"A few dozen at least."

He hissed against the pain as she worked her ministrations. He continued to bear the pain well, and was consciously trying not to struggle too much to assist her.

Her next question brought a tear that slid slowly down his cheek. It was clearly evidence of pain of a different sort.

"Ami. My beloved's name was Ami. She was killed in the ambush."

He began to gently roll over as he started to weep, but as Caoimhe continued to stitch his wound, the pain of it brought him rigidly back into the same position. He gripped the earth itself in a tight, white knuckled fist.

The other questions seemed to help distract him. His mother's name was Zayra, and she was known to Caoimhe as a gardener of some ability. He liked bumbleberries, and spoke of eating them right off the bush during his many patrols. He liked to swim and loved being on the river, and he answered her questions with a certain, forthright honesty that many found endearing.

When at last Caoimhe had finished and his wounds were bound, her last gesture of kindness and warmth sent him off to sleep in relative comfort and peace. His pale features, once so wracked with pain and grief, were at rest and he could begin to heal.

"A large group," Caoimhe mused in response, her words were brief and only meant as a means to keeping him awake while she did her work. When he spoke of Ami her heart wrenched. To have suffered such a loss explained his emotionless face when she'd initial approached. Perhaps he'd been thinking of dying himself. Still, he'd raised his hand. He'd sought help. He wanted to live, and he would. He would live through the pain and would have this long wicked scar to remind him of her death everyday.

"We should swim together some time. You will have to teach me, I do not know how." She said, offering another smile. When he spoke of bumbleberries and other things that made him happy she nodded along and offered her agreements. "They are best when still warm from the sun," she said, but eventually the work was done and it was time for her to turn her attentive fingers to working on someone else's wounds. As soon as the raidhiel was sleeping she pulled a woolen blanket over him to keep him warm.

Walking away from Cavan the young adhiel went in search of someone who wasn't either busy healing or being healed. Once found, she gave them directions to where the young man was laying. "Please find his mother, Zayra - warn her before she gets here that Ami was lost in the battle, and that Cavan was injured, but that he is sewn up. She should take him home with her," she instructed and gave a look over to the sleeping warrior. She would find him in the next day or so to see how he was fairing.

It was time to find someone else to work on, and then another. She treated them all in the same way that she had with Cavan. Caoimhe had a gentle bedside manner that involved asking questions that made them think about things they enjoyed as well as making sure to find out who their kin was so they could be sent for and directed to them. It was in this way she spent the rest of her afternoon - sewing and bandaging, applying salves and bandaging... healing. She was, after all, her mother's daughter.

OOC: I'm ok calling it here unless you want to spend another few pages on her stitching. Thanks for the super thread!
