DREAM GUY: A new morningtide....

Post by Guest »

Some girls had wandered in the gardens deep into gravetide. Others had sought their amusement in the library or even their own chambers. However the case nearly none of them were abed early. So it was something of a relief that the next actifity occured far later in the morningtide, leaving the ladies to their beautysleep.

In the fifth mark of morningtide all of the ladies found themselves at welldecked breakfast table. Juices of several fruit. Eggs done in several ways, smelling enticing together with their bacon. Strawberries and grapes strewn about for decoration. All kinds of bread together with honey, jam, cheese and all kinds of meat. Too much to mention really. The count didn't belief in spearing expenses.

The butler Ainsworth led everybody to his own personalised chair. Another rose was waiting for everybody. In addition an emerald ring awaited the following persons:
Brionna
Ilaria
Fialessa
Becca
Jolanda
Delenadra

"Dear Ladies," Ainsworth said after a little cough "I would like to thank you for your participation. After breakfast only the people with an emerald ring will be asked to take a ride with the king. For the others a ride home will be waiting."

Neit was not surprised at her not receiving a ring. She had not played well with the others and after growing tired of the game, she had caused some problems the night before. All that needed to happen now was to burn the stables down or something along those lines. Perhaps she could relieve herself in Jolanda's bed.

She laughed out loud at the thought of Jolanda finding excriment on her pillow. Neit looked at Jolanda as she laughed. She took a few bites of food to eat, and then left the room.

She needed to pack and execute her plan. Making her mess in Jolanda's room would definitely be the first thing on her list of things to do...

Dusty eyed she'd awoken, with that feeling she had never actually gone to sleep...

Jolanda swanned into the breakfast room, unable to help herself but surreptitiously look towards covert places. Where were they lurking, these people voting off the contestants? Jolanda had formed something of a plan, and excitement coursed through her veins at the thought of success. Soon all of this shall be mine!

"Thank you Ainsworth. My, we certainly lack for naught." I wonder if Ainsworth goes with the property? I'll need a good man to take care of things. Her eyes then narrowed as she wondered how much he knew and who's side he was on.

"But what is this?" she lifted the rose, it was politer to do that than to grab the ring (which she'd have done if no-one was watching). But they were watching, she knew. She held the bloom to her nose as Ainsworth explained it's meaning. King? She thought she must have heard wrong, though it would suit her so very well if it was true. But no, I can't be that lucky can I!?

"Oh my," she cooed, pretending facination with it's sparkles as a far bigger prize glittered in her mind. Setting the ring upon her finger she glanced to the side to see who else had gained one. She was unable to help herself but make sure that no one elses were either bigger or better.

Brionna, Ilaria, Fialessa, Becca & Delenadra... The other ladies were no-longer the competition in Jolanda's mind, no, the game reached far past this room. We are but the pawns.

Niet's laugher drew her attention, her eyebrow rose quizzically, but the half-giantess left the room without saying a word. Hiding her envy, Jolanda deduced as she took a seat, pondering the greater motivations of those that were picking the girls off like fleas. Some clue was missing, she knew, and it niggled at her as though she ought to know the answer. I wonder if Guy's got his reigns crossed entirely over what this contest is all about.

"I trust you all slept well?" Jolanda asked after everyone had settled, feigning a yawn herself.

Awake and yet not. She had nearly jumped out of bed when she realized just how late it'd be come. So late! She chidded herself. She dressed quickly and was rather suprised when she noted that most of the women like herself had slept late. She was double shocked when the breakfast room was laden with gifts- small but much appreciated items.

Delanedra took the rose and much like the previous night she twined into her-looking once more the part of the village-girl. She took the ring, or rather simple moved it to the side of her plate, she'd wear it later. She grabbed a peice of bread with jam, along with a little bit of meat. She looked at Guy then at the other women when the word King came from guy. King? He's... oh no... He's a king. We'll I've made it this far, no turning back or giving up now. He's much nicer that any king I've ever known-though I've never known any. she tried not laugh it'd be rude. She looked at the other women, then said quietly. "Good Morning... everyone." she said cheerfully.

What a good morning this would be.

For Fialessa when her rest had come, it had been received well. And though the marks for her rest were few she managed to appear refreshed by the fifth mark of morningtide. Her coppery locks were brushed to gleaming as they fell around her shoulders, and the ends near her waist fluttered softly as she moved into the room.

She nodded politely, kindly to Ainsworth as she slipped into her chair before responding to Jolanda's question. “Oh, quite well, how was your rest Jolanda?” Her eyes noting the greenish glimmer of the ring that was the symbol that she would continue to remain while others would return to wherever it was they had come from. Upon a slender finger she slid the ring, almost subconsciously, so as not to lose it. The lovely ring would become more than the pearls a reminder of whatever moments had passed between herself and their host. This was not to say that she deluded herself in the belief that perhaps some of the others experienced such things, she merely chose to ignore them as they had little affect on her. Fia looked over at the dreamy eyed Delanedra as she expressed a cheerful greeting to everyone. “Good morning...” she returned as her eyes glittered into an amiable smile seeing what the other girl had done with the flower – charming, it suited the girl somehow...

Twirling her own rose and admiring its natural perfection for a few flickers before nibbling a bit at the bread and honey.

Ilaria had learned to be a morning person throughout her 19 yahren. One had to be a morning person to get up at the crack of dawn to go collect various herbs. Even though she didn't get much sleep, Ilaria was up and about early, whistling a simple tune as she got ready for breakfast. She wasted no time getting down to the breakfast room, eager to get something to drink. Not taking much notice of her surroundings, Ilaria quickly found her seat and poured herself a tall glass of juice, deciding not to partake in any of the food just yet.

Ilaria merely raised an eyebrow and stared when she noticed the ring and rose sitting next to her plate. She stole a quick glance at the ladies sitting around the table and was disappointed to learn that her "friends" hadn't received a ring as well. Ilaria shrugged, and then placed it on her finger next to her opal ring. She wondered who exactly was choosing who would stay and who would go, as Ilaria hadn't spent much time with the Count. Grimacing, and then giggling at the thought of what she would look like trying to ride a horse, she returned Delanedra's greeting with a sunny smile and a cheerful "Good morning! Hopefully everyone slept well."

"'Morning," Becca smiled and nodded to people, coming in just as Jolanda faked a yawn. This of course, set her off, although she smothered it behind her hand. She'd catnapped, rather than slept, which was usually enough so long as people didn't start yawning.

The girl thanked Ainsworth as he showed her to her seat, and looked over the table curiously. The rose wasn't much of a surprise, although they did prompt a gentle smile as she ran her fingers over it. The ring, though...

Becca stared at it with one eyebrow raised, wondering whether she should ask someone if they'd lost it or just pocket it to wear when she got home. The raised eyebrow was turned on the butler as well, as he spoke -'I'M staying? What the hell? I mean, I'm grateful, but... But... HOW did that happen?' - which quickly turned into two raised eyebrows as he continued speaking.

"Is it just me, or did he say king?" Becca asked the other women, picking up a slice of bread and putting honey on it with a generous hand (What? She didn't get that much sugar at home!) What she really wanted to do was eat those strawberries, but from the looks of things they weren't to be eaten. Damn. 'And did he say RIDING? I can't ride! I've never been anywhere near a horse! And I doubt most of these butterflies haven't either, so we should be okay.' And it was probably a good thing she was wearing trousers then. "Which king?"

Delanedra smiled at the others. With the group diminished, she'd be able to get to no the others better. My kind of friendships, finally. She shuddered at the reminder of the other women who'd been... Not so nice. She sat there eating her toast, and and bacon. "So how is everyone?" she asked the nearest woman, unsure how to exactly start conversation. It's too quiet in here, much to quite.

Brionna had spent a troubled night, the revelations of their host ricocheting around her head in a mad jumble. It had altered the way that she viewed the contest dramatically, although she had to admit to herself that she still found the man attractive. Not attractive enough to fall into bed with, admittedly, but enough to make her wonder what it might be like to do so.

She had managed to sleep in snatches, but dawn saw her standing on the balcony watching the sun rise. It was a tranquil sight, and it restored her more than all of her tossing and turning in the huge bed. By the time she had returned to her room and splashed cold water on her face, she felt ready to face the day.

Dressing carefully, she made her way down to breakfast. Whatever challenges the day was to bring - Didn't he say something about riding? - she was determined to meet them head-on.

The first challenge came a little sooner than she was expecting. As soon as she entered the dining room, her eyes took in the plates with their adornments. The fact that only half the places had a ring raised chill bumps on her flesh. Another cull! she thought grimly. She hardly dared to breathe as Ainsworth escorted her to a chair, and a small sigh escaped her as she looked down to see the flash of emerald winking up at her.

Lips curved in a small smile, she glanced around to see who else would be staying with her. Jolanda - the One be praised! Delanedra and Fialessa - good, they seemed nice. Becca - hmm... could cause some problems if she and Jolanda continue their sniping from last night. And... Ilaria, I think she said her name was. Didn't get to know her at all. All in all, not a bad group, she decided. Even better was the fact that Neit hadn't received a ring. The giantess had made her extremely nervous, and she wouldn't be sorry to see that one leave.

She was so caught up in her musings that she almost didn't register the butler's words. When she did, her eyes went wide with alarm. Of all the people she really didn't want to see right now, the king was pretty close to the top of the list. Her long fingers toyed absently with the ring as she returned the polite 'good mornings' from the other ladies with an absent smile.

Becca's question caught her attention, however, and she gave the woman a wan smile. "I'd guess he means King Balthasar - he did say the man was his cousin," she replied. No need to mention that she'd also learned that this wasn't true. "Just what I always wanted - to fall off a horse in front of the reigning monarch of my country." Her smile turned bitterly ironic and she shook her head in disbelief at the situation.

Slipping the ring onto her finger and helping herself to breakfast, she glanced at Delanedra and gave the woman a grin. "I'm not too bad, as these things go," she replied. "I'd feel better if I'd ever ridden a horse before." Looking around the table, she asked, "Just out of curiosity, has anyone here ever ridden a horse before?"

Jolanda watched the Archadheil twist the rose into her hair, guessing the girl the type to swim in ponds naked too, she could see it now... a more romantic girl she couldn't imagine. Well, one sailor might be saved she figured, if he wasn't already. She noticed that the girl's opinion of her hadn't improved over night, as again she ignored Jolanda's greeting - and so Jolanda promptly ignored her right back.

"Horribly," Jolanda replied with a grin to Fialessa, remembering the pact they had made the night before, "must be all the excitement maybe." she then winced as Ilaria entered with jangling brightness, greeting the room as though she'd been up since dawn already. Jolanda was not a morning person, though perhaps she was hamming up her grogginess some what.

Becca, who ironically seemed to suit Jolanda's mood most of everyone as she yawned. And upon her heels, Brionna. Jolanda smiled warmly...

"No, I've never ridden except in a carriage, surely he wouldn't make us climb on top of a horse?" she replied, "But then, how hard can it be? We came here for an adventure ladies, maybe a bruising good ride will have us all sleep better tonight!" she gave a wry grin.

Delanedra smiled, "I'm well..." she said to Jolanda, picking up a peice of fruit and then reminding herself that the woman was somewhat cold. Or perhaps that been her fault. She ate the strawberry, "Horse back riding...." she mutter messing with the bacon, breaking it into two peices and quietly muching on it. "I've never ridden a horse either, do think we'll be taught if we haven't or will it be every woman for herself?"

"My best friend always used to say that he got his best night's sleep after a good day of riding, so hopefully the same will apply to us. I know that I didn't get much sleep last night," Ilaria mused in response to Jolanda's statement. Ilaria sipped quietly on her juice, trying to decide who to converse with next. Most of the girls that Ilaria had befriended had left already, so she figured that she was at a slight disadvantage. Deciding on Delanedra, Ilaria replied, "While I would imagine that it might be entertaining for the Count to watch us bounce around on the horses without a clue, I would hope that he wouldn't be so mean."

When Faliña finally found herself seated at breakfast, she was not surprised that there was no ring awaiting her. "Good morning." She was a bit tired to assess the full implications of this, at least until she'd had some breakfast. The halfling helped herself to some bacon and fruit, and tried to dispel the cobwebs of sleep from her mind.

She reiterated her good mornings to Ilaria and Becca as they in turn made their ways in. Apparently Becca had noticed something in Ainsworth's wording that she had missed, King It was a bit strange, but then, nothing about this was ordinary was it.

The main topics seemed to be how everyone had slept and the upcoming ride, for her part she had never been on a horse. But she was up for giving it a try. She gave an encouraging smile to Brionna's worry of falling off her horse. She listened a bit more as more confessed their lack of skill with horses.

After a quick smile to the entering halfling, Fia remarked gently, “I think it's evident that most of us have never sat a horse. At least then we may laugh together as we learn...”

Delanedra nodded. "Yes." she said softly. "I don't know if I'll be able to even stay on a horse..." she looked down at her plate but then realized that most of the women felt the same way. "Well, we'll all just take one step at a time. I hope we don't have to ride any spirited horses..." she shivered. "I would hate to fall off or anything." she picked up her emerald ring and examined it. Then sat it back down before surveying the table, where was the Count?

Brionna smiled as the rest of the women admitted to having no experience with horses either. Nodding to Fialessa, she agreed, "You're right, we're all in good company for learning." The previous evening's revelations were firmly in mind as she looked around the table and added, "I know this is supposed to be a competition, but what say we put that aside for a while and all try and get through today with the minimum of bruises and embarassment?"

It wasn't much, but she hoped it might pave the way for a bit more cooperation later if it was needed.

Faliña smiled halfheartedly as she finished her breakfast. "It's been lovely meeting all of you, and although I wish I had a bit more time to speak with each of you, I guess I don't. Best of luck to all of you." With this small speech, she rose from the table and left the room.

The Count didn't talk much. In fact he positively looked hung over. Then again many of the ladies present knew exactly why the poor guy had suffered a lack of sleep. He was only sipping his espresso and not saying much. He winced at Ainsworth mention of the king.

OOC: I'll be starting a new thread for the ride ladies ;)
