University of Magic - Entrance Thread

Post by Lugh »

When looking at the University of Magics, one cannot help but wonder if the wizards *have* found a way to turn lead into gold. Seventeen spires, coming up from a large dome, streak into the sky, each ending on a golden globe. The structure's walls are made up of smooth black stone, with green, red and golden veins running through it. The entrance, a grand arch, carries the Seventeen Signs, each a show of elaborate craftwork. A large square lies before this grand University, and students of the occult sit here to talk, eat lunch, and play games with each other; more than one game of chess is currently in progress.

The University of Magics has a great reputation to uphold. For ages unknown this institution has trained students as well as providing scholarly wizards with a hiding place. Recently the University of Magics has taken a more active role in the running of the Empire, with a special battle magic department devoted to the defense of the Seven Isles.

Yet, with all this splendor, it seems like the University isn't as busy as it once was meant to be.

Hall of Ages
Once through the grand gate, visitors often stare at the hall in mute wonder. This place is nothing short of impressive, large and aesthetically pleasing. Ahead, stairs lead to the base levels of each of the seventeen spires, and the rest of this place is like a museum. Paintings, sculptures and such make up the more artful of memoirs, but all sorts of items reminding the wizards of their pasts have been put on display here. More toward the back, space has been reserved for those who wish to study.

Off to one side is a medium sized reception desk with a small counter. A thin man with gray hair sits behind it, and smiles at you as you walk in.

Early in the day two applicants approached the grey haired man and begged admittance. One elf claimed to be Trello Narvi and he admits to wanting to learn to use magic for some illict purposes. He has been sent on a tour with Mikhail.

The second, also an elf, named Ashtallion Urdil, wants to learn it all, become an arch-mage if such a thing existed, and is willing to fight with magic.

Trello

The man's eyes narrowed slightly: "Be patient, youngster, everything comes in due time. Learning magics recquires patient and force of will. If you show that less patience I'm afraid that you'll not be allowed to study here. You're now ready for your tour with Mikhail."

He pointed to a man standing in a doorway across the room who Trello assumed to be Mikhail. The subtlest nod of the head was given in greeting, and an invitation to come ask questions was made, though no words were spoken.

OOC: Please proceed to the University of Magic Forum.

Ashtallion

Asht reagrded the man intensly, his eyes burning softly like smouldering embers. "Magic sir....simply magic....in all its forms....healing, the arts of war and magic....all are exhilirating to my mind. I hope to become an Archmage.....a far fetched dream i know, however....dreams push you harder, my dream gives me something to strive for.", he bowed his head gently. "My apologies, i tend to run away with myself when magic lingers in the air....", he smiled softly.

The man focussed his attention on Ashtallion: "Be careful, young sir, the study of magic recquire concentration. If your mind tends to get lost in fantasies dreadfull things can happen." The man smiled: "But what do you want? Do you want to walk a path of war or a path of knowledge? Both have advantages, it only depends on what your interests are. Fighting or knowledge, by knowledge I mean magic in its basic form while fighting concentrates on augmenting your abilities with magic to fight or use magic to fight."

His brow knitted together. Had he thought of this....the Magic of War....the feeling of power....."I'm .....not sure....i suppose i hadn't thought of that aspect. Magic is not to be a futile thing i know, but in War it can help, and destroy.....yes....I would fight with it.", his eyes leveled with the mans, "Do you think i choose wrong?"

The man's face showed no expression: "There is only one who can choose his way and that is you. We offer you the possibility to learn, you stae what it is taht you want to learn..."

Yappet, bakc in his once white robes wandered into the university. Yappet was tired, he would admit but the stuff he had seen, or hadn't seen last night drew him into the building. "Hello" he said to the thin man and Ashtallion "Is this the place to learn... you know...magic?" he whispered the last word like if he said it aloud the world would come crashing down.

Waiting patiently for an answer Yappet's eyes wandered and he almost forgot the two people in front of him as he looked at all the fancy stuff.

Instead of Ashtallion the man behind the desk answered: "Yes, this would be a place to learn magic."

He didn't say anymore and looked back to his paper, filling inthe forms of Trello and Ashtallion.

The man looked up from the forms and starred at Yappet, then shrugged: "How should I know? I'm not a tour guide!"

"Well you've convinced me!" Yappet siad, pushing Ashtallion out of the way. "Let me sign up. Make me magic!" Yappet laid his hands on the counter. If there was a pen or other writing utensil on the desk. He grabbed it, waiting to sign up.

Yappet grabbed one of the pencils in the quil and accidently knocked it over, messing up all the papers on the clerk's desk. The thin man's eyes blazed with fire: "Fool! You know how long it too me to get these forms ready?"
It looked like he was going to hit Yappet with something but he controlled his temper in time: "Besides, every student needs to see the Battle-General before being admitted."
The man began to clean up the spilled ink with a small piece of cloth, that got soaked with ink in no-time. He sighed: "This is not going to work."

Yappet started up the nearest set of stairs while the clerk was distracted. When he saw someone (even a guard) he would ask "Excuse me, where can i find the battling General? I was told to find him here"

The clerk looked up from his cleaning when he heard Yappet's footsteps on the stairs: "Sir, you're not allowed there!"

The more steps Yappet climbid the thicker the air seemed to get, slowing him down...

Yappet continued as far as he could go. Until he couldn't take another step. Then Yappet went down a few steps and charged, still moving extremely slow. Jumping forward to try and reach the step that had perviously eluded him.

Asht appraised the new comer, his eyes widend at the brashness and rude behaviour he seemed to exhibit...but a slight twinge of humour graced his own lips....an act he quickly corrected himself for. Turning to the old man...."Tell me....are the majority of the other students like that? Or is he a one off?"

The clerk looked back at Ashtallion and sighed: "May the Heavens forbid it! This one isn't a student here. I think he's trying to apply. But now back to you: wich Path do you think would suit you the.." He abruptly stopped when he saw Yappet charging "LOOK OUT, FOOL!"

In the meanwhile...

Charging was difficult, the air got so thick that moving was almost impossible but Yappet managed to jumped over the step where he was stopped before and found himself floating in the air.
Before he could look around pretty colours started to dance around him, hypnotising him with their movements.

On the ground..

Ashtallion saw the madman floating in the air, a few feet above the steps, staring the something unseen. The clerk was cursing, something that not many people ever heard him do

Yappet and the lights...

Suddenly the lights disappeared and before Yappet had time to recover from their hypnotising effect surges of electricity shot through his body causing terrible pain and spasms. He passed out for a while and the surges went on, Ashtallion who stood on the ground could see how Yappet's body was tortured by unseen forces and then... he disappeared, the place he just was filled with air with a loud 'plop'.

Back on the ground

"LOOK OUT! MOVE AWAY FROM THE DESK!" the clerk shouted to Ashtallion. The clerk himself ran a few paces backwards.
It took only a few moments before Yappet appeared above the desk, falling right in the pool of ink, still passed out...

Asht was perplexed to say the least. The 'madman'.....the sight of the tortures hardend his face and stomach. His elven grace moved him out of harms way before Yappet crashed onto the desk. "Whats going on.....is he alright?!"

At that moment, Yappet began to moan and moved a bit. The clerk's eyes narrowed: "Yes, he should be alright and I think I've had enough patience. William!"

A big, muscular man appeared from out of a room: "Yes?"

"Would you be so kind to escort this good sir to the exit and request the money needed to repair the damage he has done?"

William simply nodded...

"Hey! let me down!" he exclaimed banging and kicking William 'Did you hear me? let me down!!" he continued to rant a rave and kick until he was outside. Where he was told they wnated money from him.

"If i promise to be nice, will you let me handle this wth the clerky guy?" Yappet asked trying to dart past him.

Asht turned to the old man, a slight look of confusion on his face. "Excuse me...may we continue? Apologies for my rudeness, but I am simply eager."
