A Few Polite Questions: Interrogation of Ashtallion (Sam 19)
Moderator: Mods
"I do not think that a wise course of action." Fenriz replied thoughtfully. "You have attracted the attention of more than just me I feel sure, and they may not be content to simply ask you questions as I have done." Fenriz gathered up the scrolls and put them back in his toolbelt.
"I would suggest keeping you here in protective custody but somehow don't see you going along with that." Fenriz smiled that insincere grin at Ashtallion. "I tell you what. Let Valsert here assign two of the Purple Guard to watch over you. That way, we can all rest easy knowing you are secure from those that might wish to harm you and you will be unfettered in your movements."

Donald heard a mermaid sing, Susy spied an elf,
But all the magic I have known, I've had to make myself.

Val agreed with both mens thoughts. Asht, deserved to return to his home and way of life, yet if somone was attempting dangrous plots agains the Caesar, then every precausion should be taken to insure Asht's safty.
"Fenriz," Val begain, with a slight not to Ashtallion to indicate he knew what he was doing "I agree that Ashtallion must be protected, and the Guard stands ready... However I must insist that I am informed as to what I may expect to encounter. I know such information likly is secret, yet knowing the extent of what should be looked for is nessicary to keep Ashtallion, and the guards properly safe."
Here it comes, the you can not have answers, answer, Val thought as he waited for the lack of information he knew would be comming or better put,not comming..

" Despite the fact I am capable of taking care of myself, gentlemen, after all I am a Battlemage.... ", he paused for a moment, his mind wandering somewhere else briefly, " I will gladly accept the offer of protection. ", a clever word to disguise 'spies'. He smiled lightly in return to Fenriz.
He remained silent again, waiting for Fenriz's response to Valsert.

Val's patients was at its end. The fruitless day spent here with a horrid man and a Honorable prisnor, had finaly wore thin.
"It is good that you will accept it Ashtallion, because YOU have no choice. You can stay here, or return home with the added protection. Considering the depth of these charges, you would be well off to accept any and all help you can find."
Opening the door, Val put out his head and called for his compainions he had left at the entrance.

"You will likely have to protect him from desperate men that will not hesitate to trade to their lives for his should it come to it." Fenriz answered Valsert's question. "People no doubt thinking they are sacrificing themselves for a greater good."
Valsert's call is swiftly answered by the Purple Guard's outside. "Yes, sir?"

Valast understood all to well the importance of protecting Ashtallion even though it was likely against the battle mage’s wishes. Wishes were not a part of duty however, and no matter the task, Val was not going to fail.
“The three of you will shortly be escorting Ashtallion to his quarters†Val said as he made eye contact with the three guards who had assisted in the finding of him.
“You two†he continued, nodding to the twins while wishing he could remember their names. “Will remain with him until you are relieved. There is a chance that trouble will come looking and we must remain prepared.â€
“In the mean time, I will report in to insure the officers know of the situation. Any questions?â€

Ashtallion stood silently while Fenriz and Valsert conversed and called for the Guards to escort him back to the University. He cringed inwardly, wishing to vent his protest at being shadowed constantly by the three brutes of steel and muscle. A battlemage could look after himself, hat idiot would attempt to fight a mage......well, another mage perhaps. Rolling his eyes at his own ignorance, Asht made his way to the door, and through it, turning only once to eye Fenriz and offer a bow his head in respect for the man as a living creature.
Turning again, the mage eyed the three guards, " Do not expect a warm welcome at the University, gentlemen, I doubt my Elder's will appreciate me being followed from class to class and proving to be a distraction to other students as they concentrate on mastering their Art. ", he took a breath, allowig those words to sink in, caring not if they intimidated the men or gave htem pause for hesitation, " I also ask that you do not get my way, I have practical lessons to attend and I would be most aggrieved should one of you end up a smouldering pile of ash. ", he smiled tightly, nodding to Valsert, giving a more open and genuine smile, " Thank you for al your aid, Valsert, it will not be forgotten. "
Was there a offer of repayment in that last statement? A mage was surely in a position to grant some potentially unusal yet highly useful favours. His face turned cold once more as he proceeded to walk from he dungeon, not letting his gaze wander but remain steadfast ahead of himself. Giving off an air of non-chalance, one which he had to maintain a firm grip on least he run screaming for the place of stone and blood.

As the Ashtallion said his peace to the guards, Val remained silent, allowing the man to speak his mind. Yet his words, although from the heart, did not show a full understanding of what trouble may be coming.
Val simply nodded his gratitude for Ashtallions thanks, the last words of which he felt were at least a showing of kindred spirits, if not a friendship in the making. Then with one more nod, to signal the guardsmen to proceed after the Battle Mage, he hesitated thinking of the situation and what he must do next.
If only Ashtallion could understand the possible danger he was truly in. Someone dangerous enough to harm Caesar in front of half the city with none to witness, then how could a lone mage fair any better….
Steeping back inside the room and closing the door, Val rounded on Fenriz. A strained half smile was forced on his face, but power and determination were clearly in his eyes. He tryed to let his dislike for the man before him, to lend power to the words he spoke next.
“Fenriz, before I leave to report these events, it is you who need answer a few questions†He said, pausing a moment before continuing.
“Who else have you um… interviewed today that did not leave with an escort for protection? There can be no doubt that anyone with the power to have done this, will have eyes and ears enough to know who has been taken from daily life for these sessions.â€

"He is the only one that has been so summoned, Guardsman." Fenriz replied as he gathered up his leather belt and rose from his chair. "The others stay or work upon the palace grounds and thus could be questioned and protected much less openly. I did not have the personal pleasure of such meetings you understand but I sure they were handled with equal efficientcy and manners." Fenriz grinned coldly at Valsert.
"Still if you wish to busy yourself treading paths already walked, you have seen the faces involved. You could keep an eye on them." Fenriz shrugged. "Good day to you, Guardsman. Until we meet again." He moved towards the door of the cell.

Valsert remained silent as the Gaoler moved past and out the door. The other questions which he had in mind broke and scattered with the power of the firsts answer.
It took only a few moments before he came to the conclusion of what to do next, and who his report should go to. If those involved were in the palace, then the Captain of the guard there would be the logical place to report.
Val turned on his heels, briskly walking from the room with one name on his mind.
Captain Ulder
