Dort: The Lady Luck

Exterior
The sky was clear and the moon was bright, casting a fat round reflection down upon the waters. The well-polished wood of the ship shone a pure silver that rivaled both moon and stars. And of course, the small fortune that had been spent to outfit her rigging with hanging lanterns made it all the more spectacular.

The Lady Luck was once a respectable luxury vessel owned by the High Priest of Dort's Pecunia Temple. Now she sits at the other end of Dort harbour. She's still as luxuriously furnished as ever, but instead of ferrying important dignitaries and clergy about the Isle she plays home to a select crowd of gamblers and dandies. The current owner, a Master Montana, rents out space for games of chance and decadent entertainment to those who can afford to attend.

Interior
The chamber inside was grand. Soft carpets of some exotic origin covered most of the floor. The wood that showed in the spaces between was smooth and polished, and had a slight silver sheen. The room was bi-level, with stairs to either side of the entrance leading up to a balcony that ran around the edges of the room. Young women in tasteful dresses that only hinted at what was probably for sale lined the balcony rail. A lavish crystal chandelier hung form the ceiling beams to spread a diffuse light throughout the gaming areas. The main floor was divided into four areas.

Just inside the room was a small area of tables, for socializing, with a raised platform at one end for musicians or other entertainment. Two servants saw to the needs of the patrons seated here, bringing food and drink and occasionally a small written message from one of the pretty ladies along the balcony.

The central area was divided into two sets of gaming tables: cards on one side and dice or more esoteric games on the other. Only one of the three card tables was occupied. A pair of middle-aged men in clothing of expensive but foreign style were doing more talking than gaming. The other area had a small crowd gathered to observe a game of bones. There was a healthy mix of wealth and common folk there.

Finally, a more familiar sight: a bar was installed on the far end of the room. Cushioned stools, a few comfortable patrons, a polished wooden surface and a tall man clothed in sober brown fabric tending bar. If one squinted it might not appear that much fancier than the Drunken Duck.

The sound of gossiping mouths at the bar and dining tables created a subdued background for the occasional outburst of excitement (or regret) at the gaming tables.

Available Plots aboard the Lady Luck

The Mating Game

Lady Deja, an elderly woman overseeing the fortunes of her niece Anya, has come to the Lady Luck on this eve looking for a suitable match for her niece. Deja is fabulously wealthy and has been left with custody of Anya after the girl's parents passed away on a sea voyage. Anya's inheritance is quite large and includes her father's tow remaining ships and a horse-breeding farm in the northern part of the isle.

Deja, an amateur astrologer, has determined that on this very night, aboard a gambling boat, the young man worthy of Anya's hand and fortune will challenge her to a game of Kemn.

Ye Olde Shoppe of Oddities

Two World's Mouth tradesmen, Lord Pfenig and Duke Armcaster, have come to Dort on a secret mission of ruin. They have a ship full of magickally cursed merchandise that they would like to set loose upon the trade capital of the Empire. It would be nice if they could also turn a profit and distance themselves from the damage caused by the goods. To that end, they are seeking a would-be merchant to hire as a shopkeeper to sell the bad luck items. Someone inexperienced enough to not question their good fortune but with enough determination to make a nice profit.

Gambling
There's always money to be lost or won.

Luck and Fortune
The balcony girls are skilled companions and fortune tellers. Their time is expensive but often worth it. For the right price they provide conversation, companionship and serve as "lucky charms" for gamblers. There are private areas to which they may retire with clients, but physical intimacy is purely at the girls' whim and should not be expected. If a gentlemen is polite and interesting or otherwise endears himself to the girl, she will offer a "fortune" at the end of the evening. Some read palms or auras or seek the truth through cards or tea leaves. Most are fairly accurate: and vague. Occasionally a more serious prediction comes to one of them.

The God Game
This also happens to be the primary gathering spot for those who worship the gods of fate (no guise specified: could be Ith and Kryn or merely "the Fates"...). Fortune smiles on those who spend coin freely and engage in games of chance.
