Tazlure Chat Policies
#Tazlure is the official Tazure chatroom on the Darkmyst.org server. While there are ops available to deal with problems, in the end like the rest of Tazlure this chat channel is subject to the authority of the GD's and the Terms of Service. The current head of chat is Meridiuz, our webmaster.
Chatroom Rules: The link to these rules is posted at all times in our channel subject. By entering our chatroom you are indicating you have read these rules and agree to comply by them.
1. No spamming or similar interruptions of normal conversation in the chatroom This can include, but is not limited to any of the following:
- advertising other rpg's or non Taz-related chats.
- flooding (including flyby's, autorejoin if lurking, numerous nickchanges etc. that interrupt ongoing conversations repeatedly within a short space of time)
- tagging (short conversation between mods and players about giving/receiving posts). Please keep tagging to PM's. You ARE free to discuss plotlines, your characters, etc, obviously.
- scripts that interrupt normal conversation repeatedly in a short space of time
These examples are meant as guidelines as to what is considered disruptive in chat. It remains the call of an Op to see whether particular behavior is disruptive at that time. We trust their common sense 2. Treat fellow chatters with respect and courtesy If you have a problem with someone, keep it out of the main channel and resolve it quickly and maturely. Do not repeatedly harass or abuse other chatters, either in pm or the main chat. Harassment = everything that is perceived by others as an attack or makes them uncomfortable yet is not stopped after being asked to do so. And yes, this can include repeated accusations of unproved harassment. Repeated begging for posts, or trolling out of boredom for posts, is considered mod harassement. Please follow the Tazlure Rules of Tolerance that ensure real life (international) disputes do not have a spill over effect on our boards or in our chatchannel.
- Speak for yourself
If you participate in a debate, you are kindly asked to speak only for yourself and not for the group you feel you belong to, whether that be Americans, Europeans, Jews, Muslims, Pagans, Christians, Homosexuals, Afro-Americans etc. We are all individuals here. You can describe your own opinion and views. Don't assume all "members of your group" will agree. Don't assume your opinion is an unanimously acknowledged fact, especially where it concerns your religious and political views.
- Do not speak in General Terms about others
Likewise please do not use general terms to describe other groups of people. It often invites inflammatory reactions from others. Be specific, and preferably give arguments for your opinion.
- Don't abuse history as an argument
If you give arguments please do not abuse history as a rethorical trick. It triggers irritated responses from people with a college education, as well as putting oil on the fire of extreme patriotism and religious fanaticism. It will do nothing to bring us closer together.
- Keep Discrimination (including Racism) and Religious/Atheist/Patriotic/Political Fanaticism off these boards. If a subject verges on this, it is violating several aspects of our Rules of Tolerance. If you wish to air these extreme views there are other places that are more appropriate. Please note that this still allows a moderate exchange of arguments by individuals. In our chatroom a #Netherworld call might be made on this, on a case by case basis.
- Show respect
No opinion or view is ever stupid or alien. Everybody has the freedom to express their thoughts as long as they stick to our rules of tolerance, terms of service and the GM's charter.
Note: We are not going to censor certain words on this channel, as we are all adults. However, repeated foul language, or other breaches of general netiquette will be dealt with.
3. Topics of conversation and #Netherworld We encourage all users of #Tazlure to keep a game focus and refrain from trolling, cyberpolitics or simple immature behavior. This is the OOC channel of a mature RPG channel after all. If at any time a conversation makes an user uncomfortable a 'Netherworld' call can be made. To do this type !netherworld (subject you want removed). Uphuron will announce the Netherworld call. The participants of the conversation are asked to move their discussion to #Netherworld and stop talking about the subject in #Tazlure immediately, no debate involved. A #Netherworld call is non-negotiable. The dropping of the conversation subject is enforced immediately by the Ops.
The chatroom #Netherworld has no moderation, no automated logging and no Ops except for Meridiuz and Tygress. This is purely for the registration of the channel so that it will always be available and so that we can bring back Chanserv if needed. Tazlure does not take responsibility for anything discussed in #Netherworld. You enter and leave #Netherworld at your own risk and are under no obligation to follow participants of a discussion there. However, you do need to stop the subject in #Tazlure.
Note: abuse of #Netherworld calls, for instance by enforcing puritan standards or stifling all normal conversation, will be dealt with solely by Ops, yet EVERYBODY can make a 'Netherworld call'. Please do not debate #Netherworld calls and respect the fact that the subject may indeed make someone uncomfortable.
The concept of the Netherworld call was inspired by Imperia.
4. Lurking We encourage users that are currently away from their screen (for instance because you are posting or working on something) to reflect this in their nick, and make sure that you are alerted if somebody is contacting you (flashing, pinging whatever). If you will be out of reach for a long period of time we prefer if you log out. However, this is a preference that will not be actively enforced. Please be aware if you begin to have connection problems and your auto-rejoin is disrupting the chat, you may be temp-banned during your abscence. 5. Bots The only bots allowed in #Tazlure at this time are Uphuron and Cyne. Uphuron is a help bot, programmed specifically for the #Tazlure chatroom. In addition to any helpfunctions it logs all conversation. Cyne is a barbot, and only used on occasion for entertainment purposes. Chanserv and Gameserv are services operated by the server darkmyst.org Note: while scripts are not disallowed, we would like to remind people to switch them off if they are going to amount to a form of flooding. This includes auto-rejoin if you are lurking. 6. Logging As a matter of policy all Ops keep logs of private messages and the main chatroom. At anytime that they have to report an incident, they submit these logs. In addition to that our bot Uphuron logs conversations. By reading these rules and proceeding to enter our chatroom, you acknowledge this policy and the chance logs of a chat may be read by the GD's if an incident should occur. We recommend you log your conversations (including PM's) as well. We are aware logs are easily editted and they are not the only form of evidence we use in investigating an incident. 7. The Status of Ops The @/Ops of #Tazlure are the official representatives of Tazlure in the chat. They are held to similair guidelines and standards that our moderators are, being volunteers giving their free time just like moderators are. See the GM's chapter for the ops guidelines. Ops are there to provide friendly, informative environment for chatters, so they can relax in an OOC environment. They are entrusted to use their maturity and common sense in making decisions to enforce the chatroom rules. While many of the ops are moderators, that doesn't mean normal users cannot be nominated to become ops. Nor does it mean all moderators are automatically opped. Please ask an OP about how to obtain Ops in the chatroom. Please do not harass an Op about obtaining Ops. Please note that an Ops can be quiet yet not idle. Just because somebody is not partaking in the conversation doesn't mean he or she is not paying attention. Due to timezones the majority of Gamedesigners will not be online during US evenings. Not all GD's are ops. Only people with an @ are at that moment responsible for keeping the peace. 8. Disciplinary Measures If a chat only offense is commited (as detailed in these rules) any disciplinary measures taken do not have repercussions in the Tazlure forums. If behavior in chat has an impact on the game Tazlure disciplinary measures may involve an additional ban on the forums.
- Any time a chatter disrupts the chat with rude/vulgar/offensive/childish behavior, or by breaking the rules, an Op will ask them to cease. This is considered your first warning, even if it was worded nicely without specifically stating it was a first warning. The warning may be given in #Tazlure or in PM.
- If the disruptive behavior continues, or within a reasonable period of time another incident happens, a chatter is given one more warning, in the form or a kick/temp ban not to exceed 3 minutes. This is your cool down period. If the violation was really major (including behavior in PM such as (sexual) haressement), the first warning will be skipped for an immediate kick/temp ban from #Tazlure.
- If after the second warning a chatter STILL continues to disrupt chat in whatever way or form, they will be banned for a minimum of 48 hours, pending investigation. The final length of the ban will be determined by the channel admin (Meridiuz)
Note:Evading a ban (using a different nick or ISP to enter the channel), will be considered a breach of faith and possibly result in an akick (permanent ban) being placed on the chatter. All behavior in #Tazlure is subject to GD authority. Additional measures, such as formal written warnings and akicks, are possible, either on the initiative of the Ops/channel admin, or because an user has filed a complaint. When considering disciplinary measures the GD's use logs, email, testimony etc. This is not a court of law but a private organisation. While GD's will take care to hear all sides of the story and try to be forthright they will not allow nitpicking of rules, examination of evidence, public debate, community votes, trial by jury etc. as if this was real life. Decisions are based on the spirit or intention of the rules and the general good of the whole of Tazlure. The GD's ensure that they are convinced beyond reasonable doubt that their decision is necessary. If you think that is hotly unfair, we advise you not to use our chatroom. If you ever have a problem with an Ops decision, want to file a complaint or wish to address a chatroom policy, please contact Meridiuz at

Please allow up to 2 weeks before a reply. Please make sure you have tried to resolve issues yourself before making a complaint, as this takes time and resources and subjects both involved parties to intense scrutiny. 9. Purgatory If for whatever reason incidents are judged to be part of the group behavior of regulars at chat, rather than individuals misbehaving the channel admin and/or the GD's may chose to call a period of Purgatory, to take no longer than 2 weeks. During Purgatory the rules of #tazlure are upheld more rigorously and any preferences as detailed in these rules will be enforced as additional rules. Bitching, whining, lodging false complaints etc. will end in 3 month bans. During Purgatory we aim at having 2 Ops at all times. Purgatory will be officially announced. If after Purgatory the GD's consider this necessary the #Tazlure chatroom may be closed for a period of time to be determined at that time. That is to be considered a last resort, but it can and will happen if necessary. 10. Fanchannels The #Tazlure chatroom is the official chatroom of Tazlure. We do however allow fanchannels to use (part of) our name provided they apply for strategic partnership (which means endorsing our code of administrative ethics as listed in the Strategic Partner Program), respect our copyright (as they will operate under our fair use policy of deritative works) and in general make their users understand that Tazlure cannot be held responsible for the fanchannel or any behavior therein. We will not at any time monitor the fanchannels, and though our staff standards include a paragraph on how behavior outside Tazlure reflects on staffmembers will not be engaging in disciplinary investigations of staffers outside our own official channels unless it has a direct and major impact on Tazure itself. 11. #Cantine This is a mod only chatroom specifically created for discussing plots and policies. At this time, ONLY mods are given access to it, and it is currently listed as a "restricted" channel, meaning anyone without the proper access level trying to enter it will be automatically kicked and banned. We'd like to thank our players for respecting the privacy of this channel and not making a game out of trying to "get in". All behavior in #Cantine is subject to the GM's chapter. This policy is updated regularly. Last update 15th of May 2004. Please read the chatroom FAQ sheet to clearify certain questions before contacting us.
