Draydis smiled inwardly at the results of his questions. The girl had confessed to knowing about the wolf creature, and by her own words and reaction showed clearly that she cared about it. ~but why...~

"So him killing once is acceptable? How is one gruesome death permissive and two or more are not? I've seen the destroyed body of his victims. Have you looked at those carcasses? Have you seen how savagely they were killed? Yet you say one that would kill without any hesitation and with such savagery would not kill twice and is not evil? Tell me, do you think it is the act of a good creature to rend its prey into such small pieces that one can no longer recognize even what race the deceased was? This creature, m'lady IS the very definition of evil. You are visibly upset by this all...it is clear that it has killed before, and I suspect you've attempted to keep this creature hidden so it won't be destroyed."

He chuckled for a moment, hoping to get her to break emotionally. The guardsman knew that if she reacted emotionally, her mind would not think rationally and would instead spew out the information she did have. He did not want her to start thinking that she should instead be silent. But even if she were silent...there were ways to make her talk...

"You care about this monster, and with that glowing stick you hid in your skirt, I'd guess that you control the monster." He stepped a bit closer to the woman, focusing his piercing eyes on hers. "The way I see it is that your knowledge of this wolf and your presence out here with it suggests you are just as guilty for the killings as it is." He looked directly into her eyes for a flicker. "Now why should we not treat you as its equal and take you as prisoner as the laws allow?"

His questions were then finished. The girl would either speak or she wouldn't. If she didn't react to his questions, the fun part of interrogation would begin. The guardsman kneeled and picked up a handful of dirt and leaves. They were rubbed between his hands as he smelled the odor they gave off. He focused on these smells, trying to pick up the scent that he had smelled on the wolf when it was hunting him. Nature would give away the wolf if it had been here earlier that night...

She was glad of the friendly emotions she got back from the horse, even if they were just for departure. It was sad to leave like this, though she felt relieved as well, knowing that they have a better chance of survival this way. It is something that they both felt well. She caressed his cheek for a last time together with saying some words of departure, with quite a soft voice she told her animal friend. "You will be good, you will make it. We will meet sometime in the future again." Nobody liked sudden goodbyes, however there was no other option that would make sense to them at that time.

As notified by the Paladin and executed by their guide, they went northwards. It seems their guide had taken the choice to approach the danger rather than to stay clear of it. Approaching the predator as the prey is quite dangerous. We need to be sure that we are prepared and show no signs of fear at all. Fear, it is the cue of a predator to know when to strike. Can we do it? We still do not know what we are up against. One thing is for sure; never drop the guard around one for that is another cue for being taken out. The good thing is that the horses will be safe if we go towards it.

Aeshinera followed Glyph'n in her own type of careful pace. She was silent during this and kept her silence to not endanger any of the group. The predator might be one with good hearing. With every step she glanced at the flora around them to see if there was anything out of the ordinary. Because their minds were set on the predator a wicked piece of forest could attack them. Although it is more something natural to her as she always took glances around her to see if there were types of flora she never met before.

Then there was the emotion of fear that pressed upon her almost if it was guiding her. This fear.. What does this one tell? What is to be feared? What kind of predator are you? I have seen the predators natural to T'aquar. Why is it, that you are covered with an aura of fear? She kept herself calm by concentrating on their careful steps towards the threat. Each step was done alert in tune with a glance on the surrounding. The fear could not be cast outside of the mind either as it was a good beacon to have. If the fear became greater she suppressed it with her inner calm.

On several occasions she watched at Galliban. She was not acting like she was used to do during their earlier travels a day back. It was like she was paranoia, like something could jump out anytime anywhere. While that could be the case her actions made it obvious she was looking out. Could it be she is showing fear? Is this like the time with Niniel, the trip to the temple through the inferno? Could it be that she cannot keep her calm, just like her? Galliban, you should trust in your deity. Do not let fear get to you...

After some careful north venture a smell not produced by flowers, blossoms or fruits tingled her. A smell that was familiar during the time of the holocaust. The priestess tried to identify the smell but to no avail. What could be this smell be? During the great conflagration Taloh had this smell covered around the many streets. Is this the smell of demons or could this be the smell of death? Whatever the case is, we should approach it with caution. The smell itself was unpleasant to her sense. It took her some time to overcome it.

To her surprise their guide thought different about it. He increased his pace all of a sudden. What could be going on in his mind? To speed up and possibly lower his guard. As Glyph'n looked back to them over his shoulder the apprentice looked at him. She tried to read of his face what his sudden behaviour could have been. Aeshinera looked for an emotion that had driven him of the careful pace. Could it have been fear or was it perhaps that he was anxious about what laid ahead of them. She did her best to see what kind of emotion broke up the calm and secure pace they had been walking.

As their guide returned his mind on the matter ahead and the situation they were in she felt somewhat relieved. It looked like the guide was on to something. His moves were more to the point and quite precise. Where would he lead us now? It must be the source of this ill smell. Still with paying utmost attention to the surrounding she followed their guide whose concentration seemed to be fully focused on trail seeking now.

Another sudden change of their tracker was at a direct stop. As she did not notice anything particular dangerous in their direct surrounding it must be something that was caught by the eyes of their guide. She walked beside the guide to see what the reason was of the sudden halt. During her walk next to him he unleashed a filament of darkened words that were as softly spoken as the wind. She noticed the Paladin stood besides him as well. Galliban whispered something to Glyph'n though she could not pick up what was said. Instead she did some examination of what was before her with just her sense of sight.

The daughter of the Mistress of the Leaves looked at the death scene before her. Compared to the time in Taloh during the inferno this is way less shocking. She could keep her calm with ease. Other than that she discovered what the smell is that they followed for some time. It was not demonic; it was the smell of death. In future cases she would recognize such smell and place a label to it with better success. She made her sight examine the corpse from the same distance as their tracker. Looking at her face and build of her limbs she noticed it was an Adhiel woman that had not seen much of life. Her height is somewhere between four and six foot, it was difficult to see in such a situation this woman left life. The final things she noticed were that she had curly dark brown hairs, more or less her face was kept intact, and the body as well as the throat has been taken the most damage. It is a young Adhiel woman, wearing a silver dress. What would she be doing all alone in the forest? The way she has been attacked must be something like a feline or canine. Which one would it be? I am sure the guide must know.

Surprised at the reaction of Galliban she looked at the guide followed by a quick glance around them. Why does she need to be so loud on sudden impulse? This cannot be good. She watched the Paladin doing her inspection on the corpse with now and then a glance on the surrounding to see if something was going to happen.

Another loud reaction came from the Paladin. Aeshinera looked at her trying to see what drove her to be so loud. She tried to read her emotions. It was clear that there was anger and some frustration. She must feel powerless to not have been able to prevent this or something like that. After these loud words the predator would probably already know were we are, the sound comes from the place were it had fed a while ago. Thus making it even easier to find us. Now it can guide itself here by smell, emotion and sound. Galliban, you just made it harder for us…

The priestess gave another quick glance around her before addressing Galliban. With her natural tranquil voice on a gentle tone enough for her group to hear she spoke up to her. "Please, Lady Galliban, try to keep yourself calm. If we are indeed having to deal with a creature that has demonic nature it will feed upon hatred and fear. If this creature is a large predator that had chosen her as a prey, it will find us as well by fear. As for the rules of a predator are the strong will kill to weak to feed on them. Outside from that, it could find our feelings by sense, it could smell us and now it could use his sense of hearing to find us here. Besides we are on a spot that is already known to it." She broke her words up here and put her bow at the ready. Aeshinera adjusted her quiver slightly so that her fast draw of arrows was better possible. After being combat ready she continued. "It might already be on its way to us." Finally she asked their guide with the some tone as before. "What do you say, Glyph'n?"

OOC: Sorry folks... but I got no e-mail that there was postings.

IC:
Cyfrin listened to Draydis's words, not entirely happy at the way he was questioning her. That the girl did know of the wolf, somehow did not seem too much of a surprise, yet the way she defended it, did.
"Be a little easier Draydis, she is just a young girl you know, and regardless of what has happened, a frightened one".
Cyfrin leaned a little closer to Lilliane, "I am on your side Lilliane, yet although Draydis's words may be put a little harshly, they have merit my dear. If something was truly good, why indeed would it kill, except in self defence"?
He paused for a flicker, patting her shoulder gently, "This stick you have, what is that for, has that something to do with the wolf"?
While waiting for the girl to answer Draydis and himself, Cyfrin still felt that nagging thought at the back of his mind, then he remembered an old story from the past, about people being turned into beasts.
That made him stop, Surely not, she could not be like that? but then what does that stick do? It may just protect her, or perhaps it calls the beast?. His thoughts were a jumble, and he felt needed to tell Draydis of his suspicions. "Perhaps it protects you from the wolf my dear is that it?".
He looked directly at Draydis and mouthed silently to him, Werewolf, Stick calls wolf, and then shrugged his shoulders.
However he also took one hand off the girl's shoulder and picked up the staff he got from Draydis, hoping to be ready for whatever was going to happen.

"I suspect you've attempted to keep this creature hidden so it won't be destroyed."

Lilliane's eyes were filled with fear, trembling in Cyfrin's arms. "NO! Don't destroy him, please! I can't..."

Cyfrin's kind words cut through the possible ramble. The girl heard him berate Draydis for harshness and allowed her eyes to close in relief for just a moment.

"Wolves have to eat." She whispered. "Or they will die as surely as any other mortal creature. Cyfrin, surely you understand? You know how the forest works? It is hunt or be hunted! Please, I must go. You must understand. If I don't go now, terrible things might happen!"

While Draydis kneeled to focus on the scents of the forest she took a step back, the light of C'aldur's lantern reflecting on the bloody spots on her torn dress. The smell of wet doghair was around! It was just so vague that the lillies overshadowed it completely, unless one knew what to focus on.

"Shh!" One of the twins shushed the talk. "Listen!"

The trees rustled.
"...at is ong...." Another female voice, not far away. "...an's ooves!"

Lilliane started to back off, crouching low.

Glyph'n scowled, both at the noise and at the scene. He glared at Galliban, but before he got a chance to say anything Aeshinera already made all the points that were foremost on his mind.

Instead he just nodded at the empath, sparing nothing but a foul look at the loud paladin. Yet unbeknownst to the scout Galliban was the only one right now able to spot the subtle changes she had prayed for. The horrid scene was wavering like sand on a hot day. Not that far ahead to the west smaller bits and pieces moved like warm air.

"Move." Glyph'n grunted softly, obviously not noticing this strange behaviour of the air. He was aiming to go further north, away from whatever else might be hidden in these woods so closeby.

Galliban certainly noticed the glare that Glyph'n was giving her for her noise, but she payed it little mind. Perhaps she should not have made so much noise, but she knew that she could not change that after the fact. Instead, she was now very much concentrated on the scene before her. Things were moving for no apparent reason. Galliban had seen a similar effect before during hot days, but the weather conditions that day could not explain what was going on. In addition, it seemed that the young paladin was the only one who could see the changes. She heard Glyph'n instruct her to move, but she ignored that instruction.

"Wait," she said to the scout, only loud enough to get his attention. "Not that way. Let us go this way," she added, gesturing with her hand to the west, to the exact direction where she was seeing the strange movements. "I know that you have no reason to trust my instincts instead of your own, but I ask that you trust them anyway. There is something that way; Illuminatus tells me so."

The nod of their guide was enough information to her. She kept the weapon at ready while she scanned around. Other than the normal vegetation and the murder scene there was nothing else worthwhile that came to mind. The smell however still gave her nose some discomfort. Only few beings would love the smell of deceased bodies, Aeshinera was for sure not one of them.

Glyph'n's order to move out was just what she needed. Finally they could leave the murder scene behind and go to a place less frustrating to the senses, especially smell. Leaving towards the north again it was. She walked a step in that direction. However, the Paladin thought different about it. Instead of moving northwards she remained position, like she wanted to ignore the orders of their guide on purpose.

Once again there was a whisper towards the guide from the lady Paladin with a volume that soft that the apprentice could not make anything out of it. What could it be that she says to him? Could this whispered discussion be a secret that those two have? In any case, it does not concern me, as it is something that goes on between the two of them.

The gesture in the western direction did not make much sense to the priestess either. It must have been something that emphases the whispers. I wish I knew what it is that is so worthy of being kept secretive. It seems that there is no hurry since we have arrived here. In that case that would leave me some time to give the victim some guidance.

Thus as thought she executed it. Giving a prayer to the deceased Adhiel woman. Solemn was the tone and sincere were the softly spoken words by the priestess. '''Gracious Mistress of the Leaves, Mother of all flora, Thou Who art full of love and utmost merciful, I entreat Thee fervently to shine upon this young lady who had ascended into the aether to guide her awakened soul. Thou forgiver of sins and bringer of utmost love, open up the pathway for this lost soul so she will arrive in her safe-haven. Thou art the Ever-Forgiving, the Most Generous, the All-Bountiful.''' She closed the prayer while wishing for her to be taken to her safe-haven with whomever deity that may be.

Once that little thing was of her mind she focused once more on the direct surrounding. She took her step back away from the northern direction. Another thought crossed her mind. What would a lone young woman do so far in a dangerous area all by herself? There must be more here than meets the eye. She has no weapons in the open thus the predator had an easy prey. Without weapons, does that mean she was left behind here? Or did she actually go all the way here by herself? That is something we will never know. The apprentice released a soft sigh in conjunction with a slight shake of the head.

She faced the two people to see if they were done with their hidden conversation. Yet she could only focus on them for a slight moment. She redirected her senses back to scanning the area and being on her guard. With an intellectual as a predator you may never know when and how it will strike.

Dray was growing short in temper with the girl that was not answering his questions. His words remained calm for the moment, but the urge to slay her on the spot was growing. "You speak of the way of the woods and hunt or be hunted, yet you are unwilling to recognized that your beloved wolf falls into those same rules. He has killed...no...slaughtered this evening, and for that the wolf will die. It is an evil creature, and your words are quickly putting you into that same category."

He nodded at Cyfrin, as to let him know he understood the words that were mouthed to him. If it were indeed a werewolf, Dray knew nothing more than what he had heard in stories...and that was not much. He figured they were like any other creature though, and sticking a sword into the wolf until it stopped moving seemed to be a good plan.

The focus of the guardsman returned once again to the smell of the dirt and leaves in his hands. With the focus on that scent, the smell of dog hair once again hit his nostrils. "Wolf. She set a trap!" The words were loud enough for those around him to hear. Immediately the dirt and leaves were thrown down from his hands. With a flash of movement, the guardsman had his blade in his hands once again. He crouched low as if anticipating an imminent attack. It was clear that Dray had sensed something around the group and he was ready for a fight. The adhiel hoped that C'aldur would realize what was going on and order his men to prepare themselves appropriately.

He then saw the blood on the dress of the girl. Fire blazed in his eyes as Draydis realized that her involvement with the killing this evening may be even more than he had thought originally. With a look that could bore into a person, Draydis growled at the girl. "You will go nowhere. You have blood on your clothes...you protect the wolf...your answers to our questions are inadequate. A simple girl alone in the dangerous woods does not make sense. As my office and duties allow, for now m'lady, you are a prisoner of the Emerald Guard. Do not try to flee."

He looked briefly to Cyfrin. "It comes. I have smelled it. The woods have given me proof of it being here." His words were likely cryptic to his new friend, but now was not a time that allowed for explanation. He wanted to say more...to apologize to Cyfrin for coming off so harsh, but it was not the time to speak with kind words. The wolf had killed once this evening already...it was coming to kill again. The girl was involved more than she indicated, and trust was not a strong suit of Draydis.

With that, Dray listened for sounds of trouble approaching and scanned the woods around them with his eyes. He was also careful to make sure the girl did not in fact try to flee. He did not want to hurt her, but her involvement was unknown. If she did try to run, an arrow into her knee would be her reward. Considering all the recent encounters he had with demons and evil mages lately, Draydis was not about ready to take a chance. The Howler had given warning that not everything was as it seemed. Clearly, that was true with this girl and the wolf...

Cyfrin saw Draydis's nod and was about to speak again, when his warning cut through. Wolf?.

Thoughts flashed through his mind, including one to flee, He took a few breaths and calmed himself down.
Indeed he agreed with Draydis, it seemed the girl had lulled them, for he trusted Draydis's thoughts on this.
The girl, what to do with the girl? Quickly he unslung his staff, throwing it to the ground, keeping hold of the rope.

"Sorry", he whispered to Lilliane as he wrapped the rope around her, trying to stem any struggle she would almost certainly have. His plan being to pin her arms to her side and tie her feet together, then to leave her to one side on the ground. He decided he would spend little time and should Lilliane struggle too much, he would push her down, and keep half an eye on her, in case she tried something.

Getting his weapon ready, he took up the stance suggested by Draydis, ready to spin to face whatever direction the threat came from. Trying to keep one eye on the area behind Draydis and the other on the girl, he muttered a prayer to the Mother, Mother, look after your servant this night, he truly hoped he was ready for whatever happened.

Seeing that Cyfrin was keeping the girl under control, he took it upon himself to investigate the rustling noise in the tree. With as much silence as he could manage, Draydis crept forward until he was able to press his back against the tree. (ooc: assuming it's a big enough tree that it is wider than he is)

The plan was to wait for whatever it was that was coming to pass by him and then attack it from the rear. The others present with Cyfrin would be the focus of the unknown opponent, which would hopefully allow Dray to strike from surprise.

With his short swords in his hands, Draydis pressed as close to the tree as he could and waited for the unknown maker of the sounds to make their presence known.

From this point of hiding, Dray could still see the others, including the girl, whom Cyfrin was attempting to bind and control. He gave a nod to C'aldur hoping that the scout commander would understand his tactics.

The adhiel then closed his eyes and focused on the scents and sounds around him. His eyes would not be able to see anything until it was too late. Whatever was making the sounds would give away their position to his other senses however. He attempted to control his breathing and slow it to a point where the sounds of his own breath would not interfere with his ears trying to pick out the sounds of the advancement of their opponent. He wished to be like the bark of the tree...unmoving, camoflauged, and able to strike from complete surprise. The adhiel had only heard stories of those that were able to blend so flawlessly with nature. It was a skill he desired to learn...

OOC: Hi all! I'll be joining this thread. I actually don't know if Goldentree is near to anyone at this stage so I'll won't write anything about that yet.

IC: Goldentree was walking for days in the dense woods of Taquar. He didn't know for how much time he was walking, nor did he really care. He didn't even bother to check his direction, all he knew was that he was going SOMEWHERE, he didn't really know where, he didn't really know when he'll get there.

As he walked, be started to feel a change in the trees around him. Something was wrong in the woods, he could feel it in the trees, he could feel it in the vegetation, he could feel it on his tongue and in his mind. He didn't know what was the problem, but whatever it was it sent shivers down his spine, unnatural chill surrounded him, getting even into his bones.

He scanned his surroundings and listened, trying to find out what it was. He knew he wasn't in the corrupted trees near Taloh, nor did he smell that horrible, rotten stench of those trees. Whatever it was it was evil, it was wrong, and he knew it was up ahead, although he didn't know if it was far or not.

He took his arrow in his hand, knocking an arrow on the string so he would be ready for everything. He quickened his pace, but still trying to be as quietly as possible, using the techniques he was taught not too long ago. He tried to quickly scan the ground, looking for good places to step on like patches of earth with no twigs or dry leaves.

Once again there was something wrong in the woods, and once again he was right in the middle of it. Finally something new had happen, finally the change of scenery he so desperately wanted.

Being nothing and everything. A most curious sensation. Nothing and everything watched the strange threesome around what used to be her in that silver dress.

There was a flicker of confusion when the paladin spared her a thought, yet the distorted voices of the forest were so much stronger. She could not leave yet. Wherever her mortal body touched the earth it pulled at her being, keeping her here while freedom called.

"Gracious Mistress of the Leaves, Mother of all flora, Thou Who art full of love and utmost merciful, I entreat Thee fervently to shine upon this young lady who had ascended into the aether to guide her awakened soul."

Words climbed up like whispers. They filled her with longing to move on. Yet it was so hard to let go!

"Thou forgiver of sins and bringer of utmost love, open up the pathway for this lost soul so she will arrive in her safe-haven."

Forgive, but never forget. Yes, to be in Her arms instead of here where everything had ended. To see new beginnings and be part of the whole! This was her path! This was the way!

"Thou art the Ever-Forgiving, the Most Generous, the All-Bountiful."

Forgiveness! Freedom! New beginnings! With a silent cry of bliss her spirit opened up to the Mother, accepting her path. An aetheric kiss on the woman's cheek and she was free!

A touch as soft as a spider's silk on Aeshinera's cheek. A feeling of elation around her in the air, of darkness lifting for just a few flickers.

And then they were off, leaving a truly empty shell behind.

Empty shell
A finger
Moved...

Galliban led the way this time, their guide having no choice but to trust the strange paladin on her instincts. He muttered softly, sparing only little attention for the ladies with most of his senses directed at the ever changing forest.

Change it did, light moving through the foliage in unexpected ways, lifting darkness in some corners and deepening it in others. The feeling of coming closer strengthened, although it was not clear what exactly they were coming closer to until...

Voices!

"You speak of the way of the woods and hunt or be hunted, yet you are unwilling to recognized that your beloved wolf falls into those same rules. He has killed...no...slaughtered this evening, and for that the wolf will die. It is an evil creature, and your words are quickly putting you into that same category."

Bickering, male and female voices. These did not sound like a predator at all and yet the feeling of being watched was so strong that it almost overwhelmed the fear underneath.

"Sorry." Another male voice replied.

"NO!" A girl screamed.

Right then the scene erupted; people jumping into view from everywhere; Glyph'n pulling his weapon; people cursing...

People!
Not wolves!

They were faced with three armed scouts, one holding his bow trained on them from a little distance while the others had their swords out to cut off anything that threatened them. In the back two other men were wrestling down a helpless girl!

"NO!" The Lilliane screamed and dove for cover. Cyfrin had a hold on her, but not for long. She squirmed in his grasp, kicking his shin and biting whatever bodypart he dared take inside her reach.

Obviously this called for his plan B, which was to push her down. Immediately C'aldur stepped in and helped the man to get the girl down. She sobbed and cried on the forestfloor while the entire scene erupted into chaos: the three guards pointed their weapons at something hidden in the foliage, yet from whatever details were visible this was definitively not a wolf!

To Draydis the scent remained at a distance, not in the least disturbed by these new arrivals which caused so much stress in the ranks. It was impossible to focus like this...and it was a matter of flickers before accidents might happen because of one wrong move or word!

It was impossible to tell how long Goldentree had walked the forest. It was impossible to guess what time it was, although the shimmering light through the foliage betrayed something around morningtide.

He did not have to be an empath to pick up on the fear and anger rustling through the undergrowth. He did not have to be a follower of Pan to feel the blood rushing too fast. He didn't have to listen to the forest to know something was very, very wrong.

Be careful what you wish for. It was a saying all too true all too many times. Goldentree had hoped for something new, for a change. Every sense told him right now that the change had indeed come.
With the scent of death closely following.

Cries to the east!
Shouts.
Voices of anger and frustration.
Animals hiding.
Trees rustling.

Oh, there were things wrong in this forest alright, although right now it was hard to tell whether the forest itself was to blame or the ones wandering through it!

ooc
Goldentree, feel free to barge into the group at your own risk.

Seeing the people was hardly a surprise to Galliban, as she could clearly hear their noise as she approached. When they came into view, the young paladin stopped dead in her tracks. It was fortunate that they had made such a racket during her approach; she might have grabbed for her weapon had they surprised her. Instead, she remained perfectly calm and still, fearing that a false move might cause the three armed guards to attack. Wolf or no wolf, she was a stranger to them. Her armor was top quality to be sure, but she did not know if the bow one of them held was powerful enough to launch an arrow capable of puncturing her torso plate. She wasn't keen on testing that, either. She only hoped that her companions had the presence of mind to stay put and not make any sudden moves.

The armed guards were obviously the first thing that Galliban noticed, but it did not take her long to spot the commotion going on behind them. Two men fighting a girl did look bad, but Galliban knew far better than to go charging into situations sword-first. In any case, she wasn't in any position to start questioning anybody.

"Please lower your weapons. We are not your enemies," Galliban said to the guards, her tone firm and calm. "My name is Galliban Tyren. My companions and I have come from Kes'Levy on a mission commissioned by the Lords Un'Qyn and Un'Vhien and the Avatar herself." she added, making sure to keep her hands visibly away from her weapons.

Please, Illuminatus, let them see reason. Instill them with calm so that they may not act rashly.

The priestess was relieved that the lost spirit let herself be guided. The soft touch on her cheek felt like a friendly stroke of gratitude. She felt the euphoria of the young woman that was saved from eternal wandering. I wish you the love you need, young Lady.

It came to be that the Lady Paladin was leading the way, to full agreement of their guide. The guide who had done so many tasks and missions in T'aquar seems distracted. She noticed that the guide was paying more attention to the forest then to their own group. Could it be he is lost and because of that he lets her lead? Or could it have to do with their whispers? I will see were this leads. She followed Glyph'n and thus became tail position in the group of three.

The foliage was bathing them with odd light falls. It felt like the light had to fight a battle to illuminate the forest. Glyph'n must have noticed that earlier that is why he must be so focused at the surrounding plants. The apprentice started to look more intensive at the flora just like their guide did, however unlike Glyph'n she kept priority in seeing the group.

A voice, a familiar voice, a voice with text that was about a wolf. Could this predator that killed the young lady be a wolf? However, your voice, could it be you? Could you be the chosen one? Your voice is agitated, something must be going on. None of the other voices were known to her. Still that one voice she knew well.

Bits and pieces of memories returned to her mind in a flash. The battle on the temple roof, the long sensitive talk they had on the road to her home. They had been separated after the orders from the avatar in the last day of Taloh's standing. Could it be faith that weaved their paths back together once more?

The continues bickering between people was quite annoying. It was for certain that something was the matter over there. Listening to what was going on it seems that they have somebody to interrogate. Another thing began to force itself on her. The feeling of being watched got stronger with every step they got closer. What could it be that is keeping an eye out at us? Could it be the chosen one or are there even more unknown facts playing a role?

A scream of a girl which revealed that something was done against her will was thrown towards them. Are they abusing a girl? What kind of people are they? There was not much time to think about that as armed people jumped out from their hiding spots. Non of the people that showed themselves is the one known to her. Apparently he must be somewhere in hiding.

As the scene unfolded itself it was clear that two men held down a girl. The priestess was disgusted by the way they treated the child. From her view upon the situation it is if they were to continue forcing themselves on the girl she might get into a shock. With three armed guards that stood between them and the place of crime there did not seem to be an easy way to solve it.

Galliban stepped up as the spokes person before anyone else could act, the Paladin stated her name, their mission and kept it by that. The apprentice was curious about what plan Galliban had to save a child from abuse. She would have rather walked in right away to free the child and comfort it. Still the situation did not allow such acts to be done. She awaited the response of the group of brigands.

Now Cyfrin, so far had struggled through a very - for him - strange day.
Many things had happened that he did not understand, or perhaps did not want to understand, but despite all he had kept a brave face, managed as best he could accepting what he did not know, and even met one of his villagers that had been missing for some time.
All this was against Cyfrin's normal way of things, although there was an adventurous spirit in him, he liked things to be settled, normal, straightforward, and today had turned out to be anything but those things.
Despite that, he had adjusted, adapted and for the most part accepted his place amongst this group.

He had felt, as he knew the girl, he should subdue her, for her own safety as much as their own, and was grateful for C'aldurs help, but once again his world was broken into not by the wolf he was expecting, but by more people, speaking words of peace.

The girl was forgotten in Cyfrin's confusion and left to C'aldur to handle on his own. He looked at Draydis, then at Galliban and the others and, it was all getting too much for him to take in.
With a shake of his head he sat down, the weapon falling to the ground by his side, placing his head in his hands he thought to himself.
It is a dream, by the Mother it must be a dream. this is not my world, my forest. I will close my eyes and sit here quietly for a few burns and when I open them it will all be gone and I will be awake.
Pleased at his solution Cyfrin closed his eyes and began to count to himself.

At the sound of Galliban's voice, Draydis knew that those that approached were not enemies. He stepped from his hiding place and sheathed his weapons. "Lady Galliban, it is good to see you again." He looked to Aeshinera. "M'lady, it is good to see you again as well." A smile intended only for Aeshinera was presented to the lady as Draydis gave her a wink. He then gave them both a deep bow. "Gentlemen, I give you my word that neither of these ladies are an enemy to us." He looked to the dark elf that traveled with them. "I would suspect that he is a friend as well."

Draydis approached the dark adhiel and extended his arm. "I am Draydis."

Looking to all that had gathered now, Dray looked back to the girl, who was being restrained by C'aldur. "She knows of the wolf...if you could call it that...that has killed in these woods. I was on a mission for the Avatar as well, and received another mission that is from another that serves the Mother to track and destroy this wolf."

He looked around, still sensing the strange smells of the woods. "There is danger about. It hunts us. It watches us now. We have the girl, and I believe they are somehow related." He looked back to the girl who was now controlled by C'aldur. "When you approached, we decided to bind her until we could properly question her."

He smelled the air again, not hiding his actions. "We should all regroup together. The noise we made is not of concern...we were being watched long before this scuffle."

"Commander Draydis!" Galliban exclaimed upon his appearence. Her tone indicated that she was clearly surprised to see him, but her voice did not reach such a volume that it could be heard outside of the group. "This is surely a sign of divine intervention that our groups have found each other."

Once Draydis had called off the guards, she came closer to him to examine the situation.

"This is our guide, Glyph'n," she said, gesturing to the dark-skinned elf. "You mentioned a wolf? That would be what we all sensed in the forest, I suppose. That would also explain the body we happened upon." she added. Galliban looked back over to the girl and those who were restraining her, and offered no arguement to Draydis's actions. Girl or not, she could lead them to whatever was killing people in the forest. Of course, Galliban wished no harm to the girl. However, she appeared uninjured and unabused.

"Yes, perhaps that would be best. I do not like the idea of continuing our journey while some predator could be stalking us." the young paladin replied to Draydis's suggestion that they all regroup together.

Dray flinched when Galliban used his title. He had wanted to keep it hidden from C'aldur and the others. For some reason, Draydis just wanted to be a regular adhiel in front of the scouts. His mission was critical to defeating the demoness, and he figured that the fewer who knew where he was the better.

A smile was given to Galliban regardless though. It was certainly good to see her again. He nodded towards Glyph'n when introduced. "The Mother has certainly been with us today...and I'm happy to see that Illuminatus has joined us as well. These are dark times we are in, and all the powers of light must join together to help us bring better days for the future."

"You say you found a body? I tracked the wolf to a spot over there." He pointed in the direction where he had first seen the wolf (ooc: not the body Galliban, Aeshinera, and Glyph'n found). "I had an arrow trained on it when I suspect this girl interfered...though she was much larger then." He realized his words made little sense at the moment. "It is not an ordinary wolf though...Cyfrin made a comment to me about a were-wolf. I know nothing about such a creature other than the tales I heard as a child. This wolf is nothing like any I've seen before. It has intelligence...logic even. I attempted to lure it into a trap, and it is like it knew exactly what I was doing. It is much worse than those demon dogs we all fought in Taloh."

He looked back to the girl with C'aldur. "I fear she is probably hesitant to speak with me. I came off too harsh. Perhaps one of you could find out information from her. I would suspect she's more willing to speak to another female." He then briefly told them of the girl, her wand, and how he was able to track her and the wolf from the blue light and their respective scents. "I know it makes little sense, but the Mother has granted me new abilities...new senses."

He looked to the scouts, Galliban, and Aeshinera. "I know the wolf is near. I can smell it. I must focus now to find out more."

The guardsman then turned to Cyfrin, who was now sitting on the ground with his eyes closed. A lot had happened here this day. Cyfrin had spoken to the girl as if he knew her well. She was now captured and accused of being an ally of the wolf they hunted. At least one body lay dead in the woods from the same wolf. It was likely that Cyfrin was praying for guidance.

Draydis went to where he was seated and sat facing him. Draydis touched Cyfrin's knee gently with his hand. "What is it you seek my friend? The Mother will listen if you need Her guidance. Let us pray to Her. Open your mind and let Her see what it is that bothers you." He closed his eyes as well, focusing on the Mother, and spoke a quiet prayer.

"Mother, I lift up my friend Cyfrin and the others that have joined us this day. We seek the truth and desire to serve you as you would have us. The Howler spoke of things in these woods not being as they seemed. His words have now rang true. It is now that we ask for your guidance. We seek to end the pointless killings of innocent people at the hands of the wolf, yet the girl we found insists it is not an evil creature. Your teachings do not make us killers without mercy, so please aid Galliban and Aeshinera as they attempt to find out answers to these questions in hopes that we can peacefully put an end to this perceived evil. Grant to Cyfrin the peace and love that you have always given to me. In your name, I am loyally yours."

He then opened his eyes and smiled at Cyfrin. "I hope I did not intrude upon your meditation."

Draydis then closed his eyes again and focused on his sense of smell. He attempted to pick out the smells of the wolf...trying to get a sense for its general location...

The apprentice eyes were fixed upon the background scene. Something changed; still it was unclear if it was for the better or worse. One of the two men released his grip on the child. She followed that man, though not with actual movement, instead he was followed with primarily her eyes. She came to see that the man's behaviour was unexpected. Was he forced to do such a thing to that child? If that is the case he might be in trouble now. One thing is for sure; something strong must be on his conscious.

A breakthrough in the current event happened. A fortunate one, it was, the Commander of the Emerald Guard showed himself into the open and greeted them like a true gentleman. She noticed the chosen one's little charming action and replied it by blowing a kiss to him. After the little gesture she added her greeting to him. "It is charming meeting you here, Draydis. It is like destiny called us together in a far off location. Thus I have to agree with Galliban on this. Divine intervention is wonderful." She ended the line with a curtsy, although it did look a bit awkward in her current outfit.

She was about to ask about the girl in the back, however the Commander already offered this information without delay. The wolf, so it is a wolf for sure. What type of intellectual wolf would be on the prowl? Who put you on yet another quest? Could this be to distract you from the quest to obtain the weapon to defeat the demoness? Perhaps Blayvanna plans all this? Finally the part of the girl became to be clear. The wolf and the girl are related? But they do not know how they are related. I see, still that is no way to treat a girl. That would only make the opposite true. She would completely close up to them.

Grouping with them was one of the possibilities they had open now. Leaving people tied up in a forest alone does not sound very nice. Could it be that the wolf had a positive band with the girl or was it the primary objective of his wandering. Perhaps even a setup by some even higher unseen forces. From the situation as it is now, to little is known and for that abandoning a girl in the forest is cruel.

During the Commander's explanation about how the wolf could know exactly what he was doing she added a comment. "This wolf, like all wolves have a good smell and hearing. Though it does not stop there it can sense your emotions too, it might be so well developed that it could read your mind. Thus if you would be setting a trap you would have to do it without any emotion, without any thought, unspoken and work in a direction were the wind is not in his favour, because if spoken, he would hear it, by smell he would know the locations, by emotion he could feel on what places your emotion changes and by that he could know what to avoid and reading the mind is self-expletory."

As the Chosen one continued his words about another body a few details caught to her. This girl was big before? What kind of girl has the power to change size? If it is true what Cyfrin thinks about the wolf. A person with lycanthropy, maybe she could be a wolf too? If that would be the case she could have escaped anytime. Hmm, all who have gone to undertake a divine quest are here. Is this really just coincidence? Is this really divine intervention? Or.. Could it be that someone wants us all together? Just trying to think about this does not get me far. I think I will go in on the Chosen one's offer.

Before she asked there was another thing on her mind she had to ask the commander first. "Draydis, have you met or did you know the person's body we had encountered? She had curly dark brown hairs and worn a silver dress. She was about average size. I wonder what connection this person has with the other dead that you had encountered. Perhaps there is a relation in there too? Like not just a wolf but an assassin?"

Finally she asked Draydis what was earlier on her mind. "Would you mind if I would talk to her?"

Cyfrin heard Draydis's words, he did not want to hear them, but deep inside he knew this was all real so listen he did.
The words struck a cord inside, Cyfrin believed and had faith in the Mother, yet Draydis's faith went beyond that and that reached deep inside of Cyfrin.

Cyfrin opened his eyes and looked at Draydis, "Your words shame me Draydis, I do not meditate, I am confused and yes, scared. This morning I was simply making my way in the world, now I am faced with fighters and hunters the likes of which I have never met, of a wolf that frightens me to the core, Someone missing from my village who turns up involved in all this".
There was a pause for a flicker and a gentle sigh, "It was for a moment, just too much to comprehend, and I wanted it to go away".

Cyfrin risked a slight smile, "Your words have made me realise I should trust in the Mother, to trust in you". He got to his feet and stood straight before Draydis, "I still feel the fear and confusion inside of me, but with your and the Mothers help, I will control it, and I will not let you down again". With that he gave a small bow, picked up his staff, re-slung it on his back, then picked up the weapon and took a deep breath, "So how can I be of service"?

It made the commander happy to see Aeshinera again. He and her had talked about being with each other for their lives, and her face brought a certain calmness to his emotions. With only his eyes, he conveyed the love that was growing for her.

Dray nodded at Aeshinera's words. "You are correct about it being like a normal wolf. I did my best to mask my scent, to walk so the winds would not betray me, and even to appear lame. Yet the wolf saw through it all. It is like no other creature that I have ever hunted."

She spoke of a silver dress worn by a girl. If they had been in the city, he would not have thought anything strange of it, yet they were in the woods. "A girl was with us earlier. She left on her own and we have not seen her since. I would suspect the wolf found her." He looked back at the girl who was bound on the ground. "So the wolf has killed at least twice that we know of. The girl claimed otherwise."

He nodded at her question of whether Aeshinera should talk to the girl. "Yes, please talk to her. Be careful though. She carries a wand in her skirt that she uses somehow in relation to the wolf. I know not what its purpose is, but it leaves behind a blue glow that allowed me to track her."

He then turned his attention to Cyfrin...

"There is no shame in being afraid...it lets you know you are alive and that you want to survive. If you have no fear of death then it would seem to me that you cherish nothing in life. You are wise to put your faith in the Mother. She will be there when you need Her. Just ask, and She will listen. Have faith in that, my friend."

Cyfrin seemed to be more comfortable with what was going on, and he smiled. "We all have fear Cyfrin. Some rely on their skill with a blade to seek comfort. Some rely on magic. Some rely on faith. Seek what gives you peace and think of that when you are confronted with fear. No matter what though, I am certain the Mother will always be there to listen when you need Her."

He looked around to the others when Cyfrin asked what he could do to help. "How is your sense of smell? The wolf we hunt has a very strong smell like a wet dog. It is near us now, as I have smelled it, but the girl's smell of lillies has masked it somewhat. Perhaps if we both try to seek out the wolf's smell we can determine where it is. Aeshinera will question the girl, so making sure the wolf doesn't come around right now is important."

He then thought for a moment and a smile slowly formed on his face. "Of course, you and I could always turn the tables on the wolf and make it become the prey once again. I doubt it will attack while we are in such great numbers...yet I know it lurks somewhere close. Perhaps if it were just us away from the others, it would make itself visible." He thought for a moment of how the girl reacted when he spoke of slaying the wolf. "Perhaps you were right in it being a were wolf. I know not how to contend with such a creature if we decide to not kill it. Do you suspect we could reason with it?"

Aeshinera nodded to Draydis. "I will do so then." I wonder, what kind of wand that is. Giving of a blue light does not reveal much knowledge about this possession. "I will be careful."

She walked towards the girl that was still with one other guard. Careful and unhurried she went down, placing her lower legs on the floor first, followed by sitting on the lower legs. As she sat down she looked at the man that kept her sustained.

However, once she sat her attention was focused upon the girl. She took her hand while glancing over her to see any injuries that she might have got. The priestess began her small introduction. "Hello there, my name is Aeshinera Férewen. What is your name? Would you like to talk for a moment?" After the questions she waited for her to allow her some time to answer.

Galliban listened to the conversation between Draydis and Aeshinera, but said nothing more. Her companion seemed to be doing a fine enough job of informing Draydis of what their group had seen and heard, though Galliban herself was far more interested in what Draydis had to say.

The girl was larger? That is troubling. Could she be a mage? Perhaps she is even possessed by demons.

Galliban had only ever seen one true possession before, and the girl that was before her now looked nothing like what she had seen. Of course, that one possession that the paladin had seen was a possession of a woman by Blayvanna herself, and the demon had been trying to kill Galliban at the time. Still, she wasn't ready to rule anything out yet.

Draydis's mention of the female in the silver dress who had been with his group before managed to satisfy her curiousity somewhat as to the identity of the poor victim. She would have to ask Draydis if he had known the name of this person later, she thought. For the time being, however, she was too preoccupied with thoughts of the wolf.

Galliban did not object to Aeshinera's volunteering to talk to the girl. With her swords and armor, the paladin thought that she herself might present too much of an intimidating figure.

"If you have no objections," she said to Draydis. "I will go and meditate on this."

Galliban turned and walked over to a tree, not far at all from the rest of the group. She sat down on the ground with her back to it and made herself as comfortable as she could. The young achadhiel relaxed and drew herself into a practiced meditative state, focusing on her own core of energy. It was this way that she often prayed, for she found herself to be more open to her god when her mind was clear.

Great Illuminatus, God of Light, I pray to You now as a servant in need. I thank You for the guidance which You have already bestowed upon me this day. We search for a malevolent beast now, which has taken our attention from other matters. It hunts and kills, and I fear stalks us even now. I have no fear for my own life, for I know that You are with me in both life and death, but I fear for those others who might fall victim to this vicious creature. I pray that You help me find this wolf to put an end to its murderous rampage, and that You also protect us all from its aggression.

Cyfrin nodded at Draydis words, "As I said Sir Draydis, I do have some skill in tracking, smell of a damp dog you say, well it's an added think to try to locate. As for it being a werewolf, stories from my youth seemed to indicate that as the wolf, you couldn't reason with it, and as the person, they either did not know, or refused to admit it".

He was taken aback at Draydis comment they should move away from the group a little, "Well if you think that is the best course of action then perhaps that is what we should do, but the others should be told so they can come to our aid quickly if need be".

Cyfrin crouched down looking at the area, trying to see any tracks, trying to get this 'wet dog' smell, "Meanwhile lets us see of we can get anything of this wolf and where it might be". He glanced back at the girl, "Of course if the girl is the werewolf, your friend is in grave danger, and we will be in the wrong place". With that he continued his attempts at tracking the beast.

Dray nodded at Cyfrin's words. "I agree...we should not split up from the others too much." He looked back at the girl and Aeshinera. "The girl smells very strong of lillies. Her scent all but masks the scent of the werewolf. I also think being near the girl may only interfere with Aeshinera's attempt to get information from her."

He looked to a place in the trees not too far away from the others...still well within sight. "Maybe if we go over there, we will be far enough away from the girl that we can pick up the scent of the wolf and not interfere with the interrogation of the girl."

"K'tan's left foot!" C'aldur cursed as the new group arrived. If it wasn't enough he was trying to deal with the squirming and sobbing girl beneath him, the gods landed two more women in their group!

And I can just bet I know what they are thinking right now!

Much to his surprise they did not accuse him of molesting the girl, but actually listened to what commander Draydis had to say on the matter.

Hoooold it...commander? The scout finished binding the girl and got up from the ground, brushing his hands on his tunic. His eyebrows raised up to his hairline he regarded their guest in a new light.

Commander, eh? Commander of what, I wonder. Oh great, we're getting another dark Adhiel in. K'tan, are you testing me today or is this your sense of humour? We already knew things were wrong in the forest. Why do you insist on twisting it further and further?

A quick check told him all his people were accounted for. Only then did the scout nod his acknowledgement to the new arrivals...and caught the interesting byplay between Draydis and Aeshinera.

Well, have I ever...full of surprises today aren't we, commander Draydis?

It was about time to put in his own voice here: "C'aldur, scout. These are my companions: Sharn, Heydarin and Forinn. This woman is called by Lilliane. Somehow she and him..." He pointed at Cyfrin. "Know each other."

He opted to ignore Cyfrin's breakdown for now. It was hardly the young man's fault that he had stumbled into a radically different forest from what he'd expected. It was hardly anyone's fault save the dark influences that plagued the lands.

I wonder, would that wolfman be a part of the demonic touch?

As if on cue Lilliane began to trash in her bonds. "NO! Don't destroy him, PLEASE don't destroy him!" She begged Draydis again, shooting pleas of help in the direction of Galliban and Aeshinera, eyes filled with tears. When she spotted Glyph'n she gasped and held her silence, eyeing the dark Adhiel with fear.

In response the ladies' guide quickly covered his face with his cowl, strands of white hair escaping despite his swift efforts. He certainly did not miss the fact that somehow the remaining three scouts always had at least one pair of eyes and a weapon trained on him.

Typical. Tolerant Adhiel...Mother's creatures...Tolerant of those that adapt to everything they are!

The one named Sharn scratched behind his ears, eyes never leaving the surroundings. "Is it just me or don't you think it's a little too convenient that we're all meeting old acquaintences?" He pondered to no one in particular. "I mean...here we got Cyfrin -no offense- meeting up with a girl he knew and Draydis over there meeting with a girl he knows! How are we supposed to know they are real? This forest is playing tricks. Am I going to meet my woman next?"

"He's making an understandable point." C'aldur grudgingly admitted. "What do you think, commander Draydis?" There was a slight emphasis on the honorific, yet answers would have to wait as Dray went into a conversation with Cyfrin -who seemed quite out of it. His eyes went up to the brightening sky. False dawn. Soon morning would be upon them and with that a whole new set of diffculties. There was no telling how much time really had passed.

A woodpecker cracked the bark of a tree up ahead. A perfectly normal sound. A safe sound.

Aeshinera had her own task cut out for her: kneeling next to the girl on the ground made the young face look all the more hopeless. More sobs came out of Lilliane's throat now that she had given up fighting the tight knots around her limbs. "Please..." She tried to keep some tone of indignation. "Do you think I am daft? Do you think I did not hear all of you talk? You only want answers so you can KILL him! You can be nice all you want, but I won't tell! You are NOT going to kill him!" The anger in her voice was hard to place. It did not seem directed at Aesh.

"I don't CARE what it is you're all doing here. Just leave us alone! Cyfrin..." She turned her head to the one person she knew. "Cyfrin, please trust me. I will keep him from killing. It's the forest, not him. It's not like him. Please, just let me go and be on your way to wherever you were all going." Lilliane pleaded, her voice clear enough to penetrate Galliban's prayer for guidance.

It was not usual for the paladin to be disturbed by those around her while in prayer, yet here it was: the begging girl's words cut through her concentration as sure as a knife through freshly churned butter. If anything, Galliban's attention was drawn away from her firm assumptions instead of using those focussed thoughts to keep her meditative state.

Cyfrin glanced back at the girl, "Of course if the girl is the werewolf, your friend is in grave danger, and we will be in the wrong place".

An almost hysterical laugh escaped from Lilliane's mouth. "A WEREWOLF? ME? Cyfrin! You've known me for so long!"

The voices continued, reaching Goldentree's ears from the east. It did not sound like anyone was reaching a compromise anytime soon. The rustling in the undergrowth to the west made it hard to focus on what the voices were actually saying.
The growling made it even more difficult...
