're dead and sometimes, you don't want them dead," she said, pulling a dagger out of her sleeve and brandishing it toward Amber.
"Aim for my forearm, but lightly," she said.

Amber had spent plenty of time chasing her brothers around with sticks while she was growing up, and she'd been chased plenty of times in return. Somehow, she figured this was going to be quite a bit different. She listened to Envergine's instructions, and took careful note of them. After all, she doubted it would go very well for her if she accidentally hurt the woman.
She took a strong grip of the baton, shifting it until it felt balanced correctly in her hand, then readied herself. As Envergine made a mock attack with the dagger, she stepped to one side and swung the baton. It was a light attack, but the baton was heavier than she had planned for, and her strike ended up with significantly more momentum than she'd wanted.

Amber never connected with Envergine, the woman trained on the weapon in the red-head's hand. They continued to work, moving and slashing, no bodily contact made. For a good several burns, they worked. Envergine pointing out changes in Amber's stance, wrist, foot work, each one meant to teach the girl how to use it. She also showed her on a dummy how to use the baton to incompacitate from behind and even a killing blow.
Then, it was over. Amber was allowed to remain onboard, up on deck, practicing, without guard or watch. If she so desired, she could leave. The woman told her that the room she had been in was her's, if she wished to remain.

When Envergine left, Amber continued to practice for several minutes longer. She was determined to succeed, and she figured that anything she could do to avoid Envergine's disappointment could only benefit her. After awhile though, she looked up, and noticed that she had been left alone. For a moment, she eyed the sides of the ship, but then shook her head. Even if she jumped overboard, where would she go? She didn't want to risk being hunted, either.
Finally, she finished practicing. She tucked the baton away in the waist of her pants, and went below decks again. She didn't return to her room, though. She was curious, and she wanted to see more of the ship. As soon as she had entered the hatch they'd first come out of, she went the opposite direction than the one she knew her room to be in.

As Amber headed down the opposite hall, the sounds of sex for sale would soon meet her ears. There were moans and gasps and grunts and laughter. Squeeking matresses and creaking headboards. One room she passed, she heard a feminine voice say, "Oh, love, now that's down right disgusting. That'll run you a crown."
The voices faded, though, as she reached the end of the hall. What now reached her was the scent in the air. It was a bit acrid, though as she moved on, Amber would note a calmness taking over.

Amber winced to herself as she moved down the hall, listening to all the sounds that escaped through the thin doors and walls. She'd never heard someone having sex before, nor had she ever been in a brothel, but even in her innocence, she knew what was going on. She forcefully stamped down her curiosity, curiosity that urged her to open some of those doors and see what exactly was going on. She certainly didn't need that sort of thing on her mind right now!
She paused as the strange scent caught her nose, and sniffed at it curiously. "Strange," she muttered. "Never smelled anything like that before." She kept moving, intrigued by the strange feeling of calmness that was sweeping through her. It was pleasant though, and she wasn't alarmed in the least. She wondered if she could find the source of this odd aroma.
